The index found in the back of Adventurer's Vault 2 is great. Could WoTC please produce a PDF that compiles items from PHB1/2 and AV1 in a similar manner? Having a single document to go through would be a great tool for DMs. Please look into compiling items from previous editions in such an index.

Does the compendium effectively accomplish this?

not really. or rather, not remotely. theres no way to list all the magical items easily. you can get all items, but that takes forever to load. being able to see a list of all magical items from all sources would be epic.

Hmmm sorting by category and sources such as "Rule Books", "Printed Adventures", "Dungeon or Dragon Mags"  As well as sorting by level, GP and enhancement bonus...

Yes... it  does not work.

I just created a list of Rods from the books I own using the Compendium. Worked just fine. It may not be an exhaustive list of all magic items, but with a few more jabs at it, I could effectively make my own list of all magic items from all sourcebooks I own.

While a PDF index of magic items might be "neat" it wouldn't be useful to me because it inherently does not filter to what I can use.

Can I ask why would anyone need a list of ALL the magic items?

After playing around with the compendium, I would say no. Yes, I can get a complete list of items for a given level range, but the tags associated with them are lacking. The AV2 list has additional info on weapon and armor types. Plus, as a pdf I can print out and browse at my leisure without being chained to my desktop, and without being dependent on an internet connection.

That be a useful tool to have in the Adventures Tools.
1) Make Lists Magic Items, which can be filted by type, keyword, ect.
2) Lets you set up treasure parcels ahead of time, and includes item cards, so during the course of the adventure, you can just hand out the cards, instead of having to refer to a book for powers3) Make suggestions based on level/race/class.
