| #1Guest1790093391Aug 25, 2014 20:18:35 | I cannot find this topic anywhere in these forums. If this is already here somewhere, feel free to move it there. I'm trying to start this so we can all discuss what we'd like to see added to the new 5th Edition. So I'll start.
One of the things that I feel was one of the best aspects of 2nd Edition, was that there was LESS rulebooks, and MORE campaign settings. I would LOVE WoTC to return to this. Eventhough I loved 3.0/3.5, all those books made the rules overwhelming ...... at least to me. Yes all those books added an insane amount of flavor, but at times, it was just TOO MUCH!!! I do not think we need that again. Considering that 5th Edition seems to want to take us back to that time when the game was played with imagination instead of moving minis on a grid like chess, I ask WoTC to continue to keep it simple.
Don't get me wrong, I did enjoy the combat rules for 3.0/3.5, but as I said, it became too complicated at times, and myself and my groups spent alot of time flipping pages looking for that modifier explanation, instead of rolling dice.
With all that said, I want to state that I think WoTC should only come out with a few "rules/add-on" books. Examples of these books are:
Deities and Demigods/Legends & Lore (I would like this to include demi-human pantheons too) Tome of Magic (I believe you can never have too many spells .... and some sweet new magic items) Oriental Adventures (just for the selfish reason of updating my favorite character, a Samurai, to 5E) Psionics Handbook (gotta have that mental option) and of course, at least MM2, and Fiend Folio (chances are these 2 books are inevitable)
With just these few books, I think that leaves much room for updating all those amazing campaign settings from way back when:
Forgotten Realms (this is another given, but this time, I feel they should not just update Faerun .... but also FINALLY give some much needed updates to Kara-Tur, Al-Qadim, and Maztica) <-- That's why I asked for Oriental Adventures Greyhawk (there wasn't much for 3.0/3.5, and I do not believe they touched Greyhawk in 4E ... it's due) Dragonlance (another fan favorite that had nice support during 3.5, but nothing for 4E ... it's due also) Planescape (Manual of the Planes style) Spelljammer (had more fans than WoTC thought)
Maybe even update some modules. I wasn't that much into the Ravenloft Campaign Setting, (I have the 2E black box, ran it a few times, but was never too comfortable in it) I know some of you would love an update to the campaign setting, but I would love to see a 5E update to I6, the original Raveloft module. I6 is one of those modules I feel should be updated for EVERY edition of D&D. It is/was, that good. Of course you can't forget places like Undermountain, and the ruins beneath Castle Greyhawk.
And last but not least ..... we need maps. Lots of big, beautiul, acurate, maps! Maps for everything! I know some of you wnat to see a new campaign, and I hope we do also. But if not, it's time to bring back the classics for a new edition!!
What do you think? |

| #3khaalisAug 26, 2014 3:10:50 | While I wouldn't mind seeing settings, which WotC has already said will be a focus, I'd like to see a set of Modular add-on books such as:
* Psionics Handbook: a modular system that adds psionic races, psionic classes, psionic backgrounds, etc. to the game as a set of Optional Rules for general D&D and the required systems for settings that support Psionics like Dark Sun and Eberron.
* Tome of Magic: a collection of magic related material from new spells and items, but also new modular Magic Systems that allow for the creation of non-vancian settings (such as those explored in the 3X Tome of Magic and the Incarnum book).
* Subclass Expansion: I would like to see additional subclasses for each class to roaden out the possible archetypes.
* New Classes: I'd like to see new classes ported into 5E. There are plenty to choose from between 3E & 4E (such as the Warlord which is a very popular or the Shaman archtype).
Some of these could easily be mixed into various books. For instance a "Book of the Devout" could provide expanded sub-classes for Clerics, Druids, and Paladins; new faith based backgrounds; new classes that utilize new systems like a true Totemist (Incarnum), Shaman (4E Spirit style); an Optional Faith Point system that allows the faithful to access boons from their patron; new spells for faith classes; Optional alternate uses for Channel Divinity; Expanded Domain choices; etc. etc.
Obviously I don't mind Splat books, but I don't want to see the huge proliferation we've seen in the past. I'd prefer to see them more thought out, more focused to a theme and if necessary chunkier in a single release than being broken out into say Divine_Splat_Book I, II, III, etc.
In fact if its not something WotC does, I hope some other 3rd Party publishers (with some form of quality control from a WotC license) jumps in to do it. |
| #4SalvatoreOlmiAug 26, 2014 5:58:18 | Tons of Solo adventure modules and eventually gamebooks based on. |
| #5gmanjkdAug 26, 2014 10:10:48 | While I understand that a new Rules book will always outsell a Champaign Setting or module i can dream and hope that WoTC does produce many of the old Campaign Settings and tons of Modules. My concern is that WoTC being a business will have to take the Rules splat book approach to be successful. The PHB will always outsell the DMG or MM. In retrospect, my favorite edition was 2nd, not because is was the best or some other nonsense but because i spent the most time playing 2nd and 2nd had a tremendous amount of support with tons of worlds. Dark Sun, Spelljammer, (Wotc please bring back Spelljammer) planescape, Ravenloft, Kara-Tur, Forgotten Realms, and many more. Each had several box sets and tons of modules along side fluff sourcbooks. So long story short I agree with you. |
| #6MelwickAug 29, 2014 16:54:35 | I would love for them to write a 5th edition version of the Manual of the Planes. |
| #7AzrianAug 30, 2014 20:33:57 | Dark Sun, Spell Jammer, Plane Scape, Ravenloft. But mainly Dark Sun.
oh yea and Eberron. |
| #8VincentJAug 31, 2014 17:11:25 | Greyhawk, for sure, and a revist to classic modules like Temple of Elemental Evil, Keep On The Borderlands, and Slave Pits of the Undercity. |
| #9IshornSep 01, 2014 7:55:54 | I 2nd Star Frontiers. |
| #106nfinnSep 01, 2014 9:03:22 | The books i wish to see are in order from most wanted to least.
Forgotten campaign setting Psionics handbook Libris mortis book of vile darkness exalted deeds monster manual 2
Other than that I wish for random books of goodness show up has well. Anything like "the compleat Adruin" series, Lords of Darkness, and shining south. In other words basically any sources that increase the depth of the campiagn. |
| #11caridhorSep 02, 2014 0:48:49 | I really want them to produce a book that screams out to me. 4th ed did that with "open grave" a book to this day I consider one of the best in gaming. So far..the starter and PHB are just dull. Maybe Open Grave for 5th?? |
| #12mattdmSep 03, 2014 18:10:07 | Okay, so, having read through the Player's Handbook, and played a little bit, I'm already kind of wishing for more class options — new martial class archetypes, new cleric domains and druidic circles, more monkish orders and paladins' oaths, and so on. And more feats and spells. So, basically, I'd like to see:
Each of these could also have a handful of new backgrounds. And I'm not really picky about the division of which class goes where (including being completely aware that divine/arcane isn't really a division in 5E, at least not in the basic and PH rules). It'd be kind of nice to keep it to three books, not sprawling out to Complete Mage, Complete Champion, Complete Scoundrel, Complete Adventurer — and additionally, it's nice if someone who really only plays magic users or only plays fighter-types to primary find what they need in a single book.
As a DM, some of my favorite books were the environments series, so that's my next wish:
These would be primarily the DM material of the 3.5e books, but could also include backgrounds and new racial subtypes.
Alternately, I'd be perfectly happy with a Player's Handbook II, but one containing no new races or classes, just new subtypes and class paths, and then new backgrounds, feats, gear, and spells.

| #13TimtankSep 03, 2014 20:45:16 | Their is alot I wanna see in the new Dnd, and so much that I hope will be released, and I will list them in order of what I think is most important.
Book of the Multiverse: I think that it is very important that a 5th edition version of the manual of the planes is released. I think it would be best to start with a updated manual of the planes mostly because many DnD players already have the historical know how required to run their favorite settings for the time being, and those who don't could easily gather information on some Iconic and fun settings by searching the net.
Offical Settings Books: I think its rather clear that Forgotten Realms, Grayhawk, and Dragonlance will find its way into 5th edition, because their given a bit of detail (More like a Shout out) near the end of the PHB. Although I would like to see alot of settings books coming out, and fast. I think they must remember to add: Dark Sun, Planescape, Ravenloft, Eberron, and Nentir Vale. Nentir Vale is a must have because it would help those who really did like 4th adjust and grow more fond of 5th edition, and feel less like their favorite edition is the hated child of Uncle **** that mommy wishes she aboarded...
Epic & Beyond Handbook: The edition of Epic levels is a must, the ability to max out at least Lvl 30 with additions to each of the 12 classes progression lines up to level 30. Maybe if they choose to make it past level 30 could simply stop gaining new abilities beyond 30th level. This should bring in optional epic tier spells and a Prestige system. I even have what I think would be a great idea for a Prestige system. Their could be a seperate level sett for Prestige class growth, and it could be called something like "Paragon Levels" witch would be equal to half the character level. Each Paragon class would have up to five levels, with each level bringing in a different ability, with the 5th being its very best. Their could be three different types of Paragon classes: Themes, Prestige classes, and Destinies. Themes working like the 4th editon themes given to use in the character builder, allowing the inclusion of traits like: Spellscars, Warebeast, Vampirism, Gladiators, and Dragon Marked, and they should have no character level based pre-recs. The Prestige Class should have character level restrictions set to 10th level and could include things like: Archmage, Pit fighter, Rune Priest, Battle Mage, and Dreadnought. Then the Destinies with character level restictions of 20th and up could include: Demigod, Draconic Soul, Legendary Sovereign, Avatar of *Insert Domain Here*, God Slayer and Arch Lich. These levels can be saved up and a person can only have one prestige class and one Destiny, although allow any number of Themes so long as levels are open and the pre-recs are accounted for. I think it would be a fun way to introduce a system that would give players more choice and chances to build more unique characters.
Psionic Handbook: Should be released, its a must have I think, may people have a love hate relationship with the psionics but their awsome all the same. I think the new Psionic class and subclasses should be released here with a big number of new psionic like feats, items, and maybe a Psionic heavy adventure at the end of the book. The release of the Psionic as a unique class is a must, subclasses, and Paragon classes like: Ardent(Paladin Subclass), Battlemind(Fighter Subclass) Psionic Monk(Monk Subclass), Psyblade(Psionic Subclass) Oracle (Psionic Subclass) Inquistor(Psionic Subclass), Mind Mage (Paragon Class) Uncarnate (Paragon Class) Dreamwalker (Paragon Class).

| #14TimtankSep 03, 2014 21:02:28 | Complete Arcane: A book with Lots of new spells for the Wizard, Warlock, Bard, and Sorcerer. It should come with LOTS of NEW spells, Magic Items, Feats, and Subclasses for all of these classes. In this book I would also love to see the Artificier released as a new Class option. Also provide a small adventure with Arcane enemies as the focus.
Complete Divine: I would want a book thats all about The Paladin, Cleric, and Druid, with new Spells, Magic Items, Lots of Feats, and Subclasses for each class. In this book I think it would be a great idea to release the Shaman Divine class. I would like to see a adventure about a upcoming crusade against evil forces mostly focused on divine based classes.
Complete Worrior: A book all about the Fighter, Monk, Barbarian, Rogue, and Ranger with new Spells and maneuvers, LOTS OF FEATS, like a poop load! Some new subclasses (Their should definitly be at least one subclass that offers the use of some Maneuvers in each Martial class.) The release of lots of new Martial weapons and option weapon reboots that gives each weapon a unique property to make them better compitition for the more powerful spell casters. The release of the Warlord Class as a Maneuver heavy, team tactics, martial temp hitpoints giving class.
Adventures: I would like to see Wizards of the Coast slaming use with paper back adventure and campaigns to run as often as they can, so that they can keep attention on them and their work. If they were to approach things like what I have above i'm sure I and many others would be very happy campers. |

| #20TrueKobayashiSep 05, 2014 1:58:25 | Yes the advantage/disadvantage rule is awesome, my players like it a lot. I hope 5th edition is gonna stick around for a while as I'd like to see more campaigns like Tyranny of Dragons, one campaign for each setting and a setting/player's guide for each setting/campaign. |
| #21FaerieGodfatherSep 05, 2014 7:32:09 | You know, there's no sense denying that I'm going to buy all the class books when they come out-- but this is the first edition of WotC D&D that I feel is complete out of the box, that I don't need more class options for-- I can play almost the exact character I want to play, without house rules, starting at level 2. (Bard 1/Wizard 1, and everything else is gravy.) But yeah, there's a lot of stuff I'd like to see make a comeback; my big wishlist right now is Draconic feats, fantasy martial arts for non-Monks, modern/future D&D setting, and Gamma World. Oh, and as always, Star*Drive.
I'd like to see another Unearthed Arcana.
My favorite campaign setting is Spelljammer, and I'd love to see a modern take on it-- a cross between the serious treatment it received in Shadow of the Spider-Moon, while keeping some of the more exotic features like Giff and Xixchil. A full Spelljammer with Wildspace and Crystal Spheres and the Phlogiston, but with the other campaign settings being optional, and the campaign setting itself details multiple unique and original Spheres.
I'd like to see race books make a comeback. Always galled me, even back in AD&D, that you picked your race and you picked your class-- and then your race was done. The more levels you gain in your class, the more important your class becomes relative to your race and your background. I'd like to see a book that corrects this, that gives each race more options for developing in its own unique fashion and presents a handful of new races for play. Something like a Complete Book of Humanoids crossed with a Savage Species crossed with Paizo's Advanced Race Guide. Bring back race-as-class, or unique racial classes. Give me racial feats, and racial backgrounds, and all the fixings. |
| #22Arawn76Sep 05, 2014 9:18:26 | ...Birthright |
| #23gmanjkdSep 05, 2014 18:27:09 | I would like to second TrueKobayashi. I would be very excited to see several campaign settings DS, Spelljammer, Planescape, Kara-Tur, each with a Guide or box set and a 2 to 3 volume campaign takeing characters from level1 to 20. It would provide enough info to trully ground a new group in a setting but still be short enough that DMs could tour a new world each year if they felt so inclined. |
| #24Luis_CarlosSep 06, 2014 13:08:21 | Classes: hexblade, knight, crusader, samurai, ninja, sohei, wu jen, gladiator, psionic ardent, shaman, sha'ir, avenger(=inquisitor/witch hunter)..
Parangon racial classes, racial classes and template classes
Templates to add arms to nagas.
The return of "Tome of Magic: Pact, Blood and Truename" and "Tome of Battle: book of nine swords".
Savage Species, and dragons PCs. |

| #26Darth_SephirothSep 07, 2014 19:40:56 | Might be interesting to have a book with a compilation of various other races and classes that are commonly used, possibly with a few setting specific chapters, basically a supplemental players "guide." Tieflings annoy me without Aasimar to balance them out amongst other things.
Basic Sourcebooks for divergant setting types that don't entirely fit the normal rule archetypes, but fit as common setting variants.
A pirates/renassance one for the early gunpowder eras where bows and muskets are around with black powder and heavier armor isn't as common. Things reminiscent of the Assassins Creed, Pirates fo the Carribean, and similar rather than the more Arthurian/Tolkien settings.
Oriental Adventures would be fun as well, possibly also a Stone/Bronze Age type.
Setting books would be interesting, hit several of the older ones from various points, possibly even give a second chance to some of the ones that were released, but never really got a good shot such as Ghostwalk alongside other favorites like Forgotten Realms, Dark Sun, Spelljammer, Ravenloft, Dragon Lance, and such.
With the increased cost in books by cover price (though most places online seem to be selling the PHB for $30...) there needs to be a bit more value for the price. For $50, it would work to have a boxed set with the sourcebook that includes an adventure, a poster map, and possibly a handfull of setting specific minis similar to the current minis starter that are tied into the adventure...or even something like the pawns that Pathfinder has, making it easier there for DMs...
As a linked thing, more additions to the Adventure System games would also be a great thing, the games are still great fun, and for DMs, the minis and tiles included are a godsend. |
| #27Ath-kethinSep 08, 2014 8:01:13 | I would like to see spaces for Ecology and Habitat/Society in monster entries, the way 2nd edition listed them. It made reading the monster books more enjoyable, and made inspiration just leak out of the books and puddle on the ground below.
On a related tangent: I want to see the books use a printing font small enough to actually allow more information to be put on the page, and not the crappy ever-escalating font size that, compounded with decreasing page counts, left late 3e era books so lacking in content.
|
| #28FaerieGodfatherSep 09, 2014 7:00:34 |
|
| #29VenserXSep 09, 2014 11:08:26 | I would like to see splat books that add options for ALL core classes, similar to Paizo's Advanced Player's Guide, instead of being divided (like Complete Arcane, Complete Warrior, etc). New class archetypes, new tools, new spells, new magic items, variants to core class abilities (that are not archetypes) and things of that nature. I think 5e is built to accomodate that well. I wouldn't object to new classes (like updated Oriental Adventures classes....whether they are new classes, archetypes of existing core, or variants of the core classes).
New systems, such as psionics, should have their own book and be useful for whatever classes they introduce AND for the existing classes as well (psionic archetypes for the core classes, variant core abilities, etc) in more than just a passing fashion. Add one, maybe two base psionic classes, the rest being options for existing classes as well as the new ones.
I would very much like to see some campaign settings get some love. I look forward to the inevitable Forgotten Realms setting, but my true desire is for Kara Tur to be fully revisited, updated classes et al. I never cared much for the 3e Rokugan setting (it always struck me as bizarre to go with that when Kara Tur was plenty ripe for updating). |

| (Reply to #30)Ath-kethin | ...Within reason. I have no wish to return to the 1e massive-monolithic-blocks-of-black-text-on-plain-white-paper look, either. |
| #32gmanjkdSep 09, 2014 20:09:47 | I would be perfectly fine with returning to Paper back (card stock in some cases) covers with great cover art, black and white interior, slightly smaller print size, and great content. Many of the books of 2nd ed (Ship of Horror, feast of goblyns) were between 48 and 96 pages. Hell even the Dark Sun campaign box was 2, 96 page paperback books with maps. I dont know if its true but i would think that paperback is cheaper to print than hardback books and black and white interior would be cheaper than color. WoTC production costs would be lower, hopefully the price of books/box sets would be cheaper as a result. We get great content in a larger variety, WoTC makes an equal or higher profit.....win win. |

| #34paulstraitSep 19, 2014 18:26:56 | I guess if we are talking products, I'd like to see a post-sundering forgotten realms campaign setting. I'd like to see accessaries dealing parts of the world that are rules/mechanics light, like much of the realms support during the 90s. I'd like to see modules that are not designed for organized play first and home games second if at all.
And Birthright, that would be awesome. |

| #38Dunther_the_GreatSep 19, 2014 23:56:26 | I want rules and content for dragon PCs, I'll be happy to take other content as well that they produce, just less picky about that.
I also would like to see many more rules modules and tweaks. |
| #39AldothSep 23, 2014 17:45:25 | Am I the only one that wants to see monster cards.
I would love a card that contains the key stats on the front and the key attacks on the back. |
| #40GreenKnightSep 23, 2014 23:05:01 | RAVENLOFTGive me my little Demiplane of Dread which planar travelers know nothing about and I'll be extremely happy. And for the love of God, can Ravenloft please have Lord Soth back? Beyond that:
1) Forgotten Realms: I really hope the 5E Realms discards all the bad ideas of the 4E Realms and brings it closer to the 3E Realms, which I loved. The only 4E change I'd like to see them keep is Torm as a Greater God. That one was a long time in coming, and I hope that stays. If Tyr returns, that's great. But he can remain a lesser god who serves Torm, kind of how Jergal now serves Kelemvor. 2) Birthright: It's a combination of Highlander and Game of Thrones. What's not to like? And with the popularity of Game of Thrones, this seems like the perfect time to bring it back. 3) Planescape: I want my donut shaped city back in business. 4) Dark Sun: Another old favorite which I'd really like to see again. |
| #41BrianCritchleyOct 02, 2014 4:07:57 | I'll second the call for a return to a focus on campaign settings. As much as I enjoyed 3rd edition, it definatly suffered from rules bloat towards the end |
| #42BrianCritchleyOct 02, 2014 4:08:09 | I'll second the call for a return to a focus on campaign settings. As much as I enjoyed 3rd edition, it definatly suffered from rules bloat towards the end |
| #43vertaelinOct 02, 2014 22:35:54 | How about any form of online character creation? The fourth edition character creator was fun, albeit a bit buggy at times for some, but a quick and easy way for my players and I to make a character and go within minutes.
Also, why were the three main books spread out so far? How am I as a DM supposed to run any home spun campaign without the DMG? And then pushing back the DMG another month just kind of kicks us in the stomach.
On a side note, there are quite a few components of the PHB that are a direct link to the Forgotten Realms. Though there is no outright saying so, nor is there the emphasis on the Gods and Goddess of the realms. I have yet to see any release information for a Forgotten Realms 5E book as of yet. Have I just not seen it?

| #45ASilva91084Oct 03, 2014 5:08:23 | Draconomicon.
Especially since 5e has gone back to Metallic Dragons being good aligned when 4e ruined them. |
| #46ChakrumOct 04, 2014 17:58:50 | What I don't want is tons of rules bloat. What I do want is lots of adventure and campaign support. Modules, Campaign Arcs, continued mini support. While I am wishing, I would truly love to see a modern cartoon of D&D again on something like cartoon network. I feel the time is ripe for something like that and it would help solidify D&D into the new generation of players like it did for me back in the 80's when they released that cartoon series. If you want a new generation of players to join, you have to meet them where they are, and kids are still watching cartoons to this day. |
| #47MaelphaxerazzOct 04, 2014 20:23:53 | From the looks of it, I am going to be the only one who feels this way, but here we go:
I want more rules addons. MORE. I would love to see a variant skill system, even multiple variant skill systems, as the current one is too basic for me. I would love to see more feats, bringing back prestige classes, new classes (all sorts), and additional subsystems for mass battles, siege warfare, stronghold building, city management, gardening, expanded social challenge rules, alternative magic systems, alternative combat systems, expanded combat maneuvers for everyone, unique NPC followers, rules for weather effects and natural dangers, more traps, more creative traps, vehicles, ships, vehicle & ship combat, running a business, Spelljammers, alternate cosmologies and planes with their own special rules, alternative class features, mining, a dungeon mapping puzzle game, tables, generators for new gods, planes, monsters, magic items, NPCs, encounters, and damn near everything else. If Wizards cannot do it, then they should release a license good enough for the third party publishers to do it for them. Even so, I want to see Wizards of the Coast lead the way, by printing rules.
There is no such thing as "too many rules" for me, and I have never felt that any edition was "bloated", even the edition that had 3rd party products up the wazoo. Any rule that I encounter will either serve my game somehow, or be ignored, and thus not do any harm. A rule that is good as written is added to the game, and a rule that isn't good as written might be a source of ideas.
Campaign settings are fine, but for my group they are only slightly useful, because we prefer to play in our own campaign world. What campaign books have always been for us, is sources of new rules. We loved Eberron, for example, but did not play in it: we took the dragonmarks, the planar conjuctions, the new monsters and the classes, and we pilfered them to expand our own campaign.
While I understand that some portions of the community love simplicity, and that's why 5e turned out the way it is, the only way for Wizards of the Coast to provide for the varied desires of different groups is to print rules modules that support their playstyle. "Rules bloat" cannot hurt you, because you always have the basic rules and will never be forced to play with any module in particular. I hope Wizards will see this, and not be too afraid of "bloat" to make good, deep rules. |
| #48rderekpOct 07, 2014 11:30:38 | Dark Sun was a great world. As were the non-Western parts of the Forgotten Realms.
Ravenloft + Masque of the Red Death.
|
| #49ClinthulhuOct 13, 2014 9:38:31 | Anything other than bombarding us with module after module... Adventures are great but there are those of us who just want resource books... What ever happened to the Dungeon Builders Guide? Or just a book of plug and play towns and cities with generic NPC's and stuff. Those things are great resources for DM's to have, especially those who build their own worlds or don't run from modules.
Also not everything has to be an expensive, hard cover book... Yeah I know they are nice and all that but if I could get some of this as a softback like the old Complete (XYZ) Handbook from AD&D I would pay $25.00 for those all day rather than $40.00 for a hard cover. |

| #52JavagamerOct 16, 2014 4:37:35 | Question for the group... Why not take old content ie "Halls of the High King" and play it with 5E rules? For those wanting old school modules updated why not just run them and sub out npcs etc. Lets learn to use OUR imagnation !

| #53ellivaaOct 24, 2014 12:48:44 | Modules - including reprinting all the old ones from the 70s / 80s (actual reprints, not downloads), converting them would be fine but not necessary Settings - Every single one mentioned here, but especially Ravenloft and Dark Sun. Plus Gamma World, Boot Hill and Star Frontiers. More MORE MOAR support books and modules
ABSO-FRIGGIN-LUTELY NO SPLAT BOOKS!. While I love the content of all the 2E books, the modifiers just hurt the game in the long run. Or, better yet, make them optional!!!
just more please |

| #57DMCogDec 10, 2014 9:33:47 | Well, I've just picked up my 5E Player's Handbook and had a good long look through it. Gotta say, WOTC was a company I had washed my hands of during/after 4E release. I was happy with 3.5 and even meddled a bit with pathfinder. However after a long time of playing various science-fiction themed games. D&D pulled me back in and I find the exact thread I want too on the forums. Hopefully WOTC staff read these things, though I suspect that they have their releases planned for a bit yet. TLDR: Avoid Rules/Power Creep. Embrace Options or "Buttons & Levers." So as particular releases I'd like to see. Monster Manuals: 3.5 Had the right idea. 3-5 Monster manuals. Expansions on current types, old monsters & new, variants of existing ones & additional templates. Oh. Can't stress this enough: GEM DRAGONS PLEASE!~ Complete Classes: I'd advised either doing these based upon the 4 Classic archetypes: (Fighter, Cleric, Wizard, Thief). Or one for each of the twelve base classes. I'd say avoid adding additional classes. However do add Feat Options, Items, Varients upon the various class-specific themes. I.E.: More Sorcerer Bloodlines, More Monk Paths, More Druid Circles. Of course I'd add in a hefty amount of equipment, both magical and mundane, and of course new spells for the proper classes. Book of Exalted Deeds/Vile Darkness: These were, though odd, good over all supplement in 3.x Editions. And they cover the gamut of alignment models & things those models might involved themselves in. Same advice as above, though I'd add in throwing in a couple of races. Manual of the Planes/Planar Handbook: A great book for planar campaigns, I'd suggest basically just a 5E variant of this in full. No new classes again, but everything else: Feats, Spells, Items, equipments, etc are fair game. Deities & Demigods: This is an iffy one. As I think WOTC might be better if they release setting books, to go with a "Faiths & Pantheons" Style that they did with the old FR 3.5 stuff. If it is as a general release. I'd suggest adding something like the divine rank/salient divine abilites for those campaigns that might go beyond the 20th level. Epic Handbook: This isn't one I'm really hoping for, but we've gotta keep in mind there are players & GMs who want to document/play the journey from 1st level nobodies to cosmically powerful beings. I'm not sure how it'd be worked. Of course new epic boons, maybe new feats. A progression for proficiency beyond 20th and up to 30th. Again. Not sure how it'd be done, but epic magic seeds maybe? Races Book: Instead of a variety of race books where we go into depth about a particular race or three. I might suggest going something along the lines of a book of races compiled from previous editions, and perhaps and race creator. Also rules for playing monstrous races would be very nice. Spell Compendium: Just like the 3.5 book. Just a collected list of spells compiled from various other books in one handy tome. The same could be said for a Magic Item Compendium. Though I'd suggest splitting the two into seperate products. Draconomicon: Just like the spell compendium, but for dragons. A one catch all book for dragons, their lairs, their treasures and just all things dragon-y.
Setting books I suspect we'll be getting updates for Greyhawk, Forgotten Realms and Dragon Lance. I wouldn't mind seeing Dark Sun myself. Eberron I can take or leave. Goofy Wish List Vote: Spelljammer

I do not want to buy all the books, but I want access to all the ruels and options therein. I am willing to pay a subscription for that convenience.
I loved the convenience of the on-line tools. Better even than pdfs of books. I had pdfs of every Fourth Edition book, and once we had the on-line Compendium, I never had to look at a single pdf again unless I wanted to read something for pleasure. |
| #59bob_goes_upJan 31, 2015 3:16:15 | I would love to have a book of short oneshot adventures, that can be adapted to any setting. |
| #60SlaveroneFeb 05, 2015 11:02:44 | Ravenloft for Azalin's sake!Also would like to see Dark Sun return in 5ed too.
Planescape would be awesome!
I'm tired of FR...time for Greyhawk to return. |
| #61XallinFeb 20, 2015 11:06:58 | I'd really like them to just stick with the 3 core books for a while. There is plenty there. I'd like to see two things happen.
1) I'd like to see the return of the boxed campaign settings from 2nd Edition. I'd love to see a box set for PlaneScape, and DarkSun, and Ravenloft, as well as Eberon. The campaign boxes contain any new classes, races, factions ect. that are available to you in that world. As well as maps, story stuff, places of import and interest, anyone familiar with the 2nd edtion campaing boxes knows what I'm talking about, there were the best. This also means we don't end up with a billion damn books.
2) I'd love to see WotC to revist the adventures from 1st, 2nd, and 3rd edition, releasing 5e compatible stat blocks for the monsters in those adventures as well as any skill challenges and so forth that were present. There are so many great adventures out there and I think WotC could make a killing by simply bringing them up to date in 5e. Releast the statblocks as pdf only to save on prining cost at like 10 or 15 bux a pop. I'd love to play City of the Spider Queen (Forgotten Realms), Return to Castle Ravenloft (Ravenloft), and The Great Modron March (PlaneScape) again in 5e. As well as many of the smaller advenutres like Sunless Citidel (3rd Edition), Ship of Horrors (Ravenloft) , or Shadows of the Last War (Eberron). I know I'd buy these as would many of the people I play with.

| #62Shadowrom_76Feb 20, 2015 16:51:11 | I'd really like a german translation for D&D 5. I own all three core rulebooks and played a few rounds with my group. We all really like the new iteration aof D&D. Unfortunately two players on our table have their problems with english and I had to translate some content for them. This is a real problem! I spend more of my spare time translating spells (109 'til now), classes (3), and Races (2), than for preparing campaigns and adventures. I doubt my translations are of good quality, but they'll have to suffice until Wizards decides to have at least the players handbook localized.
P.S.: Before anyone asks... I won't publish my translations and I won't send them to anyone. No offence, but I'd like to protect myself from legal issues. |
| #63MephistoXtheXredFeb 22, 2015 20:45:34 | I certainly want everything from 3.5 Tome of Magic updated, Shadowcasters especially, and though I thought the Truespeakers and Vestiges were mechanically kind of lackluster in 3.5 I think the 5e mechanics could do it pretty well and the concepts for the classes were really neat.
In addition to that we need a Psionics Handbook, Prefferably one that will avoid WotC tendency to make Psionics machanics feel almost exactly like sorcery. Something closer to DaemonEye publishing 3.5 Psionics Ascendant book, or the psionics from 2e.
And seriously at least 1 more Monster Manual
Other than that we could use some campaign settings I'd like to see Eberron, Ravenloft, and Darksun. As well as some maps and current events stuff in and around Faerun. |

| #67steve-s332Mar 15, 2015 5:58:55 | I'm not particularly interested in seeing loads of extra rulebooks (even going back to 2e with all the "Option" books I thought that was a bit much although nothing compared to later editions). I'd be happy to see an additional PHB with some extra class specialisations and a few new classes, another MM perhaps, and a book of additional magic. The main thing I would enjoy would be campaign settings (Forgotten Realms please) and adventures (some of my favourite D&D sessions were played Against the Slave Lords and tramping through the Desert of Desolation). |

| #69EbinmeisterMar 16, 2015 18:47:56 | I'd love to see like expanded customisation options for the existing classes and more specialization options for the classes, like Arcane Archer for the Ranger or something completely new. Especially Sorcerer, Wizard and Ranger could use some extra tools and alterations.
Monster Manuals that are thematic. Like a MM "Wilderness and Woods" or "Depths and Dungeons", which would have creatures that could be found in those kinds of surroundings. Like the hypothetical "Depths and Dungeons" could have anything from cave creatures to Liches, undead or other monsters lurking in the dark places of the world. Or just "Monster Manual: General Monstrorum", which would include some of the more classical creatures of the D&D multiverse. |
| #70TheNovaLordMar 25, 2015 17:09:40 | New races. Hmm, ok New classes. No New options for current classes. Yep, the Oracle cleric, the cavalier fighter, etc New feats. Cautious.......this is one thing the killed PF for me Endless alchemical and other equipment. No, no, no |
