A quick question on Revenant

Jan 01, 2010 11:21:10 Has there been any discussion on releasing the Revenant race as a non-D&DI playable-access write-up in the future? From the vague reviews I've read on the subject they seem a highly interesting race, lo'! I do not subscribe to D&DI and I hope that I may see the race in a hardcover manual in the future, though at this point that seems more a pipe dream then a reality. Any guesstimations out there?

WotC often changes It's mind and their own policies (whether the decision was made by them, or on their behalf is subjective of course), so I may yet see the Revenant in hardcover. This was my guesstimation as well, though if any others wish to discuss the matter and provide their own guess(es), please feel obliged.

Jan 03, 2010 12:57:31 I sure hope that Revenant come out in hardcover, I want something physical in my hands when I read D&D (no puns please), and so D&Di has never appealed to me, not even for the Character Builder or any of those other "services". Course, I'm more interested in the Shadar-Kai articles, along with a few other racials, feats and skills, so I'm holding out for a hardcover copy. D&Di does not appeal to me, neither as a gamer nor a consumer, so here's hoping for a future release.

Another way of getting the article is to find someone with ddi access and have them print you out a copy. BTW, Character Builder is a godsend for me. I require my group to use it, even if I have to input their PC on my computer. All the bonuses are precalculated on the power cards without having to figure out where those bonuses are coming from every time you use a power.

True enough, and I shall be hoping. Unless someone bought me the service as a gift or something, D&Di is not something I would personally spend money on, but I'm always down for hardcover manuals. Too the future eh! (Maybe)

Jan 05, 2010 14:37:24 The thing is Wizards is kind of in a bind when it comes to the Revenant, as they stated it will not be available through anything other then D&Di, As a result, the only way to get it into print, and not break that promise would be to make a printing you had to be an insider to receive, a free mail out booklet would work, or maybe if they decided to offer printed copies of the magazines for subscribers to order. But I think this would not be very feasible.

Wizard's can make any number of consumer "promises" and break every one of them if they want, they might piss a few people off, but there will always be another consumer to fill the gap for a few angst players. Ultimately, Wizard's exists to make money; if they come to group test (or whatever) that the "exclusive D&Di material" in a hardcover format would make consumers rush to the stores, then they'd print it in hardcover. Period. It's all about the Benjamin's, as the saying goes, and all that "D&Di exclusivity" is just as much a product as anything else.

Now, don't get me wrong; I fully support D&Di, I know lots of people who use and enjoy it, and I hope for their sake it maintains itself as a viable product for the cost of service. I, however, see no need, no want or desire to pay for D&Di; not for the Builder, not for the Compendium and not even for Shadar-Kai or Revenant articles. I'd rather wait for a hardcover book. And if it never comes? Then it never comes, plain and simple.

Still, I'll hope where there is still hope, and with a company like Wizards, there is always hope until it's over. Sorta anyway. Heh.

Jan 10, 2010 12:20:48 I appreciate all the back-n-forth, it's given me some new views to consider, maybe D&Di isn't so bad, but I'm still not sure about paying even by-month, just for a single article. I'll have to think carefully on that.
