I'd like to see Illumians. I think they're cool. But I just wonder, is there really enough call to see illumians make it into 4e? I don't expect them with phb3, but maybe with whatever phb has shadow as a power source since that was one of the big things with illumians.

For that matter what about Hadozee, remember them? Flying ship monkey people from stormwracked. They were freakin cool, but I doubt they have any sort of following being from such an obscure suplement and being flying monkey men.

The biggie for me is the Elan. The Elan and Tieflings are my two favourite races. They just have tons of great elements all woven into one thought out but still mysterious and left open to reinterpretation package.

Other races, hmm... None others I really want appeared in 3e, but instead in earlier editions.

I'd be willing to bet elans will join us in phb3. I'd certainly like that in any case.

I wouldn't mind some Catfolk and Laikas (one of the two example races from the Savage Species web enhancement).

Flying monkeys? Yes! And munchkins and scarecrows and tin men too. Oh, wait we already have Eberonnian tin men.

i really miss the half ogre!!!!

one of my first DND characters,,,,right out of the silver best of dragon!!!

i know goliaths are close, but they don't have the feel the same!!!

i loved having the dirty swarthy one tusked giant of a fighter, that waded in with his hammer and squashed kobolds with impunity!!!

I'm hoping for the Illumians and Elan to return as well. And I'm expecting Goblinoids sooner or later.

Monster or race, transforming foxes from the legends of Japan, China, and Korea would be nice: some possession, change shape, and fox fire.

On catfolk, I think 4e Shifters took some flavor from the 3e Catfolk of Races of the Wild; I don't know how those compare to the Savage Species one.

I wouldn't mind seeing the Illumian and Elan make it into fourth edition, but I'd really like to see the Dromite too.

To be brutally honest, I really hope that we don't get any more "humans only slightly different" i.e. Illumians and Elans. I know a lot of people, strangely, want them, but they are very boring, IMO. I would like to see more monstrous races, and SMALL races. I love small races, they need their due (we have TWO, and that is pathetic!). Hopefully, we can get a feat like Monkey Grip to make small races able to wield bigger weapons.

What I like about the Elan, is that they are weird and different from most other races without simply just looking weird. I like my weird looking races (I have giant sentient fleas in my setting for example) but with unique traits beyond just looking weird. So races like Elan who are different even if they don't look physically different (which actually is part of their difference being able to hide in plain sight) is also great.

I Agree; we have Kalashtar already so I don't see any need for Elan, and Illumians were just plain boring.

Hengeyokai?
In which case, +1 (Well, really +1 either way). Also a vampire PC race of some kind would be nice. One of my favorite 3.5 charries was "the silliest half-vampire ever."
Lets see, doppelganger was in core, catfolk has been mentioned, I guess Nezumi would be kinda sexy too.

I just hope, if the Catfolk do reappear, they keep their old attribute adjustments of DEX and CHA. I can't play a halfling in my group because people keep forgetting they're not f***ing hobbits and I get deluged with quotes and assumptions from those crappy movies.

Daelkyr-Half-blood - With more symbiont mechanics.
Thri-Kreen
Psiforged
Lizardfolk
Troglodyte
Svirfneblin
Dromite
Maenad
Elan
Blue

A generic Far realms touched race to go along with stereotypical Warlock set.

I'm I the only one who wants Raptorans?

I'm sure their flying could be balanced into a glide-fall and bonus to jumps, as well as Racial Paragon Flight.

I'd like Illumians, and have them great as Hybrid-Classers, but I'm not sure how they'd achieve that without pushing to much on the Human and the Half-Elf.

Raptorans
Foulspawn
Vanara
Kenku
Ravaasta (read: Kitsune)
Illumians
Nezumi
Lizardfolk as an NPC race at least
Dromite
Thri-kreen
Troglodytes as an NPC race

I wouldn't be surprised if Ravaasta were an Elemental race, as are Rakshasa. They're supposed to be descendants of Arcanoloth Demons. Then again, Rakshasas are also supposed to be fallen Devas. It provides for interesting backstory a la the Half-Orc.

When all is said and done the only "races" that I would like to see have rules for that are not already out are the ones from Warcraft.

They put just enough spin on all the races used in their 3.5 setting that I think it neat to see them in 4th. They will most likely go away from the Racial Levels that White Wolf use, wear so much fun but you got so many more feats now it should balance out somewhat.

Other than that I am just happen to see what Wizards come out with next.

The idea of a birdlike &/or flying race is good; I just didn't like how they were made to look like flying elves. If they were more birdlike, perhaps merged with a tengu race or went farther in the Native American direction of their flavor text...

If Elan are what I think they are, couldn't they be a template or series of feats instead of a human with a magical resonance mutation? Then they could fit among non-humans, and the concept would be preserved.

Honestly, I agree with Silver_Blaze about avoiding more humans-but-slightly-different (aka Star Trek alien) races, but I think the facets of those races people love can be gifted to new creations.

I'm not listing 3e races I want because I disliked the whole 3e system and avoided it like the plague, so instead, 2e races I want!

I would love official support for Illithids in 4e personally for starters, I've always loved illithids, they're awesome. Neogi would be cool but I'm an odd spelljammer fanatic and I know in reality they'll never officially be playable. Of course the Giff would be fun to see back but it seems I'm the only ones who like them.

Now outside big spelljammer races, Phantons from Savage Coast would be interesting. Playable centaurs would be nice to have. Lizardmen as well. Oh, and the saurials, they'd be awesome to have back, truely awesome one of my favorite rogues of all time was a saurial flyer (and yes its supposed to be spelled with a y)

I could come up with more if i dug out my old stuff but I'm lazy so thats all I have off the top.

My Big 4:

1 - Thri-Kreen (I'm susceptible to its charms )
2 - Half-Giant (tall, big and nice)
3 - Kobold (small, frail, and vicious)
4 - And the 'what a nice surprise!' race (invisible, immaterial and mysterious)

Aside from everything else mentioned (go half-giants!) I would also like to see the following:

Tibbits (the halfling/cat people)
Lythari (natural werewolf elves only seen in two FR novels)
And for the love of all things sacred, better Shifters!

Honestly though, more than anything I would really like to see an update to Savage Species. The book was really good and I think it could add a lot to the game if they redid it.

Umm .. halfling is the uncopyrighted name for a hobbit. :P If Tolkien's books were public domain, they would have been called hobbits. Not do I recall the hobbits of the fellowship being fat.

(Not that I like hobbits or any varitation thereon.)

In general, 4E races seem to succeed when they have strong concepts and are obviously different from everything that has come before in 4E. A few previously published races fit that bill well, in my opinion:

Elans (Expanded Psionics Handbook): While thematically similar to the kalashtar in some ways, they are also very different, and the concept of "starting all over again" is incredibly interesting and allows for some amazing backstories. The flavor tweak suggested in Secrets of Sarlona is another very interesting possibility that I enjoyed.

Thri-Kreen (Expanded Psionics Handbook): They have four arms and big mantis heads. I want to see this one just to see how the four arms are handled, let alone to see the implementation of their weird nomadic culture and short lifespans.

Maenad (Expanded Psionics Handbook): As before, a strong concept and a distinctive appearance make these beings an interesting addition to the 4E race catalog.

Goblins and Orcs (Monster Manual and others): I look forward to the day when all of the races from the 4E Monster Manual are given full racial writeups. (I look even more forward to when the NPC race entries in monster books are PC-quality to save that step later.) The goblin races and orcs have waited patiently for their turn, and deserve it at some point.
The many variations of both published over 3E, though, don't deserve as much attention. Things like the varag (MM4), orog (Races of Faerun), forestkith goblin (MM3), and blue (EPH) would work best as monsters, but could also appear as paragon paths or racial feats for the more established goblin races. Of the "extra" goblin races, I think only the bhukas (Sandstorm) have a strong enough concept to warrant a 4E version.

All of the races from the new Monster Manual 2: Bullywugs, duergar, and kenkus. All of these have beautiful concepts and glaringly inadequate racial traits, and deserve better treatment.

Races I particularly don't think should have 4E versions:

Synad (Complete Psionic): While I like the synad's concept, it is too similar to the kalashtar. Theoretically, some of its abilities could appear as racial feats for the kalashtar, but I don't think it is strong enough to stand on its own.

Warforged Scout (MM3): A racial feat or similar mechanic that confers Small size on a warforged in exchange for some other benefit would be sufficient here. The difference between the standard warforged and the warforged scout is much, much less than a 4E race should have. Unless a dramatic new concept is introduced, there isn't enough to work with here.

ANY variations on standard races that aren't on par with the drow and duergar. This includes the stack of environmental variants like seacliff dwarves and painted elves as well as weirder variations like the ghost elves and svirfneblin. This should go without saying yet bears repeating.
