So I just happened to wander into the Dragon section today and I noticed that there is a new cover up for this month's issue.

I must admit that I really like this new image better. My guess would be that it is of Baphomet. I'm certainly excited to see his article now.

I actually preferred the original cover. It was a re-use of the cover from Dragon Magazine #303 (the print issue that featured "Campaign Components: Gladiators). A bit brighter, more eye-catching. Hopefully the original cover makes it into the monthly art gallery (but I doubt it).

I notice some of the Demons are being "re-used" as well ;). Baphomet was originally featured in issue #341, in a Demonomicon article by James Jacobs. Haven't taken the chance (yet) to compare the two, see if there's any substantive differences in fluff. The articles are 3.5 and 4e respectively, so mechanics are different.

see the sidebar in the baphomet article, you'll see the history of him. Dragon #341 did not introduce the character to D&D.

Yeah, Baphomet has a place in D&D, well beyond the Demonomicon articles. I just think it's amusing that it's not only covers we're seeing once again.
