Who wants to see a Dex/Con monk in Psionic Power

May 30, 2010 13:07:42 Of all the possible builds I can think of for monks, this one sounds like the best stat combination and the most interesting idea. Of all of the stat combinations, Dex/Monk is wholly unused. It also fits the "crazy martial artist that can resist insane amounts of damage" stereotype that I so love in Kung Fu movies. Think of Pai Mei in Executioners from Shaolin or Fist of the White Lotus, where the main characters have to train especially just to hit his weak spots. Or Invincible Armour where the main character learns the Iron Finger technique to defeat the villain's Iron Armor. I can go on listing examples, but the fact is that the monk who can resist crazy amounts of damage and break iron boards with his head is an awesome trope that deserves some time in the play arena.It's about time that the hero can have the unbreakable body too!

May 30, 2010 14:06:49 Seconded. That said, I don't think it'll be in psionic power. It's already been confirmed that psionic power will have rules for weapon-using monks. Now, that isn't necessarily a new build, per say, but it does mean I'm less optimistic about seeing a new monk build.

May 30, 2010 14:41:22 IIRC, Monks (mostly Stone Fist monks) already get powers that give them damage resistance and let them soak up lots of damage.

May 30, 2010 15:57:48 Thats is true, stone fist monks fill that role pretty well and as they usually only do one build per class in the powers books you won't see one till next year at the earliest as the have anounced the weapon using monk for psionic power for this year.

I'm of almost the exact opposite mind. I was extremely disappointed when the first Martial Power failed to give classes any new builds that would allow for greater ability score versatility, and I was very much relieved when Arcane Power actually offered something new. Adding more secondary ability score options opens up the class to be optimal for more races, and I think that's really good. I think that every class should end up like the Wizard, which can make use of almost every ability score (STR being the only exception).

I think that a CON-Monk would be nice, but I'd rather see an INT-Monk.
And before anybody whines about INT and DEX being "redundant" ability scores like they do every other time I make any similar suggestion, I'll remind that the WIS/CHA Cleric, the CHA/WIS Paladin, the DEX/INT Rogue, the INT/DEX Wizard, the STR/CON Barbarian, the CHA/WIS Bard, and the STR/CON Warden all work just fine.

Actually, the Genasi Blaster wizard has Str secondary.
