| #1nightwalker450Jan 31, 2010 13:22:43 | So with info coming out of DDXP & D&DE I've gathered the following about Muls: Ability Scores: +2 Strength or Wisdom, +2 Constitution Size: Medium Speed: 6 Squares Vision: Normal Languages: Common, Dwarven Skill Bonus: +2 Endurance, +2 Streetwise Tireless: As long as you slept at least 6 hours in the last 72 hours, you gain full benefit from an extended rest. Incredible Toughness: Encounter (No Action): When you start your turn, you may end any ongoing damage or any one dazed, slowed, stunned, or weakened condition currently affecting you. Extra Surge: You have an additional healing surge per day. Dual Heritage: Choose human or dwarf upon creation. You can take feats that have your chosen race as a prerequisite (as well as those specifically for muls), as long as you meet any other requirements. Incredible Toughness, appears on the D&D Encounters character sheet, and had been mentioned at DDXP that muls would have an edge against condition/status affects. Again shows up on the PA/PvP Mul Monk. The Extra surge is assumed, from the DDXP character sheets, and is backed up by the D&D Encounters character sheet. Again shows up on the PA/PvP Mul Monk. Dual Heritage I'm just assuming, they'll be similar to half-elves in, since they have alot of the toughness of dwarves it would save them from rewriting a lot of redundant feats. But there is actually nothing at all backing this up. Dwarven Heritage would also work, to just allow them to take the dwarven feats, but not human feats if the combination were proven to be too much. Sources: Dark Sun Character Sheets D&D Encounters Character Yuka PA/PvP Character Tuzul CriticalHits Twitter RPGNet Spoilers EDIT: Added the description for Dual Heritage... Or whatever it will actually be called. |
| #2GMforPowergamersJan 31, 2010 13:26:27 | Dual Heritage I'm just assuming, they'll be similar to half-elves in. well half orcs can not take human feats... so you may be right you may be wrong... but don't forget Tireless... |
| #3nightwalker450Jan 31, 2010 13:30:44 | That's true that half-orc's didn't get human feats. But the lack of an Orc race to balance the other side made it difficult I'd think. Also (from my opinion) there's more difference between a half-orc and a human, then there would be between a mul and dwarf or human. Dual Heritage on them is by far the most questionable assumption though. I got Tireless in there. :D |
| #4ian.thomsonJan 31, 2010 13:36:50 | Half-Orcs also don't get dual heritage because they are not longer necessarily the result of orc-****. Interpret the last two words as you will. |
| #5melloredFeb 01, 2010 8:18:18 | And dragon born are no longer the result of dragon-****. |
| #6nightwalker450Feb 01, 2010 8:40:10 | So anybody get anything to add about Muls, other than parentage of other races? :D EDIT: Edited original post to clarify the iffy traits. |
| #7Janx_14Feb 01, 2010 11:15:37 | And dragon born are no longer the result of dragon-****. Actually weren't they a ritual in which servants of Bahamut were 'reborn' as Dragonborn? I think your thinking of Half-Dragons. |
| #8thescalesoffateFeb 02, 2010 1:42:16 | Wait, so by that logic, Half-Elves get Dual Heritage because they're the product of elf-****? |
| #9celticmuttFeb 02, 2010 1:58:46 | Wait, so by that logic, Half-Elves get Dual Heritage because they're the product of elf-****? Proof that Tanis Half-elven goes about everything ass backwards! Heh, anyways, I seriously doubt Mul's will get dual heritage. I think that's meant to be a strictly Half-Elf feature. Though in practice it doesn't work out too well for the elven half. |
| #10thescalesoffateFeb 02, 2010 6:59:14 | Wait, now I'm imagining how different Dragonlance would be if Tanis Half-Elven were a Valor Bard... |
| #11melloredFeb 02, 2010 8:42:54 | Dual heritiage would be nasty. Dwaves and humans get alot of good feats, and if they had the option to get +2 Str with that, that could be unbalancing. |
| #12nightwalker450Feb 02, 2010 9:45:34 | The human ones strike me as more unbalancing or rather unfitting then the dwarven ones. For the toughness and hardiness of the muls the dwarven ones work great. It would seem a waste to not use the feats that are available for them, also looking that since this is going into the Campaign book (due to lack of Players Guide this time around), it would save them a ton of space if they could just say take the human and dwarven feats, and here's a couple unique ones on the side. Personally I think they could do without the human ones, especially if they could get the human +1 bonus to all saving throws, on top of whatever their bonus is against conditions and affects. My character I'm building is a Mul Warden, so the saving throws would be ridiculous on him. Which is why I'm not even touching that feat until much later on (playing only every other week, I shouldn't be looking at feat options too often). |
| #13nightwalker450Feb 05, 2010 14:43:41 | This Half-Giant either has a feat, or I've found another ability (albeit somewhat useless) Improvised Weapon Training If you notice his one handed Improvised weapons deal 1d8, while his two-handed improvised deal 1d10. And he's getting a +2 Proficiency bonus with them. Normal is 1d4 for 1 handed, 1d8 for 2 handed, and no Proficiency bonus. This could also be a gladiator bonus, or part of the "Arena" Fighter? EDIT: At first I thought I was looking at the Mul, but this is actually on the Half-Giant not the Mul ![]() |
| #14Lord_VentnorFeb 11, 2010 15:05:11 | And dragon born are no longer the result of dragon-****. You're thinking of 3e, man. Dragonborn are their own dudes now. |
| #15nightwalker450Feb 11, 2010 15:21:27 | Its amazing how, and how quickly a thread derails... |
| #16Janx_14Feb 12, 2010 15:17:06 | And dragon born are no longer the result of dragon-****. Yes, I know they are their own dudes now. I'm just pointing out that dragonborn were NEVER the result of Dragon-****. |
| #17urzafrankFeb 13, 2010 20:47:50 | Any more info on Muls? |
| #18nightwalker450Feb 15, 2010 11:27:27 | I have been searching, but haven't found anything solid to add yet. |
| #19KalaniFeb 15, 2010 23:49:22 | Wait, now I'm imagining how different Dragonlance would be if Tanis Half-Elven were a Valor Bard... Actually, Im more inclined to think he is a Skirmishing Warlord. Im also of the mind to reclassify Caramon as a Brawler Fighter with a few Invigorating powers rather than the Batterager Fighter I pegged him as before. But.... thats a topic for another thread entirely lol |
| #20urzafrankMar 17, 2010 20:01:24 | any thing new guys? |
| #21randomisationMar 23, 2010 9:41:22 | I'm not sure I understand you correctly. What sort information are you looking for? Stats or fluff. I hope I can help - as Mul's are my favorite race! There's loads of fluff from the earlier Darksun Campaign (soon to hit 4e, I believe). In general, they are more like Dwarves, but I don't think they have any bodily hair, at all (so you'll need a Tupee & a Merkin). wiki says: Muls are the sterile, mixed-breed offspring of humans and dwarves in the Dark Sun campaign setting.[7] The term mul is derived from "mule" which are sterile hybrids, and as such the word is meant to be pronounced in the same manner (rhyming with "rule" rather than "dull"). A mul is a powerful crossbreed of a human and dwarf. As a race, muls are unique in that they cannot reproduce; they are infertile for life and so have no family groups or communities that are purely mul. The individual mul, most often born into slavery on command of its parents' owner, is a naturally great warrior, bred for combat. A mul gets what are, perhaps, the best attributes from each of its parents. From his human parent, he receives height and agility. From his dwarven parent, the mul gets incredible strength and endurance. At maturity, a mul stands as much as 6½' tall, weighing 240-300 lbs. Each is fair skinned, though sometimes tending toward a coppery coloration. A mul's eyebrow ridges are pronounced, and the ears are usually pointed toward the back of the head; otherwise, facial features are basically human. Regardless of sex, most muls are naturally bald, but those who aren't usually shave their heads as a mark of racial unity. Since many muls are born into gladiatorial careers, tattoos of decoration and ownership are common. The term "mul" has been unofficially adopted into other campaign settings for rare human-dwarf crossbreeds Hope this helps. If you wants stats, I'd be happy to help out, either finding existing material or creating it! |
| #22nightwalker450Mar 23, 2010 13:22:01 | I'm mostly looking for Dark Sun spoilers, in regards to stats. I think the only piece that is really missing is what the "Some type of bonus to conditions/statuses" is. I keep searching, but I don't think they're likely to (officially) let anymore out at this time, possibly a developer will post some spoiler somewhere. |
| #23urzafrankMar 24, 2010 6:19:02 | I think dual heritage is very likely because as of right now the Mul has no racial power. just look the dwarf has 2nd wind as a minor, humans have an extra at will and every other race in the game has a racial power so if the Mul does not dual heritage is very much not out of line. |
| #24nightwalker450Mar 27, 2010 18:41:32 | So, PAX has some dark sun going on, but it looks like the same as what was being run at DnDExp. But if anyone finds some new insight, point me in that direction. ![]() |
| #25nightwalker450May 31, 2010 22:21:50 | Finally something new! From the DnD Encounters character Yuka Incredible Tougness (No Action / Personal / Encounter) When you start your turn, you may end any ongoing damage or any one dazed, slowed, stunned, or weakened condition currently affecting you. |
| #26nightwalker450Jun 01, 2010 11:05:57 | Also I should mention that the extra healing surge appears on this character sheet again, so I'd count that as confirmed on the extra healing surge. Only uncertain part is if they count as both dwarves and humans for feats, but I'm fairly sure they will. |
| #27_Mithreinmaethor_Jun 01, 2010 19:16:28 | I am not so sure "Incredible Toughness" isnt a Gladiator thing. |
| #28urzafrankJun 01, 2010 21:18:24 | I am not so sure "Incredible Toughness" isnt a Gladiator thing. The mul character does not have the gladiator theme. Also Disrupting Advance was the gladiator theme power on the D&D XP sheets and is repeated on the elf ranger who does have the gladiator theme so i would that is surely not the case |
| #29nightwalker450Jun 02, 2010 12:27:36 | Theme's give attack powers in this case Wasteland Fury, since he is a Wasteland Nomad. As had been mentioned in the DDXP, muls would get an "Edge against condition/status stuff" which this obviously is. |
| #30nightwalker450Jun 02, 2010 14:24:10 | Again Incredible Toughness shows up on the PA/PvP character sheet. And the character is neither Fighter, nor Wasteland Nomad. |
| #31lord_rockJun 05, 2010 12:21:24 | Denning's Dark Sun Novels feature a Mul as a main character. The Prism Pentad series. I'm reading it right now. |
| #32nightwalker450Aug 06, 2010 22:44:35 | Finally found something official on how they will treat their mixed blood. They will choose human or dwarf and then be able to take feats only for the chosen race (and Mul). |
