| #2sfdragonNov 08, 2011 22:01:38 | being that I did not like the book of exalted dead or the book of vile trash in the last edition. I do not want to see anything in the current. just remember, you did ask. you didnt ask why |
| #3sallaNov 08, 2011 22:10:16 | A book of matches so I can set it, and the Book of Vile Dorkness, on fire. |
| #4Chiba_MonkeyNov 09, 2011 3:17:25 | Well, I, for one, liked the BoVD in the last edition. Sure the artwork was tasteless in most respects, but the sections on the nature of Evil and running Evil games were very mature and well-thought out. I sampled bits from that book to create some TRULY monstrous villains, the works of whom upon creatures traditioinally viewed as monsters (beholder, medusa, mind flayer), elicited sympathy from my players. The BoED, on the other hand, was trash. I've never encountered a more obnoxious bunch of over-powered, unnecessary garbage in a WotC product before or since. The BoVD was useful as a DM supplement. Since the BoED was intended for players (being as that the D&D game in general is geared towards heroes), it led to some of the most ridiculously overpowered, and above all game-breaking garbage I have ever seen.. I have read most of the preview material reagarding the 4e BoVD, and I'm looking forward to it. My players, who enjoy 4e, are looking forward to an Evil game (ever since Heroes of Shadow came out, especially), and I think that once the BoVD comes out, the whole group will feel we have enough material to have an Evil game that really feels unique and not just a re-flavoring of the D&D game's stanadard classes and powers. As far as a 4e BoED...the 3e one was such a travesty that I don't think I could possibly be interested in another one. |
| #5hyrsamNov 09, 2011 7:25:43 | I do remember some good stuff in Book of Exalted Deeds, like the familiars. Just because the first one was flawed, doesn't mean this one had to be. Take the best of the first one, convert it and add whole new stuff. Plus the DM booklet could have good and Lawful good monsters for your evil Vile Darkness PCs to fight. 4e has very very few.monsters that are naturally good or lawful good aligned. I'd like to see Solar and Plantars brought back as more evolved Devas. A theme that gives you a guardian angel, a theme of vows, marriage theme, ect... |
| #6Style75Nov 09, 2011 10:12:03 | A book of matches so I can set it, and the Book of Vile Dorkness, on fire. My thoughts exactly. The last thing D&D needs is more ammunition for the haters out there who think we are some sort of evil devil worshipping cult. Don't think people believe that? Lots still do and they can be vocal about it. The BoVD will stir them up again and make it difficult for lots of young gamers out there who are trying to convince skeptical parents to let them play the game. I lived through the "D&D is satanic" nonsense of the 1980's and don't wish to go down that road again. And the BoED was overpowered junk. |
| #7MarandahirNov 09, 2011 12:27:58 | It would be cool to get some Heroic Themes, Paragon Paths, and Epic Destinies that feel, well, exalted, to steal a term from the Exalted game. Well, Epic Destinies already feel that way, but more Themes that really emphasise that you're not from a normal background, but from a background that's special – that you're above and beyond others by birthright, would be cool. And Paragon Paths can support that as well. Beyond that, I dunno. |
| #8ah_stormbringerNov 10, 2011 13:08:17 | Those books were just plain bad no need to make the same mistake twice. |
| #9sfdragonNov 10, 2011 13:51:04 | they were too far on the extreme ends of things for my taste.. |
| #10tbok1992Nov 13, 2011 13:15:42 | I will admit that the original BoED was waaaaaay too sickeningly sweet. But I do think that there could be some neat stuff done with it. Stuff like: * Stats and templates for nonevil individuals of the monsterous races, such as a mindflayer that has transcended the need to eat brains, and a small troupe of devils that tries to be mostly good but has to commit very minor, petty acts of lawful evil once in a while to avoid going insane. * Artifacts of good, like an enormous Light Golem and a medalion to control it with, a mechanical angel arm that you graft to yourself, a whistle that calls for divine help in your darkest hour, a psionic crystal with the conciousness of a long-forgotten/dead god (Maybe He Who Was?) inside, and the classic Regalia of Good. * New good themes like a future-predicting oracle, a sin-eater who takes on the pain of others, the injestor who eats magical materials to take on their properties, the bargainer who makes deals with angels for power, the ancestor-speaker who calls to the ghosts of their ancestors for aid, and the bonecrafter which blends necromancy with radiant energy abilities. * good creatures like the Flumph* or the Hollyphant done up in the same manner as henchmen from Mordenkaiden's magnificent emporium * Essentials-style stats, feats and paragon paths for certain monstrous races. And that sort of thing. Anybody else like those ideas? *Note that my concept of the Flumph is as an abberant creature that terrifies the other abberant creaturs BECAUSE it is lawful good and they can't comprehend that at all. |
| #11HippolyteNov 15, 2011 6:57:05 | I often prefer to play paladins or other such champions of light and goodness. I also prefer Tolkienian campaigns against the darkness. The world in which we live every day is so full of wickedness and immorality, that it is nice to roleplay a world where good can triumph unequivocally. I would love to see a book dedicated to such players and campaigns. I have had enough of assassins, shadows, warlocks and demonology: such make good opponents and good villains, but give us our Galahad and Percival and Holy Grail as well. |
| #12hyrsamNov 15, 2011 7:22:57 | Eldrich disciple as a pp would be cool multiclass/hybred warlock divine classes. A Martyr ED too. |
| #13Janx_14Nov 15, 2011 8:35:36 | A book of matches so I can set it, and the Book of Vile Dorkness, on fire. Wow, I think that one blog post is full of bile, hatred, and false information. I can see a BoED being sort of the "divine power 2", just in essentials-style. Of course, instead we'll probably see a "divine" wizard subclass instead of invoker support. |

| #15tbok1992Nov 24, 2011 13:06:33 | Also, the problem with the BoED in my opinion was that it was dull. I mean, the original Book of Vile Darkness was dumb (Including such items as a bag full of poop that produces a giant cockroach once per day and THE NIPPLE CLAMP OF EXQUISITE TORTURE), but it was a fun kind of dumb. BNoED was just so saccharine and twee. I think that one of the main goals of the book, should they produce it, is to show how good can be just as awesome and badass as evil, maybe even moreso, and how good doesn't have to mean sappy and sweet. As well as tips for keeping people from turning "Lawful Good" into "Lawful Stupid" and how to keep a party from defaullting into the "larcenous sociopath" mold so many parties fal linto. Also, what do you guys think of those possible ideas I brought up for what they could do if they brough the book back in my previous post? |
