366/156 - files are huge

Aug 03, 2008 21:23:58 I see the new compiled issues of Dragon and Dungeon are out. However, the file sizes are considerably larger than previous issues.

Last month:
Dragon 364 - 8.6 MB
Dungeon 155 -10.2 MB

This month:
Dragon 365 - 38.8 MB (!)
Dungeon 156 - 75.2 MB (!!)

Is this really right, or was there a mistake when making the PDFs for these? Last month's files appear to have been exported directly from the DTP software. These new ones say "Adobe Acrobat 8.1 Combine Files", which might account for the bloated files.

Aug 03, 2008 22:38:40 The sum of the file sizes for individual articles (Dragon 364 and Dungeon 155) were approximately the same as the size of the compiled articles. The recent compiled articles are 4x larger than the sum of the file size. I agree with MrShoggoth that something doesn't seem right. You could have multiple copies of Dungeon 155 hidden in this months file as an Easter egg for example.

I wish WotC would make up their minds what they used to put them into PDF and left it alone when decided. half the downlaods my version can't read, and the other half they can. i cannot afford to upgrade right now and the free reader will just mess up my current installation.

I don't even udnerstand why they don't strip the excess portions form the newer version as it doesn't even use any abode javacsipt or such to do anything but just pictures and text that all odler version should be able to read.

Maybe i got bad copies and need to try a different link as well?

Where are the download links? They are not easy to find.

When you click on the side-menu banner for either "Dragon" or "Dungeon" there's an option for "Issue Archives".

From there you can call up the Table of Contents for past/completed issues, and from there you can download the compiled issue - or the individual articles.
