| #1zenirvanaarchonFeb 25, 2010 15:24:51 | Why is it now after how long 4E has been out I have yet to see a 4E turn based pc rpg? I would have shelled out a few hundred dollars to play a 4E rpg on my computer eyt here I am still wondering? Does WOTC not like making money? |
| #2MarandahirFeb 25, 2010 15:27:59 | Commonly asked question. Atari has the rights, and is sitting on them. WotC's currently attempting to get the rights back.

| #7zenirvanaarchonFeb 26, 2010 9:45:13 | I do not want to play an mmo atm. I want a classic turn based rpg using 4E mechanics. A huge dungeon to explore with hundreds of hours of monsters to kill and treasure to find is what I am looking for. Using miniatures to represent my characters is what I prefer. I do not want to spend time on detail of the characters hair, face, voice when most of the game play is spent wearing a helmet fighting monsters. I also do not care for any movie scenes during the game. Just tons of dungeon crawling with D&D heroes getting more and more treasure. Its pure simple and doesnt take years of development time working on graphics. |

Sounds like what you want is little more than the ability to play TABLE TOP D&D all by your self. An interesting idea, and one that I might find mildly appealing myself, but such a product wouldn't likely sell all that well in the current video game market. Most people seem to want story based cinematic experiences, especially from games bosting hundreds of hours. Even strategic war games have increasingly emphasized story mode play with cinematic cut scenes and/or real time action for multiplayer support.
Anyway the point is moot, until WotC gets the license back from Atari nothing is going to happen. In the mean time, if what you looking for is single player D&D you might want to consider subscribing to DDi. A recent issue of the e-zine had a single player adventure, and while it's only good for low level play, the article seems to have been popular and so it seems likely that future solo adventures may follow. |
| #9lizardmageFeb 26, 2010 17:26:44 | actually sounds like he wants d&d minis the video game. Which would have been fun. |

actually yeah its exactly what I want.
I know that the current video game market is all about cinematic experiences but I do not have the energy to go into a huge discussion about how horrible the direction of the video game market has gone.
All Im saying is that I like 4E and by now there should have been a 4E pc game. I really liked the Temple of Elemental Evil pc game but I have played through it several times and never did I get tired of it due to lack of insane graphics, character detail and cinematic scenes.

| #12mouthymercFeb 27, 2010 7:52:37 | I like turn-based games. X-Com, the Dark Sun games, and a few others. I'd like to see the return of more games like that. Other games always seem like their in such a hurry. You "win" by basically collecting the best or most resources and/or building up your character or army and throwing it at the enemy and hope you hit hard enough to finish it off. Seems tedious after a while. |
| #13mediumdFeb 27, 2010 13:27:15 | Nothing wrong with WoW. It's about as deep as a puddle, but it has a D&D feel and some interesting lore. It's starting to show its age, though.
I've been playing Mass Effect 1 and 2, Borderlands, and Dragon Age. Those games are the closest things I've seen to a D&D game right now. |

Go handheld. Both PSP and NDS has some tactical games in theyr roseters.
Also last best tactics game is Valcyria Chronicles on PS3 (IMO).
Sigh... Me wants 4ed single player Minis game OP wants... |
| #15AwesomologistMar 01, 2010 10:52:48 | You can still have a solid turn based game with storytelling, quests, mini-games and the like. Heck thats what all the Final Fantasy games used to do. At least they still do so with Tactics. Thats usually how I describe 4e to video gamers, "It's like FF Tactics, except one guy controls all the enemies and you control only 1 of characters on your team while your friends control the others."
Dragon Age comes close to the kind of feel I would for a game. Gritty and involved, with interesting characters. Still had its comedic characters and moments too. Was it the best game? No, but it got a lot of things right when it comes to fantasy RPG's.

| #16yellerSumnerMar 01, 2010 10:58:26 | I think that'd be a very sad game if dungeon crawl was all there was. I think it would be a wonderful arena/challenge/endurance mode to attach as a bonus to the primary game. |

Actually I'd say that if you have access to either a psp or a ps3, final fantasy tactics is a deep game that play similar to dnd. |

but it is not D&D and it is not 4E. I played the PSP D&D tactics and loved it but once I went through the campaign twice it lost all replayability and it was 3E rules with no multiclassing at all. Final Fanatasy and other fanatasy games are similar to D&D but they still lack the true D&D look that I want in a game.

| #19aivaruinMar 03, 2010 8:44:02 | To OP. There is no 4ed game and it'll take some time to see one. And to be fair id rather wait for something good than get something rushed. The whole Atari business seems to be the root of the problem.
So I do indulge myself in non DnD tactical games meanwhile. I own NDS so can only mention the games I remember on that system. (I do know there are good games in this genre on PSP)
Tactic Ogre: Knight of Lodis Front Mission: first Disgaya Luminous Arc I&II Final Fantasy AD2 Shin Megami Tensei Devil Surviver Valyria Profile: Covenant of Plume Advance war
Also if one grocks Japaneese Super Robot Taisen is one every god damn system (but only very few localised).
Not all of them are top notch but I played them all and survived (in some cases enjoyed, in some cases clocked timer to 99:99).
There are more me thinks but those that come to mind fast enough.
And to be fair there are old school dungeon crawls: Etrian odysey I&II, Dark Tower and School of Heroes (on PsP) that also give out DnD vibe to me.
Those can same your hunger for now... But no hope for me there... Need to wait for when WotC makes 4ed game (and not some cheap ass action knock of I don't register those as games) |

Oh right, so you want people to *download* the game because they can't play it on their PCs?

Download? What on Earth...?

@OP: If you just want to fight monsters and get loot, you could try playing solo. Create 2-3 basic characters, grab the Mythic GM Emulator (which at its heart is "ask a question, decide if it's likely or not, and roll a dice modified by how chaotic the last scene was" with some tables for other stuff - I've used it for poking at some wargaming stuff, setting up the backstory for the main game, but it's designed for RPGs and some people & groups swear by it for its ability to throw something weird at you every so often), get one of the hundreds of basic dungeon layout tables (or make one, or just throw some tiles on the table and place connections between them), slap together a few encounters for varying xp budgets... or just use something from Dungeon Delves, or taken from an existing adventure.
I haven't done this, but I've heard good things from people who have, so you might like it.

Toolset DM Client Player Client.
It's the closest thing to D&D ever to hit the PC. |
