| #1RoadtoadJul 13, 2009 15:13:49 | Hey all, My group is right on the edge of starting Umbraforge and I'm starting to look past it. I have to say I'm a bit underwhelmed by the Lost Mines of Karak. I've seen mediocre reviews of it here as well. As I was looking around for alternative adventures of that level, I stumbled upon Heathen from Dungeon 155 (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/duad/20080613a) and I have to say this adventure seems like a better fit. We've got:
Which all seems to fit in nicely with the themes of SoW's heroic tier. The "frontier" can be anywhere... the refugees can come into Brindol or Outlook, wherever the PCs are. Hobgoblins who are part of the "Hand of..."? This sounds familiar. And I've even themed Jeryn, the leader of the missing group, as the brother of Edgar Sommerfield (though this works particularly well for my group because I made the Farstriders into friends rather than rivals). There's even a rumor in the hunt-for-Modra skill challenge that hints at cults on the frontier being in the market for weapons. It all ties in so smoothly, it makes me suspicious... Anyway, I just thought I'd share this find, in case anyone else wanted to use it... |

| #5carlosdosbrickosJul 22, 2009 8:03:25 | Heathen looks like an excellent fit, well spotted! I may well use that too. In addition to working in Bram Ironfell it might be worth including the Birdman somehow; there is a suspicion that this may actually be Bahamut in mortal guise, and the AP endgame seems to revolve around a Tiamat/ Bahamut showdown, so the foreshadowing might be important. |
