Hey folks,

Checking in on my Number 1 must have feature.

Does anyone know if an ETA for adding custom items...like those a DM might create...or modify from a previous edition ::looks over at his Encylopedia Magica:: is still in the work?

I like to play a pretty stock game of DnD so things like custom feats/races and what not tend to bother me less...but not having a way to throw items on a charcter sheet drives me bonkers.

Yes, I know I can pencil it in, but when you have your players reprint character sheets at every level, this becomes a chore very quickly.

Thanks for any news!

The only news on this was a blurb near the beginning of the year (Feb?) that was talking about "target features" for the next 2 quarters (6 months) or so.  It was listed then, but has not appeared and at this point I expect the only "announcement" you'll get is up to a week before "patch/update" day saying the feature is in.  WotC has been VERY tight lipped about upcoming features for DDI.

Several months ago, maybe about 4 or 5, they would be adding the ability to add custom items. It was announced at the same time they said they would be be redoing the inventory page.

But then nothing else has been said of it. At the time, it seemed like they were saying it would happen when they re did the inventory page.

And I wouldnt expect the Builder to do the math for these items and extra feats on the character sheet.  The old one didnt and I dont expect this one will. That is why the trusty Number 2 is your best friend when you feel you must houserule.

The lack of house ruling and campaign filters is really frustrating. After all, isn't that at the heart of DnD? Making it your own?

Yes it is but that does not mean the tool has to do it.  The tool represents the rules as they are written. That is like saying they should rewrite the book to represent how you do your rule. I dont expect to see the tool ever "do the math" of adding house ruled stuff.

Create Custom Items is something i'd like to see back though, with a filleable description and a weight & value attribution, that the tool would calculate in your inventory or encumbrance.

This the CBC was handling it.

Exemple [sblock]

4 Moonstones .5 lb
4 Moonstone gems of greyish hue worth 50 gp each. Found on Orc Lieutnant

Vengg Tzar's Skull  1.0 lb
Tarnished black human skull bearring unidentified runes (Religion failed DC) Found in Tsaroc's Ruins Antechamber

Gold Chandelier 4.0 lb
1 foot high 3 candle slot chandelier worth 100 gp. Found in Tsaroc's Ruins Library

Brass Key ring (4 keys) 0.5 lb
4 keys nondescript. Found on Rufus the dead Rogue ? in Gallx Sewers

Map of Syril Valley 0 lb
Given by Count Klerof in Worlov District. Must return after use. Indicate The Cavern of Worms

etc....

Actually it does. Several reasons:

They have told us it will. You don't need to go much past that. BUT:

The old one did this, and they have told us the online builder will eventually do everything the offline one did, and more.

Had they not made these statements, which they have not retracted, your point would have more to stand on.

A content filter is not the same as "do the math" so that point is rather strawman. Doing the math yourself is counterpoint to why you are using the character builder.

A campaign filter isn't a house rule or outside the rules. Since a DM is allowed to decided what parts of the game they are allowed in his campaign. So having it, is part of what the character builder is meant to do.

Simply false.  The old builder did not "do the math".  You could indeed add any custom element you wanted, but it had no impact on the character sheet.  You could "rename" existing items, but that is not the same thing.
