It is showing that his Att bonus for a dagger is +8 +1 for half level +3 for proficiency +5 for strength. Total = +8 However it should be +9 because as the 'Fighter Weapon Talent' he chose 'One-handed' which should give him an additional +1 But the CB is not doing this for the dagger. The CB is adding +1 under 'Misc' for his Scimitar, but not his dagger! Ideas? |
| #2mdonaisNov 20, 2008 15:34:58 | Does he have 16 dex? |
| #3elwyndasNov 20, 2008 17:02:03 | It's true. The +1 bonus is not included for one-handed fighters when choosing certain weapons for the main hand. It seems to affect off-hand weapons when they are put in the main hand, like daggers or short sword. |
| #4lorddravenNov 22, 2008 7:57:31 | Nope he has 13 Dex.Does he have 16 dex? |
| #5lorddravenNov 22, 2008 8:02:18 | Still, the 'off hand' rule should not prevent the +1 being given if the weapon is used in the main hand. If the +1 does not apply to the weapon whilst it is in the off hand, then this needs to be made clear in the CB at the 'Fighter Weapon Talent' selection stage. It's true. |
| #6elwyndasNov 22, 2008 19:19:19 | Still, the 'off hand' rule should not prevent the +1 being given if the weapon is used in the main hand. I agree. I referred to the Character Builder that doesn't include the bonus, wrongfully. |
| #7arnvid2008Nov 25, 2008 10:42:53 | In anticipation of using the Tempest Fighter build in "Martial Power", I created a fighter with a background of Cormyr (Wheloon), the feats Two-Weapon Fighting and Weapon Proficiency(Katar), Strength of 13, Dexterity of 16 and a Fighter Weapon Talent of One-Handed. Character Builder gave me a score of "4" on a basic attack with a Katar in both the Main hand and the Off hand (and I made sure to equip the weapons in each hand). This score of "4" obviously comes from the +3 for Katar proficiency and the +1 strength modifier but the +1 for One-Handed Weapon is strangely missing. Is there an implied bias against a fighter using two light, off-hand weapons!? Also, since the background of Cormyr(Wheloon) gave me Thievery as a class skill, I bought a set of Thieves' Tools but I am unable to equip my character with this item. Are only rogues supposed to have thieves' tools? If so, then why include the Cormyr(Wheloon) background as an option for any character?I had designed another fighter character with Strength of 18 who was armed with a Longspear. This character was given a +7 to attack for his basic attack (+4 for strength, +2 for proficiciency with the longspear and +1 for choosing Two-Handed Fighter Weapon Talent). In this case, the Fighter Weapon Talent was correctly applied. |
| #8arnvid2008Nov 25, 2008 11:03:43 | I just created another fighter character, human, with strength of 15, Weapon Focus (Heavy Blade), One-Handed Fighter Weapon Talent and I chose the scimitar for the weapon in my main hand. The attack bonus for my basic attack is +5: +2 for martial weapon proficiency, +2 for strength modifier and +1 for One-Handed Fighter Weapon Talent. There is INDEED a bias against a fighter using an off-hand, light weapon in its main hand! This bias has just nullified the Tempest Fighter build in the Martial Power rules supplement. ![]() |
| #9arnvid2008Nov 26, 2008 16:27:26 | Okay, I goofed. When Character Builder is updated again, we will probably see that the Fighter Weapon Talent will have two alternatives from Martial Power, namely the Battlerager Talent and the Tempest Talent. If you choose either the Battlerager Talent or the the Tempest Talent, you will not be able to have the +1 to hit Talent offered by the Fighter Weapon Talent. And I think I have figured out why putting a weapon listed as an "Off Hand" weapon in your main hand does not give you the One-Handed Fighter Talent boost of +1 to hit. Apparently, "Off Hand" weapons are not supposed to be in a Fighter's Main Hand, only "official" "fighter weapons" are supposed to be in a fighter's Main Hand. Anything else would be unmanly. :P |
