| #1nefestousJun 08, 2008 9:44:24 | This will be an on going list of features that, though, were unavailable in the first release of 4ed, is felt would pose as interesting or important to players and game masters as an option in their games. I will be grouping them into sections for rules, player options, and monsters. commentary will also occasionally be attached. Rules Trip- a general ability any character should be able to attempt, much like bull rush and grab. The rules for being prone are there, and rules in 3ed were far simpler than those of bull rush and grapple, yet those returned. I would suggest str vs. ref or a dex vs. ref attack Disarm - similar to trip and many of the same comments apply. I would suggest again str vs ref or dex vs. ref attack more interesting weapon properties - from the Design & Development article "Fighters: Choice of Weapons" 08/16/2007, I got the impression that in 4ed weapons matter more. When 4ed came out I was a bit disappointed. It seems choice of weapons really only mattered with fighters. I feel other classes got less out of weapons. I would like to example like: shields give +2 to bull rush attack, scythes, sickles, +2 to trip attacks, flails and spiked chains +2 to disarm. Player Options Gnomes as a supported player race - because if this wasn't mentioned I'm pretty sure they would be added soon. They do deserve to be a supported player race Orcs as a supported player race - I'm sorry playing a 1/2 orc in 3ed wasn't enough. I want the full hog now Kobolds as a supported player race - I don't know why there are so many meepo fans out there but he has a following and they are loud. Giving them a viable kobold player race will ensure that they aren't begging for it later. And who wouldn't enjoy the return of the gnome / kobold rivialry. Necromancers - There are many undead. There is necrid energy. There is a god of the dead, and Orcus. I would like the option to play as a necrid energy throwing undead raising controler of the battlefield. Animal Companions - I am throwing in here Paladin mounts, Ranger animal companions, and familiars. I understand that they should not be required by their classes to have (as in 3ed) but I would still like to option have them. I personally would introduce them in the heroic tier. Race development - this is an idea that I liked that was introduced in later 3ed. The idea of races becoming more powerful as they developed. This was adopted partially in the 4ed players handbook. I feel it can be taken further. Unfortunately to do this I'll have to bring back up a sore point for a few players, and that would be the many different types of elves. First I fully agree that there were too many. But at the same time I have to admit some of the alterations that happened were interesting. I could see heroic tier racial feets that allow Elves to change into wolves (Lythari) and Eldarin to gain wings (Avriels) I don't see why similar options could not be done for all the other races. Druid, Barbarian, Sorcerer, Monk, Bard as player classes Monsters (I know they are spreading out the core monsters into the various editions of the monsters manual to make them more valuable as a product, but I still feel the need to point out some important classics) Metallic Dragons - Gold, Silver, and now Mythril, and Adamantine. of the others I put in my vote for bronze (with a face lift), because a non swamp, non arctic aquatic dragon fills many roles, and the idea of lightning with that makes it seem more dangerous. Mercury Dragons - When people where having a hard time remembering what the difference between brass and bronze and copper dragons were, the mercury dragon stood out as a solid memorable "non true" dragon, only because it wasn't grouped with the metalic dragons (advanced dungeons and dragons 2ed, dragons of faerun, as opposed to monsters manual) Fairy Dragons Nymphs - they don't have to be good, in fact the media has already shown us that we like the idea of beautiful women going off the deep end (britney). The feywild will not be the feywild with out them. Fairies - If nymphs are like the mothers of the fairy realm (now called the feywild) fairies are the children. Sure they can be cute, but I would love the opertunity to treat them closer to thier mythological counter parts. Fairies are like children, and as elemetary school taught us, kids can be mean. Frost Giants - I think I actually remember these guys best of all the giants. Lycanthropy as an affliction - I'm sorry, I feel lycanthropy looses its much of its flavor if it cannot be afflicted. Were creatures who cant spread their "gifts" is like a vampire who can't make more vampires. Without it they are just shape changing Furries. I can write pages on the plot options available with lycantropy as an affliction, both good, and evil. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- open to other additions - please keep it constructive. I would perfer to keep it falling into a rampant debate on "how much 4ed sux". I'll leave it to these two rules. If you don't like 4ed don't play it, your actions speak louder than words, and your continuing words belittle your actions. If you don't know what constructive criticism is please don't post. |
| #2thaxJun 08, 2008 9:54:56 | In the Metalic dragons front, I want my Mercury Dragons. Please don't leave them out. Again. Orcs can stay monsters and I will be content with Dragonborn. Leave the **** baby 1/2 orc in the DDi and never speak of it again. I wanted the skill system to be more than a port of the over simplified SaGa crap. I still need to look at it, but it seems to be just that. Comliness as a stat was the greatest addition that I had used in 2nd edition. There should be some sort of feat or something to improve ones looks. I know that a seventh stat is not viable now, but something about beauty/ugly should be addressed, and separate from CHA. - -- - BTW, there is a class coming called the Necromancer, using the Shadow power source. |
| #3nefestousJun 08, 2008 10:09:59 | In the Metalic dragons front, I want my Mercury Dragons. Please don't leave them out. Again. amen to that |
| #4VerysArkonJun 08, 2008 12:42:15 | I would like the material to be better organized than in 3.5. I understand the "complete" series, with the material organized by theme, but it meant having to hunt through dozens of book when picking a feat or a spell. I'd like it much more if future books were more focused, like the Spell Compendium. I don't want to see classes spread around - keep them to the PHBs only. Keep equipment to the equipment books, feats to a feat book (or in the PHBs), and powers in powers book (I guess we'll see how much focus there is in the Martial Powers book this year). I don't have any specific requests for content. My only wish is that the content is organized. Verys. |
| #5jobies201Jun 10, 2008 11:08:21 | Maybe there already is/was one but I'd love to be able to play a game as a "Dark Paladin" class. Just a basic starter class, nothing fancy, no pre-requisites. I don't have specifics, but it'd be interesting. |
| #6tom_kalbfusJun 10, 2008 13:13:18 | I would like Wizards to publish a Lost World Manual, I could just picture it now. On the cover there would be a Dinosaur - probably a Tyrannosaurus Rex, a caveman with a Club, and perhaps a Pteradactyl to balance things off. The book is basically a monster manual usable for the D&D 4e game and perhaps a 4e compatible version of D20 Modern/Future, as such D&D specific material would be on the margins, though for Lost World purists there would be no magic stuff. The Lost World Manual would cover a number of prehistoric creatures organized by time period starting in the Triassic through the Jurassic, to the Cretaceous and Post Dinosaur eras with Gaint Terror Birds and finally cavemen and things like Wooly Mammoths, Giant Ground Sloths and Sabre-toothed tigers. The book would be organized into chapters covering and explaining each time period and a list of creatures alphabetically in each chapter. |
| #7JonOzJun 10, 2008 17:11:56 | Looking at what the DDi stuff is supposed to do, and having put together a couple of encounters, I would really like for there to be an Encounter Builder. That way instead of transcribing a bunch of monsters by hand or trying to flip back and forth through the book, I could use DDi to build an encounter and print it out in a page or two. I also think that buying a book should give you a certain amount of DDi time included (like a month). |
| #8d24478667Jun 12, 2008 16:19:26 | Player Options: Genasi. I like 'em, my friends love 'em, and from what I've read about their appearance in 4E, they'll be awesome. I just want to know when. Oh, and what I don't wish for: A breed of elf for every locale. That was getting ridiculous, its not like they breed particularly fast. |
| #9shinmizuJun 12, 2008 23:25:20 | Monster Options: Something, anything resembling the good old "Habitat/Society" and "Ecology" entries from the old Monstrous Compendiums. (Even if they only get released online, these would be the most wonderful things.) I mean, I love the new artwork, most of the monsters look pretty spiffy, but the descriptions and the "Lore" sections are just so horribly sparse. |
| #10tiwaztyrsfistJun 13, 2008 10:51:22 | Things I'd like to see. Expanded Multi-Classing More heroic Multi-class options, and some Paragon tier Multi-class feats. Like a feat that lets you get a basic class feature of your second class, I.E. I'm a Rogue who went multi-warlock instead of taking a paragon path, I want to be able to get Warlock's Curse, so that I'm more functional as a warlock. Racial Paragon Paths. Like the ones you did in the Warforged DDI suppliment, and like the player made Dragonborn paragon paths floating in the race forum. Something that plays up the Eldarin's Fey nature. Something that buffs up dwarves solid nature. that sort of thing. I'd really like to see Hobgoblins get a full race write-up. I'd be perfectly happy if it was in the Eberron Players Guide instead of a core PHB, but they're so important to the history of that setting, they NEED to be a Fully playable race. |
| #11jsm3050Jun 14, 2008 0:50:23 | Maybe this has been addressed already. I'd like the folders for the rest of the published adventures to be made the same way the slipcase for the Gift Box was made. That thing will last a while. KotS, however, looks rather sickly sitting on the shelf next to it. |
| #12PangurJun 14, 2008 5:14:39 | A general chapter on DCs and situational modifiers. Right now some skills have situational modifiers, but usually they're quite sparse, others that should have them don't, and for some they're simply replaced by "the DM can set the DC". That's not helpful to anyone. A good explanation on how to customize situations can make things a lot more interesting. |
| #13deviknyteJun 14, 2008 6:56:42 | I hope not to see anything asian. No hate on the lands to the east, but the game pushes the medieval fantasy setting with all it's fluff and fluff related restrictions I just don't think they fit. My reasoning is partially because whenever I picked up an asian class my "classes aren't just a bundling of powers" GM whould give me hassle on trying to explain my monk levels. So I think unless they're printing an asain book we can all do without. I hear the PHB II will be featuring the Ki source. I hope it's incarnum because if the new kensai proved anything just cause it's asian doesn't mean it should have the word ki slapped on it. As per above, what's the big deal on the mercury dragon? I thought they didn't reprint that in one of the books? |
| #14zombiegleemaxJun 14, 2008 12:47:04 | I'd like to see a black and white softcover version of the PHB, costing about $20, to make it easy for a DM to buy extra copies for the table during game. Don't change any formats, just use non-glossy paper, black and white, softcover. It would be a good reference, but a lot of the art would not be as pretty greyscale. Thus, lots of people would still buy the hardcover standard one. |
| #15avalongodJun 14, 2008 13:03:01 | I would like to see the witch made into a playable PC base class, along the lines of the 1E Dragon #114 class. The 3E version in the DMG kind of sucked. |
| #16BelorinJun 14, 2008 13:43:54 | Rules for keep building, for characters that don't want to or can't (due to injury, etc) continue on to the upper tiers of play. I have several retired PC's that have expanded the borders of a region by building a keep, tower or castle, eventually attracting people who build a village around it. It becomes another PoL in the darkness. Bel |
| #17DaybreakerJun 14, 2008 17:22:45 | Monsters: Nymphs! Centaurs! The rest of the basic dragons at the very least (previous editions gave us all of the basics and then some -- this one doesn't even cover all the basics)! Combat rules: Disarms, sunders, unarmed combat, damaging grapples, throws. Classes: Monks! Barbarians! Druids! Jedi -- I mean, psychic warriors! Psions, too. Bards! Musketeers (you might want to call them something else) that combine melee attacks with ranged. Sorcerers! But maybe make sorcerers a little more interesting this time around. Samurai! NINJAS! Races: Half-Orcs! Half-Ogres! Gnomes! Basically I want back the stuff that got left out, and I want a little more stuff thrown in. I mean, so far, I've paid a lot of money to have WotC tell me that my game should have less stuff in it. That's just bad capitalism. |
| #18erindorJun 14, 2008 23:52:30 | I'd really like to see the schools of magic brought back. I think it's a shame that as a wizard there is currently only the option to create what amounts to a generalist magic-user. Adding this could be as simple as adding the different caster types as new paragon paths within the wizard class or adding them as unique classes of their own, but I think it really adds a lot to the game to maintain the flexibility of making casters that specialize in the different schools of magic. |
| #19ishan_whJun 15, 2008 0:05:14 | Hey everybody first of all great work with the new edition... Although I miss some feats I get what the new game is trying to do. So I have been a Ravenloft fan since 2nd edition, in the 3rd edition there was the prestige class of Witch Hunter. So my question is there gonna be a Ravenloft 4th, if so please do make a Witch Hunter class or something please it adds more flavor to an already awesome realm. Thanks and keep up with the good work |
| #20insaneengineerJun 15, 2008 7:52:55 | my 4e wish list is ... an updated greyhawk, maybe a series of dragon articles updating a few gods every issue. some mass combat rules more at will combat powers |
| #21lightbearJun 15, 2008 17:51:26 | I want to see more at will powers. More Epic destenies. More high level feats. More at will, encounter, daily and utility powers that build/enhance/expande on each other. I miss my dwarven axe. You know that axe that's build for and by dwarfs. I miss the spells Haste, Solid fogg and Glitterdust. |
| #22jsm3050Jun 16, 2008 10:48:09 | - More fluff - More Epic Destinies - Better multiclass mechanic (probably the only aspect of 3.X I honestly liked) - More racial feats |
| #23ehzJun 16, 2008 14:35:50 | I would like to see some adventures released that are designed for smaller parties, 1 to 3 PCs. Like the old "challenge" adventures from 2nd edition - e.g. Thieves Challenge, Cleric's Challenge, etc. |
| #24corwin_iztal_dupJun 16, 2008 17:13:21 | As for the animal companions this was mentioned in the Converting Your Character Article. "There’s no option in the Player’s Handbook for a ranger animal companion, however… but rangers missing their pets should check out the Martial Power sourcebook, releasing October 2008." So maybe we are getting them in a way that they wont suck. |
| #25graknak_the_smallJun 19, 2008 2:09:53 | I know some people have a problem with them and I know it's a thorn in my GMs side but I have only one thing to say. Psions, and lots of them. I love them almost solely because my GM hates 'em. :D btw, It's not the only thing I play. I love playing just about anything but I have a special affinity for psions, so a nice fat psionic handbook would be sweet. |
| #26graknak_the_smallJun 19, 2008 2:10:58 | Oh, and I almost forgot... Graknak! lol (you know who you are) |
| #27shonuff77Jun 20, 2008 21:04:08 | Monks (morph the unarmed feats from 3e into powers and you a have an unmitgated awesome WITHOUT having to multiclass with fighter to grab them all) with some decent paragon path support. Oh and bring back leap of the clouds!! Ninja with some cool powers as well (refer to Ninja Scroll, Basilisk, Naruto, Kouga Ninja Scrolls, Yagyu Ninja Scrolls, Kagetora, Shinobi, Ninja Gaiden, Flame of Recca, and Tenchu ) |
| #28ninja_poe_bearJun 20, 2008 23:55:58 | 1) Greyhawk Campaign Setting: This has been one "Living" series that deserves a return to mainstream D&D. And with "Living Greyhawk" concluding in the end of 2008, Wizards of the Coast will have material for this world. 2) Books on race creation: I have found that this is more needed than other things. Mostly because they tend to create characters to defy what we are allowed to create. So a book that allows DMs to create races for their own campaign worlds would be a good thing, and even give more experienced players a chance to create a Half-Drow/Half-Elf, a Planetouched Dwarf, and more. (And maybe also add new weapons, armors, and rules for creating cultures, etc.) 3) An actual "Oriental Adventures" book: Not the version they put out in 3e, which was a bad campaign setting. I mean more in terms of 1e, with it giving ideas, classes, and races that could work in either a generic world or even a major campaign world (i.e. "Kara-Tur" in the Forgotten Realms). Beyond that, I can only assume they are going to design rules on being demi-gods and ascending into a higher godhood. That, and a few other things. :P |
| #29insaneengineerJun 21, 2008 7:23:11 | a 4e version of the deities and demigods would be appreciated. |
| #30deviknyteJun 21, 2008 8:20:26 | In response to deities and demigods. 3.5's big mistake was printing it before the epic level handbook. Also not optimizing them in anyway what so ever! If they do plan on printing levels beyond 30 I hope them come out before the deities and demigods. |
| #31GreenKnightJun 21, 2008 8:37:10 | Wish lists, huh? 1) I... want... RAVENLOFT!!! I want this to be the very first setting right after Eberron. Hell, I want them to scrap the "one setting per year" plan and instead go with a "two settings per year" plan. ;) 2) Barbarian, Bard, Druid, Monk, Necromancer, and Sorcerer in the PHB2. 3) Cambion, Celestial (Aasimar), Dhampir (Half-Vampire), Gnome, Half-Orc, and Thri-Kreen as PC races in the PHB2. 4) The return of the Assassin class as a Shadow Striker. 5) Paladin mounts in the Divine Power supplement. 6) Familiars. I want them back sooner rather then later. All I got for now. |
| #32deviknyteJun 21, 2008 9:02:52 | 1) No non-medieval classes. NONE! 2) Asian not to be ki if you HAVE to do asian. 3) Ki to be incarnum style since your doing Ki 4) Transmutator- Striker or more likely Defender, Divinator- Controller, Abjurer- Leader maybe, Enchanter- Controller, and Evoker- Striker. 5) If Sorcerer is going to be elemental, I want a non-book caster for the arcane source. 6) Sample encounters in future MMs that make role-play sense as well as mechanics balance. 7) A pet based class(es) (where the pets get some or all of the powers) since pets and cohorts are against the new rule set. 8) Aasimar, Half-Orc, Non-Human half races or created races (like Elan and Kalashtar). 9) Ranged Leaders, some through powers and some weapon. 10) Melee Controllers, some through powers and some weapon. 11) Martial Controller (not-Alchemist) |
| #33nefestousJun 24, 2008 16:38:12 | Wish lists, huh? You do realize the Cambions made it into MM1. You don't have to we already have them. I wont disagree with thri-kreen being playable either. Heck I want Lizardfolk to get the playable race treatment. And before anyone mentions just playing a dragon born, I say thee "No". There is a difference. I want a reptilian race not connected to dragons. To tell you the truth, they probably could have done a race book back when they were doing race books. "Races of the Swamp" Lizardfolk, Trogs, and some made up race. |
| #34blackdreadJun 24, 2008 21:09:59 | Can't believe that no one has said the magic word yet. DARKSUN!!!!! |
| #35ishan_whJul 16, 2008 10:33:14 | Can't believe that no one has said the magic word yet. There was an article in a dragon magazine were they published TWO dark sun monsters, I think the link is somewhere in wizards page... You should check it out |
| #36LordPastyJul 16, 2008 10:45:22 | Player Options I couldn't agree more with the above points. Especially animal companions. I've had a great first impression of D&D4 except for that. I was very surprised not to see them in either the PHB or DMG, and would hope that they make it into the PHBII, if not sooner (Dragon mag or some such). |
| #37the_ubbergeekJul 16, 2008 15:54:11 | 1) No non-medieval classes. NONE! D&D should not be limited to copypasta feudal europe. There is a whole WORLD and HISTORY. Draw from it all. Don't 'whitewash'. I want to play something like an hindu mystic or african marabut. |
| #38zombiegleemaxJul 18, 2008 16:23:44 | MY-STA-RA!!! And that $20 softcover B&W PHB... |
| #39deviknyteJul 21, 2008 8:08:33 | D&D should not be limited to copypasta feudal europe. All those things are fine and dandy. But their never executed right in D&D, and never properly supported. The mechanics for exsisting classes fight and themes of the feudal eras of other lands. The monk fluff of monestaries was lame and being from the "east" was lame as well. Having your background so far off camera that you'll never see it cause nothings going to take place there. Things like that. Not to mention Samurai, Shugenja, Wu Jen and Ninja. Areas and settings outside of Medieval Europe should get there own books. You've got books full of stuff that don't fit the setting or your splashing stuff from that setting into a world they don't really fit in. |
| #40shonuff77Jul 21, 2008 12:38:46 | All those things are fine and dandy. But their never executed right in D&D, and never properly supported. | #41SamursusJul 21, 2008 12:51:06 | DOWN WITH EUROCENTALISTIC FANTASY!!!! This. |
| #42wpharolinJul 21, 2008 13:07:27 | I wish I was little bit taller, I wish I was a baller I wish I had a girl who looked good I would call her I wish I had a rabbit in a hat with a bat and a '64 Impala ![]() no but seriously 1.) Eberron! (or at least give me rules for dragonmarks and few more options for the gnome/shifter/changling) 2.) more rituals 3.) more traps |
| #43tiwaztyrsfistJul 22, 2008 15:30:43 |
I'd like to second this, though a bit softer. Yeah, the monk will be Ki power source. Probably the ninja too. I'd like to see Samurai be Martial. If you do a Shugenja or Wu Jen, I'd like them to be elemental or divine as appropriate. For the love of God, don't just make EVERY asian flavored class Ki based. Don't make it "Ki is the Asian kung fu power source." |
| #44That_Blasted_SomoflangeJul 23, 2008 12:57:17 | what setting... right now 4th E has no setting... All the more reason why Dark Sun should be the campaign setting for 2010! |
| #45johnthedm7000Jul 23, 2008 21:08:08 | Some sort of summoner class, along with rituals that duplicate the "planar binding" series of spells. So much role-play potential with those sorts of rituals...but alas, tis difficult to balance. ![]() |
| #46ronthedmAug 17, 2008 22:11:30 | I would like to see just your basic animals. Wolves, snakes, birds, whatever. Not fire snakes, dire wolves, and giant eables. They'd kill my level 1 players. Same with items. 3ed had tons of random non-magical items, and my characters usually had carts full of them. More paragon and epic destinie. Oh, and non-magical dragonhide armor. And if the Gaming Table ever comes out, I'd like to see them have premade dungeons available to download into it.. specifically those being released in the Dungeon magazine. |
| #47BelorinAug 28, 2008 23:27:34 | I've decided what I wish for most is a new campaign setting, because if they treat the older ones like they treated the Forgotten Realms, there are going to be lots of people looking for a new setting. Bel |
