| #1degausserNov 10, 2008 3:00:40 | Probably done a TON of time before, but what clases do you think should be brought to the forefront in 4th ed? Here are some I came up with? Beserker/Barbarian: A martial Melee Striker, who specialize in large melee weapons, but lack the 'aggro ability' of Fighters. Druid: A divine controller with some minor ability to heal but many spells (such as entangle) that would restrict or slow down enemy movement or effectivness. I an also see them with more healing and buffing powers imagined as leaders, or as strikers with a wildshape ability. Monk: The obvious choice is yet another melee striker. Another option is a sort of melee controller with abilities to trip, stun, and otherwise hinder foes. Bard: Another canadite for two roles, the bard could take up a rather stereotypical role as a party leader, with healing spells and songs to buff his companions, but another option is controller, with songs to debuff enemies and many stunning or bedazzling spells to reduce enemy effectivness. Sorcerer: A striker version of a mage, the sorcerer would have less tricks than a warlock, but more utility spells as well. For those who don't want to sell their souls for power, this might be a good class choice, though it could be unnecisary. Battlemage: A defender who would use spells to protect him/herself from damage, and use enchanting allures to force foes to attack. Admittedly a rather strange roll to go by, but it might be fun to try out. Then again, maybe I've just redescribed th Swordmage. |

These are all going to be in the next Players Handbook II. Monk: The obvious choice is yet another melee striker. Another option is a sort of melee controller with abilities to trip, stun, and otherwise hinder foes. This is still in production and will, in all likelihood, be in the PHIII when there is an exposition on the Ki power source. | #3DuskweaverNov 10, 2008 5:30:54 | Beserker/Barbarian In PHB2, early(ish) next year. But he's a primal, not martial, class. There is a playtest article somewhere showcasing one of the two possible builds (Str/Con-based, the other being Str/Cha-based). Druid Again, she's in PHB2. And, again, she's a primal class. Current speculation is that she's a controller and has lost most or all of her wildshaping to the (confirmed to exist, though we know nothing beyond the name) warden class. Monk Won't be seen for ages. PHB3 at the earliest, and we don't (AFAIK) know when that's even due. Bard Confirmed as an arcane leader. In PHB2. DDI subscribers have access to a preview of the class. Sorcerer Confirmed as an arcane controller. Yes, she fills the same slot as the wizard, but she does it differently. Exactly how differently remains to be seen. Oh, and she's in PHB2 as well. Battlemage Actually, I'd like to see a heavy-armour-wearing arcane class (which is what the term 'battlemage' makes me think of, probably due to playing too much of The Elder Scrolls series). There's no sign of such a thing ever appearing, though. |

For those who don't want to sell their souls for power, this might be a good class choice, though it could be unnecisary. Actually, I may be the only one, but I do not want to see those two classes appear, ever again. Sorcerer/Wizards mix ups in 3.5 have left me to despise the class as a weaker version of a wizard. In any case, if he is the striker version of a wizards, then he should have less utility and more attack not vice versa. Battlemage just reminds me of Spellsword/Swordspell/Battlecaster/Swordmage variants. I strongly dislike a pure run of the mill hybrids such as those. In 4e, I think that they would work a little better than in 3.5 so I am willing to give them a try. Personally, I think that Swordmage is already enough and the matter should not be pressed for more clones of that. In any case, a Battlemage sounds like a striker rather than a careful enchanter of allures. As in R. A. Salvatore books, a Battlemage is a wizard that specializes in extreme damage while being properly equipped for damage. Just seems like a clone of some other idea, oh yeah the sorcerer. Well, I would really like to see the others and most are coming through in the PH2. I hope. Yeg |
| #6Swordsman1612Nov 10, 2008 9:03:29 | What class do I want? A martial Controller. Don't worry, I won't hold my breath for it. |
| #7Cpt_MichaNov 10, 2008 9:11:15 | Bard, -player's Handbook II and looks quite lovely. Arcane Leader Barbarian- Phb II and looks like it is shaping up rather nicely. Primal Striker Sorcerer, PHBII Arcane Controller. And from what I remember about Races and Classes, sound's like a fun class. Soulborn, probably not until PHBIII at the soonest, and will be Ki instead of Incarnum.... and probably just turned into something lame like Samurai "aznzzzz arezz differentzzz cauze tehy r aznz!" probably be the logic behind it as well. Divine Striker... Why? Well why the bloody heck not? It'd be fun! More likely? Divine Controller. Psion (read enchanter ate his face) probably PHBIII at the soonest, most likely a Controller or Leader. Psychic Warrior, Defender duh. PHBIII at the soonest. Necromancer, Controller or Leader (leaning on controller with leader like tendencies) PHBIII at the soonest. Shadow Powersource Illusionist, whichever role the Necromancer doesn't fill. Shadow Powersource PhbIII or IV at the soonest. |
| #8sallaNov 10, 2008 9:25:43 | The psionic classes and the artificer, and a martial Barbarian. (I'd rather NOT see the druid and bard.) |
| #9arderkragNov 10, 2008 10:13:58 | Probably done a TON of time before, but what clases do you think should be brought to the forefront in 4th ed? Here are some I came up with? Both of these are coming out. The only thing I'd really like to see is a mounted PP such as cavalier. |
| #10ignizNov 10, 2008 10:14:34 | Bladesummoner - he summons swords, lots of them: they attack people Fluff pact Warlock - Defeating you - with the power of RP Sword pact Warlock - Using swords, via a pact and warlockery! Slayer - Divine Striker, uses whips, daggers and possibly the Dwarven Urgosh Sublime Chord - Song powered Controller Shadow Dancer - He summons Shadows, he's a Dancer, wtfbbq Also, Anyone who can use a Giant Shuriken. |
| #11williamhm75Nov 10, 2008 11:13:26 | Psion, Ive always loved psionics. Necromancer and illusinist would be cool as well. |
| #12doctorhookNov 11, 2008 19:28:04 | Empath, the spoiled Psionic Leader. (2010 FTW!)EDIT: Added link. |
| #13merrikcaleNov 11, 2008 21:18:52 | I would like to see a swashbuckler who is a martial controller, that is using speed to engage several opponents at a time, like Errol Flynn used to in those old robin hood movies |
| #14t1ck_t0ckNov 12, 2008 21:41:35 | Necromancer |
| #15bjornfellhandedNov 13, 2008 1:54:31 | A Gunslinger and Tinkerer/Engineer. I have always love settings that put science against magic since some crazy things can come of it. I will admit there have been some stupid things come out of that clash(books, movies, etc.) but when done right it just fun. |
| #16Luis_CarlosNov 13, 2008 9:53:58 | I would like the return of archivist (from tome of horror), binder (tome of magic), the battlemage (complete arcane), spellthief (complete adventure), totemist (magic of incarnum), the assasin (shadow striker), hexblade (shadow defender), the knight (from PH 2, it would be perfect for Dragonlance player handbook), a dragon class (shaman dragon from PH 2 + dragon fire adept from dragon magic) and the swashbuckler (complete warrior). I´m sure we will see the return of necromancer. |
| #17sally_jonesNov 15, 2008 12:54:55 | i've given it a lot of thought. i want a duelist swashbuckler type. i dont think there is enough room in this system for a base class, because a rouge w/ rapier prof fits the bill. so i am really hoping for it to come as a pp. i could see a power like action feint: when you use an action point, the target of the attack gained grants CA. something along that line. |
| #18KoboldAvengerNov 15, 2008 14:18:40 | I always wanted to see a Technomancer or Technologist type class, I've thought there should be a Technology power source, but it's sort of a hard one to fill beyond controller. And then there's the fact that something like a gunslinger, is simply a ranger with guns. |
| #19khiftNov 16, 2008 5:51:15 | Soulborn -- Ki Defender. Templar -- Divine Striker. What do I not want to see? Samurai and Ninja. Turns out, we've already got 'em. Please, for the love of god, do not reprint them because they're AZZZNNN. |
| #20sigil_beguilerNov 16, 2008 6:13:01 | Hmm... Only major thing I want to see right now would be Psionic classes. Perhaps Martial classes based in a later-date, ie; firearms/explosives. I would like to see multiclass-only Power Sources. Lets see Mutations, Hedge-Magic, Minor Psionics, etc. |
| #21the_badger_02Nov 16, 2008 18:24:04 | On the Psionics front, because I always was a fan of that, the Soulknife to come back, hopefully with a bit of Nomad to make it a melee Feylock of sorts. Popping around everywhere just making havoc with the blade. Going into Power Sources, most of my hopes just have to do with what the stat focus that they seem to have is. I'm hoping that Primal winds up being Cha focused, making it about dealing with spirits. This opens up Con to be the basis for Elemental, which is not to say that I think that every Power Source needs its own stat focus, but I just think it would feel better. I'm not sure why, but I realized that Con just makes sense to me as being the basis for Elemental. |
| #22ProinNov 17, 2008 4:06:02 | On the Psionics front, because I always was a fan of that, the Soulknife to come back, hopefully with a bit of Nomad to make it a melee Feylock of sorts. Popping around everywhere just making havoc with the blade. that's what I've got now. Eladrin feylock/swordmage with a longsword. I only want ninja or samurai if they're really different from rogues, rangers, fighters and paladins. I wonder if one of the key features of the ki and psionic power sources is that they can enchant themselves as implements and weapons. Because that would be awesome and preserve the low item dependence that characterized them in previous editions. |
| #23MockNov 19, 2008 7:20:12 | i've given it a lot of thought. i want a duelist swashbuckler type. i dont think there is enough room in this system for a base class, because a rouge w/ rapier prof fits the bill. so i am really hoping for it to come as a pp. Martial Power has a Rogue PP called "Rakish Swashbuckler." |
| #24zsigNov 19, 2008 9:37:48 | From the PHB II, I'm quite impatient to see the full writeup of the Bard, and then the Shaman. Also, I'm a bit curious about the Druid. All the rest I don't give a damn. From stuff beyond PHB II, I want to see the Psionics (specially the Shaper). They were too exotic on past incarnations of the game to be just like everything else now. I hope they come up with something cool and different to represent them. |
| #25dio1632Nov 19, 2008 10:01:06 | What class do I want? A martial Controller. http://forums.gleemax.com/showpost.php?p=17247371&postcount=183 We're hard at work on it! See this message, the ones preceding it, and the ones following it! If you have more ideas (that fit in with this vision) for powers and paragon paths, then please take part! |
| #26eroseninNov 19, 2008 12:13:50 | hello i found a tread for shinobi class based on naruto manga but it was for previous versions, is it possible that we can see a new version of that ????? it will be very nice may be a completely new game? any idea? |
| #27Darkwolf_BloodsbaneNov 19, 2008 12:17:03 | Duskblade. Arcane Striker would work. Incarnate. |
| #28doctorhookNov 19, 2008 15:00:50 | Duskblade. Interesting idea... One is tempted to say, "Just play a Swordmage!" but Duskblades were distinct from that. I think this idea is ripe from homebrewing; port a Swordmage variant over to the Striker role, and call it a Defender. It would still be a fair bit of work, mind you, but OTOH, a lot of it has already been done for you. |
| #29gloreindlNov 19, 2008 16:37:42 | Not just Necromancer, but all the old Magic School Arcane choices. Also a Martial class that is noble but not a Warlord, maybe a Cavalier, and make it Martial Defender/Controller. |
