| #1arnvid2008Nov 05, 2010 16:48:40 | The members of my little gaming group 'piggy back' on my D&D Insider's account. I download each new update of the Character Builder to my home PC, then my DM uses my account to download the update to his PC, then another member downloads the update to his PC. I also share with my gaming friends the D&D novels that I buy as well as the player supplements. Since it is likely that my friends will want to continue 'piggy back' on my account once Character Builder goes 'into the cloud', will I be able to set up individual folders within my account so that my friends will be able to store their characters in individual folders or will all characters stored under my account be plopped into the same folder? While I highly suspect that the management of Wizards would prefer that all of my friends get their own Insider accounts, some of my friends are not as 'techno-nerdy' as I am and thus I want to ease their transition from the PC-based Character Builder over to the cloud-based Character Builder. |

This is also in essence stealing from WOTC. You are not the only one that has done this and I am sure that this is the reason that we are moving to the web based CB. |
| #3arnvid2008Nov 07, 2010 10:42:02 | Well, I have so informed my gaming friends and I have downloaded the FAQ that discusses the minimum system requirements as well as the Silverlight add-on. Whether more of my gaming group will become Insider members, is hard to say. As for the 'stealing' part, have a care. Whenever Wizards has published a new Player's Handbook, a new 'Power' supplement (Martial Power, Martial Power 2, Arcane Power, etc.), I have always bought two or three copies. One copy for my personal use and the rest to share with my gaming group. And as far as that goes, back when Code Monkey was handling e-Tools, I always paid 'Full freight' for each update (about $250) which I then shared with my gaming group. And I still want to know if the new set-up will permit me to have sub-folders or sub-directories within the master folder or master directory. While some of my gaming group are still employed, some are NOT(!) and I do not want to increase their economic misery. So, I am a self-confessed thief and so what? I am currently retired from a civil service software development appointment, in which I donned the 'gray hat' many times for the betterment of my agency. |

| #5arnvid2008Nov 08, 2010 2:20:37 | a 20 character limit on the complete file name? hmmm....... obviously, if I have to share my account with someone else while they acquire an Insider account, then I will have to instruct them to attach a prefix of their initials to the character name; and, yes, I will urge them (at least the employed members of the group) to acquire Insider accounts. |
| #6CailteNov 08, 2010 5:59:13 | No not a filename limit, a limit on the number of files. You can have 20 PCs on the servers (please lets not use WotC's dodgy marketing catchphrases). |
| #7lomerell_dawnbringerNov 08, 2010 6:56:01 | a 20 character limit on the complete file name? This is why WOTC pricing is a slap in the face with the new online model. WOTC is aiming to quintuple your costs for using the DDI without offering any new content AND while taking awhile functionality you previously enjoyed. community.wizards.com/go/thread/view/758... |

I'd not caught this information. Where was this posted? I can easily make 15 characters just coming up with a PC concept for a new campaign, or to replace a dead PC. Not to mention making NPCs. |

| #10ShedeoNov 08, 2010 12:24:02 | This is complete and absolute BS. This whole thing had me irked from the start, but a limitation on characters? This makes no sense. Sure, they are saving our characters on their server. But why would we want that anyway? If they would just, I dunno, go with what they already have, it wouldn't be a problem. We could just use the characters on our drives like we have been and it would not be a problem. The words and phrases suitable to properly express my opinion of Wizards of the Coast would get me into some trouble, so for now, I will just keep my mouth shut. |
