Aethios's Journal,

March 24th, 2009. It's 10:16 AM. Central time. A thunderstorm is on the agenda for today, and soon this town will be soaked with rain, and resounding thunder. Bolts of white-hot lightning will arch and crash through the air at 186,000 miles per second, leaving only a residual image of the pattern they once shone. Right now, though, there is no rain. Only gray on gray sky, patterned only by the occasional ridge of a particularly close cloud, overlapping another, further one. It's been like this for two days, now, and morale is sinking as I sit here waiting for the Character Builder to update. It isn't impatience that spurs this, though. It's listlessness and bothered worry.

The worry is for nothing in particular, other than the thought that 9:30 PM will roll around before the advent of its revelation. The thought that I may have to find healthier ways to amuse myself for the time being haunts me. I'm sure it does so purposefully as now, the clouds seem to darken, and the first of the sky's droplets score the earth. The temperature seems to have taken on a chill. It's only a matter of time. Counting down...

Counting down...

After the OP's description of a thunder storm I really want one to happen here. We haven't seen a good storm since last summer.

Oh yeah I am also awaiting the update. It's 12:10 here and I've been up since 4:30 waiting.

It's been as long for us here in Minnesota. It's the first storm of the season here, and it's nice to hear that there's something other than a blizzard with its more dominant forms of precipitation heading with white-headed onslaught your direction, and blindingly-bright crisp clear petrifying(ly) blue left in the wake of ruddy-brown slush and fluff piled up 3 feet high and climbing. Shoveling here is like cleaning off a rock. It will just get dirty again.

Quite possibly the most entertaining "When will the update happen?" thread on the entire forum.

I can't help but catch the sound of birds chattering in the background while the sun beats against the blanketing clouds in the sky. And in my ever so impatient mind, I cannot help but wonder which will outpace the other -- the sun, or March's Character Builder update?

Oooh, are we talking about a side-poll?

I would say that if your an eastern time zone, you should see the updater go down within say 20minutes to an hour from now, and then come back up in about 2 hours with the update :D

Just my bet/guess

Wait... why would it go down? It's not like the program is reliant on being connected to the net, right?

I hope the update hits before noon PST, but we'll see.

They pull it down to update it. Least that's what they did last month :D

That's just asinine. There's no reason to pull down localized software when you issue an update. This isn't an MMORPG, it's a character builder.

I disagree the program is quite modular, and will tie directly with the other projects when finished.

The compendium and character builder are directly connected as well. So yeah It makes sense.

Note: they are referring to the Update Server being unavailable, not your unupdated software going down

Excerpt II: 12:12pm. Central time.

As the wind presses in with heavy gusts through the naked branches of the trees, or through the innumerable quills on the surrounding conifers, I close my eyes and take a long drag off of my cigarette. It seems to come in rhythmic breaths. Or is the wind the pulse of the earth? I note this question for further inquiry. I don't hear any birds singing right now. It must be close. Very close. The air smells different. It's heavy, kind of. As if the word "wading" could be used to describe one's movement through it.

As bad news approaches from the east, we must only turn our eyes to the day of judgment nestled there, far west. But I am in the middle of it all. In the middle of the day. In-between thoughts. Soon.

Very soon...

It's not you local copy of the builder which is taken down. The update server is taken down. So you can still launch the builder it just can't check to see if it is upto date or not.

EDIT: Beaten to it.

Ah yes, I see this now. Glad to see it wasn't anything silly like I was thinking!

Now it's just a matter of waiting a little longer.
