| #2HerrozerroFeb 08, 2011 13:37:45 | No executioner Assassin... So the 394 content is not complete :P So sad... |
| #3renau1gFeb 08, 2011 13:40:50 | No executioner Assassin... So the 394 content is not complete :P Soon... |
| #4trebor_rjfFeb 08, 2011 13:42:27 | i was in the middle of using it when it was updated, it froze and when i refreshed it it had a bunch of new stuff. still waiting for the OG character sheet and being able to edit information like HP and surges on the character sheet viewer though, and the ability to import portraits. |
| #5mudbunnyFeb 08, 2011 13:47:49 | I am poking Trevor about the Execiutioner Assassin. |
| #6paolomFeb 08, 2011 13:50:01 | I am poking Trevor about the Execiutioner Assassin. Also, today is the 8th ![]() |
| #7brindyFeb 08, 2011 13:50:39 | I can't get it to print properly on A4 - I lose a strip on the right hand side down pages 2 and 3 of the character sheet (both types). I have reported this, but have no idea what status the report is in. Cheers |
| #8WerlynnFeb 08, 2011 13:53:15 | I was very disappointed about the lack of the executioner as well ![]() |
| #9Peter_BergholtzFeb 08, 2011 14:03:17 | A blank portrait is an excellent addition. I would prefere to use my own pics but this is certainly better then having to look at a character that isnt mine on my own charactersheet. |
| #10ZaranBlackFeb 08, 2011 14:26:07 | I would like some more information about character portraits and whether they are eventually going to be customizable or if it's something we should not expect. I'm curious about this issue and whether what people say about legal issues is valid or not. I would like to know if the ability to add extra feats is being worked on as well. I much rather have this feature than the ability to change magic items which was mentioned to be on the drawing board. |
| #11mudbunnyFeb 08, 2011 14:30:53 | I also would like to see what bugs were fixed over the last few weeks. Allow me to re-quote my OP: As noted by Trevor in the stickied/locked post.Today's update was another that was heavy on bug fixes. We addressed almost 200 bugs this time around, as well as some server and client side stability issues. You can find a more detailed list of those bugs here. |
| #12ZaranBlackFeb 08, 2011 14:43:34 | I apologize. I read both Trevor's post and yours and still didn't see it. |
| #13MaximumHavocFeb 08, 2011 14:51:45 | i am linking to this thread as the official discussion thread. |
| #14mudbunnyFeb 08, 2011 15:03:46 | I apologize. I read both Trevor's post and yours and still didn't see it. I see your apology, and deem it insufficient!! I demand tribute!! And grovelling!! More grovelling!! |
| #15zagora_01Feb 08, 2011 15:45:45 | STILL cannot select the summon steed power as a regular paladin! I'm beginning to think this is intentional, and i'm getting extremely perturbed about it. |
| #16WotC_TrevorFeb 08, 2011 15:47:29 | So I've got the word on the executioner assassin. While we have seen it and had a chance to play with the executioner thanks to the play-test article, it isn't officially done and baked until the the whole thing comes up in Heroes of Shadow. When that book's content gets rolled into the Character Builder is when we can expect to build the Executioner Assassin using the tool. |
| #17WerlynnFeb 08, 2011 15:50:14 | So it's not DDI exclusive after all? Ok. Thank you for the update. |
| #18SamrinFeb 08, 2011 16:07:58 | So I've got the word on the executioner assassin. When that book's content gets rolled into the Character Builder is when we can expect to build the Executioner Assassin using the tool. So.... we had the final version in November by mistake... then we got the final final version in December. Does this mean we're getting the final final final version in HoS? |
| #19Aaron_HighcolorFeb 08, 2011 16:08:01 | How about finishing last month's Dungeon content Trev? |
| #20mrmythFeb 08, 2011 16:10:31 | So I've got the word on the executioner assassin. When that book's content gets rolled into the Character Builder is when we can expect to build the Executioner Assassin using the tool. I have to say, this is rather disappointing news. And another example of poor communication from WotC. I can accept the assassin no longer being 'exclusive' to DDI - 20 months is enough time to move away from that original decision. But why did we have three recent months of Dragon magazine that focused on giving us the Assassin? Presented it as genuine content, when it was entirely a playtest for a different product? Why do we have an upcoming book, rather than giving us more new material, instead rehashing something that fans already thought was complete? Why has the Executioner been out for close to two months, and we are only now being told that it isn't actually a finished version? |
| #21ZaranBlackFeb 08, 2011 16:13:15 | I apologize. I read both Trevor's post and yours and still didn't see it. I withhold tribute until I learn about portraits and house ruled feats =). While I don't mind setting my portrait to a blank field I am curious if this is that is the last to be done for portraits or what? It was such a nice thing to be able to use my own pictures when I printed up my character sheets. I'd like to know if I should stop expecting to be able to do that with the new builder. |

When that book's content gets rolled into the Character Builder is when we can expect to build the Executioner Assassin using the tool. It's their "new direction" that they seem to be taking. Like telling you the EoDS would be out Monday, and now it appears to have been "rescheduled" as well. I can honestly say right now, I"m glad I cancelled and I'm not paying for this fiasco. |
| #23HerrozerroFeb 08, 2011 16:15:18 | So I've got the word on the executioner assassin. I was hoping we'd get it like the seeker or the other playtests early. But at least we have an answer. thanks again. |
| #24captcommyFeb 08, 2011 16:21:15 | Is there any way we could get this version in the character builder? I've got a player chomping at the bit to get it up and running, and while yes, I can do it on paper, the builder really is much nicer. Not to mention, as said above, being told it's final content that we can't use till April or even May is pretty disappointing. |

Well, if it comes out in March, probably by GenCon you'll have it in the OCB. |

| #30trebor_rjfFeb 08, 2011 17:33:28 | ^^probably july lol |
| #31thespaceinvaderFeb 08, 2011 18:12:50 | So I've got the word on the executioner assassin. When that book's content gets rolled into the Character Builder is when we can expect to build the Executioner Assassin using the tool. The hell? The final class was printed and compiled in the rules-legal source, a Dragon monthly compilation. After being play tested, and delayed. And now it's being further delayed. I probably wouldn't be playing one anyway. But this is just SO disappointing. Not only is something that's been slated to come out for several months being delayed, it's being delayed because of a completely hidden decision that contradicts the apparent purpose of Dragon content AND being pushed back from the online tools for probably at least another 3 to 4 MONTHS. Not to mention that that is now a month of dragon where probably half the crunch content is apparently only a preview of book content. The Executioner was the single largest piece of crunch released in the last few months, and it's extremely disappointing to find out that it's not considered finished after all the development there's been on it. Not to mention its now-apparently-dubious legality. Seriously? Seriously seriously? That's some major cojones. In several senses of the word. Really not persuading me to re-up, here. |
| #32x3nth10nFeb 08, 2011 18:58:53 | Just to check... there still isn't a toggle for inherent bonuses without having to resort to shenanigans by exporting from the CBC? I mean, not only is the Assassin thing pretty ridiculous, but can this really be that hard? Yeah, I know, lots of bugs fixed. That is really good... at least better than not having fixed them. I just want to be able to use inherent bonuses without a hassle, and the functions for the math are clearly still there... |

| #34Aaron_HighcolorFeb 08, 2011 19:05:17 |
Ahh, but that was never stated when it came out in it's "finalized" form. |
| #35SamrinFeb 08, 2011 19:26:41 |
Not to mention the fact that all previous previews made their debut in the CB. |
| #36MockFeb 08, 2011 19:46:43 | Not to mention the fact that all previous previews made their debut in the CB. Yeah, they did, didn't they? I'm not sure how much place I, as a nonsubscriber, have to comment on this, but...it was really crappy for WotC to string the subscribers along like that. Bad form. |
| #37SamrinFeb 08, 2011 19:52:27 | Not to mention the fact that all previous previews made their debut in the CB. I've only been a non subscriber for a month. Previously, I had been subscribed since it went to a paid format. My sub lapsed last month. |
| #38NyarlathotepFeb 08, 2011 19:53:20 | Yeah, they could have mentioned this when people started asking about it months ago. If anyone at WOTC wants a concrete example of why people say they have poor communication with customers, this is a perfect one. |
| #39MockFeb 08, 2011 19:55:52 | Not to mention the fact that all previous previews made their debut in the CB. I'm sorry, I wasn't talking about you! My apologies! I was talking about me (as in, "is it my place to comment"). I was a from-the-first-days subscriber myself; I cancelled for a refund a couple days after the new CB arrived. I edited the post you quoted to make it more clear. |
| #40the_HorcFeb 08, 2011 21:17:47 | I'm frustrated because I still can't print more than two damn pages. |
| #41KavannahFeb 08, 2011 21:48:19 | Wizards really needs to get its stories straight. The assassin will be a ddi exclusive class. Nope, the assassin will now be featured in Heroes of Shadow. Heroes of Shadow is delayed a month for 'reformatting' so as to change the book size, but that the rules of HoS themselves aren't changing, so we shouldn't worry. Nope, Wizards now tells us that the executioner assassin in this book has rules which are still under adjustment. This book hits the streets in two months. Shouldn't the book already be at the printers by now? If they're still in the editting stage, the printing/shipping of the book is going to be a bit of a rush job. |
| #42RCanineFeb 09, 2011 3:15:40 | I'd like to get some clarification on the "Character Creation Setup" phase of the "Build a Custom D&D Character" option. Specifically, March of the Phantom Brigade is a campaign option, but Dragon-based character options explicitly allowed in the character creation instructions aren't available. Specifically:
These are exactly the things that an Insider would expect to have easy access to—the whole point is to come to a WotC event like D&D Encounters with something special, interesting and probably unique. Sure, there's a workaround: creating a home campaign character. But that exercise is incredibly frustrating because of all the illegal options you have to filter out. What exactly is the difference between the options available to a Quick D&D Essentials character and a character in the Encounters Campaign? * I know, I know I read the above posts. Knowing something like this in advance is also something that seems part and parcel of being an "Insider," if that term had any meaning other than marketing. |
| #43thespaceinvaderFeb 09, 2011 3:18:12 | Rules legal only means anything to LFR not the remainder of the populace. To them it was a preview of a class coming out in April in Heroes of Shadow. Fair point.... Except that the number of people here who are surprised, shocked and disappointed about the decision would seem to be a solid argument against the fact that the remainder of the populace understood it to be purely a preview of a HoS class. I knew it was also being reprinted in HoS (and it disappointed me slightly), but I had no idea, until yesterday, that WOTC were treating what was supposed to be a DDI-Exlcusive playable character class (at least for a few months) entirely as a preview of a book. And yes, as an LFR player, Dragon is a legal rules source. It is also a legal rules source for D&D as a whole. Some non-organised-play DMs also care about that too, you know. Pop into CharOps and see if you can persuade the people there that rules legal means nothing outside of LFR... Or Rules Q&A... Or Encounters... I could go on, but I've taken up enough of your time already. But that being said; it's the bait-and-switch bulldump that bothers me more than anything. If the class had been released explicitly as a preview, and removed from the compilation as the original playtest was, that would have been OK for me. I wouldn't have been pleased about it, but I would have accepted it. But it was released as a finalised, playable, rules-legal class, and now apparently (according to a forum post, no actual official announcement through any official channels) it might not be. Unclear communication really shouldn't surprise me any more, but this is a step beyond. |
| #44Plaguescarred1Feb 09, 2011 5:06:06 | I was looking forward to have the Executioner in the OCB. I really am disapointed. ![]() That it got delayed for datas error i can understand. But to HOLD ON material purposefully until some other delayed book, supposedly because it is getting hardbounded is finally released ? Why just why ? Another bad decision at the expenses of DDi subscribbers for your own freakin benefits and IP. DDi diserves it. We diserve it. I don't care about Heroes of Shadows until it is released. I want the Execitioner in the program i pay for and which is supposed to contain ALL of Dragon 394 with as less delay as possible. I feel i am getting shortsticked to say it politly. ![]() Plague |
| #45rhianni32Feb 09, 2011 7:29:52 | Cant say I am terribly surprised here. Another delay of missing content in a long long line of them. So was there actually any new features added in other then a blank character picture? Some of those listed bugs are big ones but some are pretty minor. Centering text in windows and other display issues. 200 bugs is impressive however I'm concerned about the rate of improvement and features being added to get it up to not only the old CB level of features but then we have the time it will take to get EVERYTHING in the VT fully functional. It could well be 2012 before that. |
| #46sigfileFeb 09, 2011 8:04:59 | Specifically, March of the Phantom Brigade is a campaign option, but Dragon-based character options explicitly allowed in the character creation instructions aren't available. Specifically: That article doesn't have a Heroes of the F* stamp. It probably should, but it doesn't. It's not technically a legal resource for Encounters. |
| #47RCanineFeb 09, 2011 10:25:43 | [The Staff Fighters] article doesn't have a Heroes of the F* stamp. It probably should, but it doesn't. It's not technically a legal resource for Encounters. Your point is interesting and relevant to the issue. |
| #48sigfileFeb 09, 2011 10:28:46 | Your point is interesting and relevant to the issue. It's not missing from the March of the Phantom Brigade update if it's not supposed to be there. *shrug* |
| #49olfactatronFeb 09, 2011 11:40:55 | I think that did it. I'm not going to resub. I've been part of DDI since the beginning, but that's it. My sub runs out in june (I bought the year), and I'm going to let it run out since I have no expectation that the state of the online content will improve at all. This has been happening since AUGUST. That's nearly 6 months of not having your fracking act together. Seriously. No Executioner? That was Dragon Content that I F**KING PAYED FOR. Not in the builder that I'm also F**KING PAYING FOR. I'm going to stop coming to the WotC forums as well. Everytime I come here to hear about the state of the game, I just get more news that pisses me off. Of course, I'm not going to stop playing D&D, that would be silly. I'm just going to cut WotC out of the equation. |
| #50Damon_TorFeb 09, 2011 12:23:14 | So what will it take, insiders? The only significant chunk of content in months was apparently just a playtest to WotC, an advertisement. So what's it going to take? How much are you going to allow them to reduce the value of this product before you say it's enough? |
| #51Janx_14Feb 09, 2011 12:25:49 | Honestly, the one reason I still have my little red dragon is because the subscription is a christmas gift. Even then, im considering ending my subscription. Just need to make sure to go back and download everything first. I know, I was threatening to do this before, I had even turned off auto-renew. The essentials assassin and hexblade/pyromancer articles actually seemed like the mags were on their way to recovery. |
| #52oni_baku_06Feb 09, 2011 13:40:31 | Is there anybody else thats having an issue with printing their characters? Encounters is tonight, so a quick reply would be appreciated. |
| #53MedrievFeb 09, 2011 13:51:52 | For my part, I did cancel since a partial refund for the farce that is DUngeon/Dragon was not an option, according to Customer Service. Then, though, there was a big announcement about VT/CB/AT connectivity which seemed to imply an imminent new development. I am also a big user of iPlay 4e and when I cancelled, I utterly forgot that the site accesses the compendium. I resubscribed quite soon after cancelling thinking I had made a hasty decision to cancel that I would regret and now I'm thinking the re-up was the wrong and hasty decision. Frankly, I am tired of announcements being made (albeit rarely) with absolutely no follow through. The Executioner class is another monumental screw up as this was clearly sold as a DDI exclusive class. Forgetting someone like me who has been around the game for many years, I feel sorry for any new players introduced to D&D and DDI through Essentials who had the promise of a new and exclusive class that the OCB doesn't now support and seemingly won't until the summer. The AT Beta (one of the reasons I re-upped) is useless and without an export feature in this package for the VT, the VT Beta is left useless to me unless I am prepared to invest time I do not have to do things I can do with Masterplan next to no time. Get a grip Wizards! Your product is going down the tubes and from where I'm sitting, you don't seem to care a great deal! |
| #54kenjoonFeb 09, 2011 13:56:21 | Is there anybody else thats having an issue with printing their characters? Encounters is tonight, so a quick reply would be appreciated. Your most likely problem is that you're printing on A4 paper. Try the tips here: community.wizards.com/go/thread/view/758... |
| #55MockFeb 09, 2011 14:39:50 | I was looking forward to have the Executioner in the OCB. I really am disapointed. It strikes me as somewhat similar to holding back the Dark Sun and Essentials material as sales points for the online CB. Not the same thing exactly, but...similar. Distasteful. |
| #56ebergFeb 09, 2011 15:08:22 | I think that did it. Yeah, I'm at the same point. I've been really patient, I've been understanding, but this is getting ridiculous. We had a fairly streamlined system with lots of good magazine articles that saw regular turnover into the CB, ditto with books. Now they've canceled half the books for the year, the magazine content is sparse, and there is no consistancy to the updates or when data goes into the CB. Oh yeah, and we are still dealing with a CB that has half the functionality of the old one. They can't even add a ****ing button to turn on a feature ALREADY IN THE CODE. I'm done. |
| #57hametsujFeb 09, 2011 15:34:41 | So what will it take, insiders? Like I said in your linked thread, when the tools stop be useful to me, I will stop paying for them. |
| #58malkonnenFeb 09, 2011 16:25:35 | Is there anybody else thats having an issue with printing their characters? Encounters is tonight, so a quick reply would be appreciated. I am having the same problem. I can't get it to print anything. I get the windows print dialog window to come up, but when i click print nothing happens. The dialog window disappears, but nothing ever prints or shows up in my printers queue. |
| #59thespaceinvaderFeb 09, 2011 16:36:57 | I think that did it. If you've got that long left to run, cancel, and demand a refund. Things will not improve if you keep paying for the service. |
| #60olfactatronFeb 09, 2011 19:08:44 |
Got an email reply to this, so I'll let you in on my reasoning. I'm content to let them have my 40 odd dollars for now. I still use the compendium on a daily basis. I don't know if that will still be the case when my campaign wraps up but for now, it's still very useful. AND I'm sincerely rooting for the situation to improve. Sincerely. But dude, it's like being a fan of... I don't know, what's a really crappy baseball team that never wins anything? It's like being a fan of theirs. |
| #61fcjamisonFeb 09, 2011 22:39:02 |
Leave the poor Cubs fans out of this! |
| #62CrodocileFeb 10, 2011 0:10:48 | Wow. Just wow. This is seriously low. Dragon content has been absolutely abysmal for months, and one of the few large crunch articles turns out to not actually be a written article! It's just copy and pasted from Heroes of Shadow. This is pathetic. It's also false advertising as it's presented as the class, not the preview of the class that's coming out in a book in a few months. I'm so glad I stopped paying you people for DDI. Also, based on this, I'm not buying Heroes of Shadow. I payed for the Executioner once. There's no way I'm paying you for it twice. This is crap. |
| #63HoldenvieFeb 10, 2011 1:56:29 | Adding my voice to the cries of dismay (disgust?) at this "announcement." My DDI account is no longer on auto-renew. |
