Simple question, is account sharing allowed? I hope it is on a limited extent (such as with my group of players offline and online) so that we don't -all- have to sign up to reap the benefits of D&DI, such as the awesome Character Creator (<3).
The only reason I'm asking here is because I can't find the terms of use agreements -anywhere-, which I'm sure would probably answer my question.

However, as a DM, you are well within your rights to print off something like an article with a cool class in it and let one of your players use it. Or if you are a player and want to show your DM the cool article about a city that you want your character to be from, thats cool. Or if you load up character builder on both your laptop and your home computer and let your friends use your laptop, no one is going to bang down your door and sue you for it. And if your friend maybe buys your pizza for that week, or happens to lose a $5 bill in your pocket, well, these things happen, right?
Basically, don't share the stuff you pay for with the whole world.
Oh yea... and I'm not a lawyer. I could be completely wrong. But you'll never get a direct answer from the legal department at wotc, unless you feel like paying them $200 for the few minutes of work it will take to give you the first 4 words of my reply.
Aww, that's a bit lame! I wanted them to make characters using the character creator.. oh well!
Although, that leads me into another question.. if they're using trial versions, can they still view high level character sheets?
no, the demo only works with low-levels.
but of course, you could have them build their characters over at your house. (or use asmodeus' solution - you have 5 updates per month so laptop and pc would not be out of the question. *wink*)

Note, however, that if you are a subscriber even for only a month, you can continue to use the full character builder when your subscription expires - you just don't get any new updates for it. So they could pick up a cheap subscription to get the character builder, and then use it to maintain their character from then on. And they can always get a new subscription if future updates come along that they need.
This is the method I'm taking until the GT (Game Table) comes out. I'm going about every 6 months or so with a one month subscription.
Like Wotc can see what you do in your own home. You're paying for it, so you can use it whenever you want. Allowing your friends to use it to build characters or look up info is perfectly valid and a great way to get them to subscribe for their own personal use.

My friend would let me use his subscription if I wanted to, but I don't like the character builder, the compendium has nothing my books and magazines don't have and I'v got a 3rd party monster builder that works just fine.
I might subscribe one of these days, but not today.

I think its worthwhile, as long as you get the yearly subscription. The compendium and the Char Builder alone make it worthwhile for me. Add in the magazines, and the mosnter builder and thats just icing on the cake.
I can't tell you how often I use those tools. Usually several times a week. Being able to look up any rule quickly is invaluable. Being able to easily plan out what to do with my character is awesome. Completely worth the money in my eyes.

I understand what you're getting at, but I can do everything you can do, using books and it doesn't cost me anything extra. The books are not confusing and the material is not hard to find. Plus I don't have to use extra money on printer ink and paper. Just a good ol notebook and pen and I'm set.

Time is a cost. And since DDi can do a good job substituting for some books, notably books like the Power books or the Adventurer's Vault, it greatly reduces the need to own those books.

All my players use my Character Builder for their characters, and I require them to update, if need be, their characters at the end of each game. I don't share those files with anyone that may also have the character builder. This way, I always have the latest copy of the character, and can print out a new one should something happen to the character sheet.
There is also one character with some secret homeruled abilities, that I go in and adjust the PDF of so that he doesn't have to do any secret math, because some of my players are like the movie clue.

You don't actually think this thread should be closed. You just want to point out the inconsistency of moderation. Can you bring this up in the original thread discussing the closing of threads rather than spreading the debate to multiple threads?

While I'm on that line of thought, the discussion of whether an insider subscription is worth the cost has a few of its own threads as well. However, I don't think any of them are recent, and this one seems to have grown organically from the original topic. Still, it might be worthwhile to try and shift that conversation to the appropriate threads as well.

YMMV, but I, myself, do feel that it's worth the fee. I get great enjoyment from the articles. And the Character Builder, to me as a player, is invaluable for keeping track of my characters. It also provides hours of entertainment to me as I make up characters just for the sake of making characters. I'm in the RPGA, so you never know when I might be able to play one of the new ones.
I've not yet had cause to delve into the Monster Builder yet, but I'm really looking forward to the new Adventure Tools as they are released.
So yes, to me it's very much worth it.
The problem is I have access to everything except the compendium, and I've only paid for 2 months of subscription. I can continue to get all the updates by just subscribing every 3-6 months. Plus having the CB (Character Builder) and MB (Monster Builder) gives me access to just about everything in the game up to my last update, so it leaves the compendium kinda lower down on my priorities. Really to me there is not any content that is worth a monthly subscription. Something that would be used every day like a virtual game table or something that I would log into and play over the internet would be worth a montly subscription instead of a subscription every 3-6 months.
I do need the compendium, having a vast amount of books and NOT owning a different vast amount of them i use the compendium regulary for my group while i play online over TeamSpeak and Maptools.
Wouldn't the compendium exist i would have to manualy look through more than 6 books for the information i seek.
Do i need specific information not handled by the compendium i can still rea din the books.
I'm a GM and loe Dragon, i have not yet a big use of Dungeon, but it'll come, so i like to have it yet.
All this said and done though i wouldn't have anything against an ala card option!
