Where's my Demonomicon?

Dec 27, 2008 21:38:10 So we have the most excellent Draconomicon with the most excellent vampiric dragon. We have Open Grave coming out in January with my beloved Demi-lich. When will we see a Demonomicon? How about a 4e version of the Book of Vile Darkness? I want a sourcebook focusing on the Abyss or the Nine Hells or both! Who's with me!

Dec 27, 2008 21:41:41 A guide to demons and/or devils would be welcome. Perhaps an Elemental Chaos book for Demons, Efreet, Archons, and the like, and an Astral one for Devils, Angels, Githyanki, and whoever else lives on the Sea. I'm not sure how well the MotP handles this, however.

Not a Book of Vile Darkness, though. It didn't work the first time, and doing it again in an edition that's trying to take the mechanics out of Evil (and Good) would not end well.

Dec 27, 2008 21:42:41 The Demonomicon of Iggwiliv is a regular feature in Dragon Magazine. They've already done 2 articles on Yeenoghu and Baphoment, and there will presumably be more to come.

The Codex of Betrayal is there for Devils.

If you want a Demonomicon, get a DDI Subscription.

Dec 27, 2008 23:28:34 Seriously, calm down. 4e hasn't even been out for half a year yet, there will be another 5-10 years of books coming out. Of course they will be making a book on elemental chaos threats. Just be patient.

I guess from the sense of evil that it instilled on players, yeah, it's wrong. I just think it'd be a good title for a book full of abyssal / nine hells monsters, societies, artifacts, magic items, and other goodies like we find in the Draconomicon.

Dec 30, 2008 11:51:13 After reading 4E's Manual of the Planes, I've been wondering the same thing, and given how successful monster-type books (Draconomicon, Libris Mortis, Open Grave, etc.) seem to be, I think it's just a matter of time before they do something like this.

If "Book of Vile Darkness" doesn't fly for you guys, what about resurrecting the name "Fiendish Codex"? I don't mind that.

A) They'll need the individual articles on archfiends and similar beings as material to keep people subscribed to the DDI. If the DDI runs into trouble (or continues its problems) it'll probably lower the chance of a full book on demons.

B) It hasn't been very long since Fiendish Codex I came out, and they'd be retreading most of the same ground. If they release a 4e book within a year or two from now, honestly they'll be compared to that 3.5 book immediately, and given that it's generally seen as one of the best books on the topic ever released for any edition of D&D (along with 2e's Faces of Evil), they risk biting off more than they can chew.
