| #1LordofKhyberOct 24, 2009 17:39:36 | I have a few fellow players who liked the race so I'm hoping that they do. Having a Raptoran scout in our 4E party would be so useful. |
| #2sallaOct 24, 2009 18:12:50 | I wouldn't mind, though consider that their flight will probably only be an encounter power, like the Air Genasi's. Possibly not quite as cool as you would expect. |
| #3Omni-WyvernilOct 24, 2009 18:22:44 | I'm guessing raptorans may eventually become a playable race. However, they probably won't be able to fly at will at level 1. I'd expect their racial feats to enhance their ability to fly, giving them overland flight at high paragon levels when other classes begin to get flying options. Heroic-level raptorans will probably either get something like the air genasi power mentioned before, or a glide/hover ability that allows them to make use of their wings without breaking too many challenges with unlimited flight. Perhaps hovering lets them ignore difficult terrain (similar to one of the racial abilities of the elf) and gives them a sizable boost to athletics rolls involving jumping. |
| #4MarandahirOct 24, 2009 18:38:51 | I'm so glad that I'm not the only one who wants this.
True flight shouldn't be accessible until Racial Paragon. Until then, a sort of half-flight where you can fly any direction but up (thus meaning that you can swoop down, and not get hurt from falling, and fly horizontally as you do so). Also, a +10 to athletics checks when jumping would be good. Also, loosing the wind elemental association, and gaining a sort of primal winds feel would be nice.
Dex/Wis would be optimal, but it's SO overused. Still, it lends itself to iconic builds for the race's understanding of classes - Eagle Shaman, Predator Druid, Archer Ranger, Vengeful Seeker. |
| #5sallaOct 24, 2009 18:43:03 | Well, the raptoran couldn't fly anything resembling full-time until 10th level in 3rd, so at least there shouldn't be hordes of fans calling the waaaaahmbulance because they can't fly at-will from the get-go. |
| #6jedi123Oct 24, 2009 22:20:04 | I liked the raptorans so I'm all for it, |
| #7LordofKhyberOct 26, 2009 18:39:08 | Maybe as the feywild or primal version of angels? |
| #8alitainNov 01, 2009 4:12:27 | I enjoyed the raptorans, though never played one so I never got a chance to see how they worked. Bought the Races of the Wild though because of the catfolk and raptoran races. I hope they'll bring both back but sadly they seem so against anything with flight as a natural ability...I don't know. But if they structure it like being able to maybe glide at heroic, fly and paragon, and fly better at epic wouldn't be bad I guess. |

The 3.5 raptorans didn't gain actual flight until 10th level or so, so it could be a racial pp like someone suggested. before that they just glide iirc. |
| #10azazyllNov 01, 2009 9:16:58 | well, we may get Athasian Aarakocra with Dark Sun next year. I liked them better than raptorans, which were just generic bird men. As long as we don't get Maztica Aarakocra ... Parrot men are just silly |
| #11DragoncatNov 01, 2009 11:38:56 | If bird people do come back, I hope they're a little more on the side of Tengu and Aarakocra than Raptoran, at least in terms of art style.
These guys, even the dying one, are a nifty mix of humanoid and avian form, complete with full digital dexterity and flight, yet still retaining the proud visage of a bird race. Like the Kenku already in DnD, they can be identified automatically for what they are; avians given humanoid form.
These guys look lke someone stuck feathers on an elf, messed up their feet, and then gave them one of the worst facelifts in creation. Those eyebrows... |
| #12jedi123Nov 01, 2009 13:19:38 | I always liked the Raptoran look, mostly cause i like them not having beaks |
| #13DevereauxNov 01, 2009 16:55:52 | I would love to see Raptorans in 4E. Never got a chance to play them in 3E, but always meant to. |
| #14boygnomeFeb 27, 2010 15:27:01 | I just started playing in fourth addition, but pretty much love anything fey. Ever since I heard of Raptorans, I'd hoped they'd appear in fourth addition. |
| #15LordofKhyberFeb 27, 2010 15:57:21 | I bet you can't wait for them to do a necromancer class in 4E too, eh? |
| #16Crimson_ConcertoFeb 27, 2010 16:11:15 | I bet you can't wait for them to do a necromancer class in 4E too, eh? LOL, I was just about to say the same thing. |
