We got a Runepriest. How about a Rune Adept?

One of my more favorite (flavorwise) Prestige Classes in 3.X was the Runesmith. A heavy armor wearing arcane caster. When I saw the Runepriest, it made me think that an arcane striker variant of that class would be very cool. Since Runepriest is a leader, and uses the divine power source, there's a lot of play room for a "Runesmith" or "Rune Adept" type arcane striker class IMO.

The basic goal would be to have a heavy armor melee/close arcane striker. Probably Str or Con primary, Int or Wis secondary, with the powers borrowing ideas from alchemist/swordmage/warlock. Have chainmail armor proficiency, no shield (it is a striker, not a defender). Not sure if it should be implement or weapon based, but I favor a melee weapon focus similar to the runepriest. It would otherwise too closely resemble the warlock (which is admittedly close, but the hexhammer build doesn't exactly count). The striker feature would probably be some form of weapon enhancement bonus similar to the alchemist, but possibly only limited to your own weapons. Use the rune state mechanic, so it can have some connection with the rune priest, but come up with a few more Runic feats that make them worth taking (I can't justify ever taking any of the current ones, they are just not worth the opportunity cost).

Given that arcane doesn't have a melee striker (as a dedicated class), I'd like to see it. The Runic keyword and feature are a nice addition to the game, and resurrecting something like the Runesmith, or the Eldritch Knight (preferably in heavy armour, or personally it'd feel too similar to the Swordmage and Avenger) with Runic powers would make for a class I'd want to play.

It would be interesting to get a Runesmith BUILD for Artificers or a Runeblade BUILD for Swordmages.

I don't think it warrants an entire new Arcane class.

Except an artificer is a leader, and a swordmage is a defender...there isn't an equivalent striker class to attach the build option too, hence the need for a new base class. Since the runic state mechanic is pretty generic, it could be re-used for a striker class.

Rune-based Elemental Class?

Stone Giants claim to invented the use of magic runes as well.
