2D Artistic Themes for Character Visualizer

Mar 28, 2008 13:39:19 While I see how the Character Visualizer might be fun (and especially useful for the online gameboard), I don't like the 3D video-game look.

I prefer that WotC release "themes" that enable the customer to depict (or convert) their character's portrait in various 2D art styles, so that PC snapshots could be done in the style of say, Elmore's paintings or Helen Bedford's evocative black-and-white style from B10: Night's Dark Terror.

In fact, WotC could even offer "signature lines" for the Visualizer that have been hand-customized by various D&D artists (in the case of living artists) or (in the case of those who've passed on) evocative of their style and approved by their Estate. For example: Wayne Reynolds, Jeff Easley, Erol Otus, Todd Lockwood, Keith Parkinson, and so on.

Apr 15, 2008 18:00:21 Also, WotC owns a huge inventory of D&D illustrations. Why not make them available for use as backdrops for the character visualizer? Perhaps one of WotC's digital artists could excise the "PC-types" from the illustration and patch up the hole. Then the customer could place his own PC in these re-touched pictures.

I'd rather my character look like he's in a Larry Elmore scene than in a CG-crafted one.

Woa there! Are you saying Wayne Reynolds has passed on? I looked around online but saw no mention of his departure. I'm pretty fond of his work. Did I misread this?
