Fair enough.
However, the insipid cartoon 'congratulating' me for finding a nonexistent page with the 'encouragement' to try to do it again is inappropriate. Kindly keep the hacker humor off the production servers and the production web site before someone who lacks a sense of humor whacks you up the side of your collective heads.

I much prefer a sense of humor. It at least means that someone put some thought into it. You know they considered the customer, and tried to make the web site more personal.
If you don't like it, sure, but clearly some do. It's hardly complaint worthy.

This is a website for GAMES that are supposed to be fun. Also, those in control obviously have a sense of humor, otherwise we wouldn't have the Gnome cartoons. I love the sketch of the gnome riding the dragon. He looks so happy.
Do bear in mind that WotC is in Seattle (I don't know what time zone you're in, but I am in Michigan, 3 hours later than the west coast) and at this moment in time, it is not even noon.
I for one, love the gnome on that 'thing - is that a dragon? I don't know.' And like the others, I don't see a reason for them to remove it. Sure, it's annoying that articles or content that they 'promise' via the content calendar is not up, but still... No need to vent out that frustration on a happy gnome... right?
I too, love the gnome-rider 404 page. So much so that I've been sending gamer friends links to broken pages just so they can see it 
Funny 404 messages are win, and this one is no exception.
I've got no problem with a funny 404 page, but it should automatically email CS (Customer Service) with the pertinent browsing information and notify the viewer that this has been done, so that CS can deal with it, and we can move on.

That strikes me as impractical given how often links are broken either due to a bad copy/paste, people making typos (I'm guilty there), or even assorted bots that might try quasi-random address permutations to try and find exploits.
Seems like those e-mails would be of little more worth than junk spam.
Though it's possible you're right, and even possible that this functionality is already enabled.
