When are we ever going to get an update to the Ability Generator? As is it still only has PHB1 races, it doesn't even have Genasi and Drow which were released in September of last year. It's been nearly 7 months and it's still not in the Ability Generator.

This is absolutely unacceptable for a paid service. If the generator was a free tool, I'd understand, but this is a service we pay for that has absolutely no support at all.

The ability generator is a bonus tool [1] that was put together in the spare time by an ex-employee at WotC in his spare time. It has since been superseded by the Character Builder and no longer receives, as far as I know, any support at all.

I will however pass this up the ladder to see if they have someone who can update it.

[1] Bonus as in we don't pay for it. It's presence (or not) in the suite of tools accessible to subscribers has no effect on the cost of the subscription.

Thank you for this clarification.

Although I would like to bring up the point that it is not entirely superseded by the Character Builder, because there are many options that the Character Builder doesn't support (ie. Hybrid Characters, House Ruled Classes, ect...)

Hybrid characters are currently in playtest, and probably won't be added until the book caontaining them is out. As for house-ruled classes, it shouldn't suprise you that the character builder isn't set up for those. The CB is designed for use with WOtC material. It would require a great deal of work (more than is worth, in my opinion) for them to expand the capabilities of the character builder to be also able to do custom classes that include all of the possible interactions between fields.

Not to mention that all the Ability Score generator does is point buy, modified by races. That is something that is well within the scope of the character builder. If you are able to use the ability score generator, you have a subscription to DDI, whic allows you to use the Character Builder as well.

you do pay for them. they even tell you which bonus tools you'll get on the subscription page.

" Bonus Tools that will help you spend less time prepping for your game and more time playing it: the Encounter Builder, Monster Builder, and Ability Generator "

it's part of the package, whatever it is called is not really important.
