Loving the Character Builder... However it won't let me add or buy equipment!

It'll let me auto add and sell it back at 100% but wont let me add funds or buy stuff to customise my character. The buttons don't appear to be active.

Anyone else had this and how did you solve it?

Gone through the usual uninstall/reinstall nonsense but no luck.

Ta.

You need to click on the item you want to buy up top before you can add or buy, and click on an item in your inventory before you can delete or sell back.

I think his problem extends a little bit beyond this architect. I've noticed it to, making some backup characters in case one of my current PCs bites the dust.

the builder does not calculate gold for a leveled character. You can't change the amount of gold they have from 100. It seems a little wonky. I mean, what if I want to fully deck out this character with some extra rituals, perhaps another magic item, some healing potions, and most of all, I DON'T want to exceed his gold total for a PC of his/her level AND I want to know how much gold they have left when I'm done?

Right now, it appears I can't. As a hackjob solution you can select to add a magic item of the characters level and then sell it back at 100% to give yourself the appropriate amount of gold... but you really shouldn't have to. I don't see the harm in allowing the cash space to be fillable by the user with a GP amount, and if the the builder feels the need it can convert it from that.

Ah you can add gold.

Click the "Level Appropriate" bit and it will give you the right amount of gold per the DMG guidelines.

Or just click in the gold box and type in the amount of gold you want the character to have then click somewhere on the background. Viola gold at the amount you want.

There's an easy way to do it.

Look over to the right of the equip tab and at the top you'll see a coin.

Click that coin, then click the button labeled Level-Appropriate. It'll give you the amount of gold for your level. I just upped one of the sample characters to 10th level, did that and they now have 4200 GP...

Sorry I misinterpreted the question. I'm pretty sure Cailte and Arknight have hit on the solution to your issue.

Aye they did. Thanks guys. The button was a little obscure to find to edit gold though. Might be a good idea to change those two symbols to text. :S

Otherwise I really like this tool so far :D

Thanks for all your help and guidance... sadly though it doesn't appear to be my 'user inability' on the tool.

It won't allow me to set the starting cash by level (I have a 6th level character from the campaign I currently playing in) and the only challenge appears to be equipment purchase or adding... Starting afresh it doesn't appear to allocate the funds to a 1st level character either... no 100gp or anything!

I can't add any cash either manually or by level appropriate, the only way I can get the cash is by auto-add and then selling kit back at 100%. It gives me a cash pool but when I highlight the item I want and click buy or add then nothing happens!

Your continued suggestions are greatly welcome...

what EXACTLY happens when you try to type in gold manually or click the Level Appropriate Button?

Level Appropriate- You get gold pieces equal to the value of a magic item of your level - 1.

Typing gold in manually- Hit enter after typing it in, you gain that much gold.

Once you do that, clicking the "Carried" button gives you the lightest load possible of coinage(by exchanging GP for PP and ADs.

Jhanzur, I think you misunderstood. Tiamat is trying to learn what Halgabron is seeing.

Halgabron - I just want to make sure I understand.
Start a fresh first level character. Don't bother choosing a race or anything, just go straight to the Shop tab.

Click on the "Adventuring Gear" section in the left column.
Click on the "Adventurer's Kit" in the list of items.

Is the "Buy" button now Blue? (It should be. If not you do indeed have a bug... what OS are you using?)

All 4 Buttons (Buy, Auto Buy, Add, Auto Add) should be blue. Next to them it should say Qty: then have a box with a 1 in it. The next thing should be Cost: 15gp. Following that line across the next thing should be Total Money: 100gp.

If that isn't what you are seeing you have a very peculiar bug.

Just below where it says "Total Money" is the little "gold coin" which you should be able to click on to bring up the array of your character's money. In the GP column of the first and third rows it should have 100.

Change that first 100 to any other number and click in any other box.

Your total money should change to reflect your new number.

Click the "Level Appropriate" button and it should change back to 100gp.

Again if none of these things happen, I recomend taking screenshots and sending a bug report to WotC explaining what you did.

Hi Calite & Tiamat...

Created new character as you suggested and all the phases were correct (Blue Buttons, Qty 1 etc...) until I followed the line across and it says Total Money '0gp'!

Clicking on the coin icon it confirms that my loot is precisely 0gp - any attempt to add funds fails. Level appropriate or otherwise.

I think I appear to have a unique bug... one of the gamers in my group has had no such trouble and is using the builder just fine.

FYI, I'm using a pretty straight forward Windows XP.

I'm going to post as a bug and might even give it the old 'delete and reinstall' another go!

Thanks again.

No problems.

At least we were able to figure it out, as much as we can from outside the program.

Good luck getting it working.
