| #1JimSmokerOct 02, 2010 14:14:20 | I'm running Windows 7, which is probably the root of this, but whenever I try to run the Adventure Tools, it says it's checking for updates, the little progress bar fills up green, and then it just sits there forever. Any advice? |
| #2JimSmokerOct 02, 2010 14:22:27 | OK, it now says it found an update, but I can't click on the "Get Update" button, or the "Having Problems?" link. I feel like they're taunting me. ;_; |
| #3QuintariusOct 12, 2010 9:16:01 | I have the same issue (OS is the same). Probably need to install it again. But we could try to update it in administrator mode |
| #4idiotsbrigadeOct 14, 2010 6:48:28 | Same issue, same OS. even when I try running as administrator. has anyone solved this? |
| #5quasiashOct 14, 2010 8:11:26 | The same problem here, OS Win 7 as well, but I've tried on another (Win XP), and to no avail either. In addition, after 5 minutes from refilling the update bar, the log file keeps posting every few seconds: [ERROR] No download sources have successfully contributed within warn interval I searched the web for a solution and still no effects. I hope it will be handled soon. Greetings. |
| #6Chompy_RexOct 16, 2010 12:46:25 | I had a similar problem, but I let the computer do its thing, and after an hour or so, it said that the download was complete. But I cant get into the actual program...The launch button is greyed out and I can't click it... This is frustrating, anyone else have this problem? |
| #7rinehartOct 18, 2010 21:20:13 | Same thing as well,it trys to update the bar gose full green and nothing happens i let it try to update for two hours and still nothing,Im on windows 7 and yes i used that lil trouble shoot guide and its still doin the same thing.any idea on how to fix this? ive tride to run as admin, also tride to run it as windows xp and vista and still the same issue. |
| #8talon65Oct 18, 2010 21:37:02 | Yep, having the same problem. I've tried to download it three times with same thing and after I quit the download there's a message saying that the server is under maintenance. |
| #9rinehartOct 18, 2010 21:48:04 | Yea :/ this is kind of sucks cause im paying for this yea know lol hope they fix it soon as they can |
| #10zaran1Oct 19, 2010 21:40:38 | Same problem here... |
| #11vescoelhoOct 20, 2010 6:32:27 | I am having the same problem here. |
| #12southernmagnusOct 21, 2010 0:34:15 | Exact same problem here. I'm on Windows XP. The bar filled up and then hung for over an hour. Now the bar won't even start to fill up. I'm having the same exact problem with Character Creatror. It'll say the servers are down for maitenence. Ha ha. Bullshit. The servers are down for ineptitude. C'mon guys, this ain't freeware. You can at least do updates competently, right? I have no problem updating any other software. Uploading and downloading on my PC are otherwise working fine. |
| #13andrewgrOct 21, 2010 16:34:11 | html_removed Same problem for me. Interestingly, when I open Task Manager, I can see that TempRealCharacterBuilderUpdater.exe is consuming resources-- it's using up CPU time, performing I/O Reads and I/O Writes, and so on. (Note that although the name of the program says CharacterBuilder, it is actually the Adventure Tools that I'm trying to install-- not surprising that they'd use the same program to update both, I guess.)

| #14nimbler96Oct 21, 2010 21:11:18 | Same problem here. I'm glad at least that I'm not alone. I'm not too impressed so far with the D&D insider since I've had several tech problems and I'm not even able to use the tools I paid for. |
| #15rsaintjohnOct 22, 2010 2:42:01 | See the last page of this thread for some extra tips. The same issue seems to be in CB and AT, regardless of your OS, and I think it's related to some process called TempElevator. Some tips from folks in that thread and from Tech Support may have helped me get both CB and AT finally updated, but results are inconsistent. I can tell you this: be prepared to wait. Get the update started and go to bed. Hopefully in the morning, it will be finished. |
| #16talon65Oct 24, 2010 18:26:00 | Another tip that worked for me in updating the CBI in Windows 7. Start up the program by right clicking on the desktop icon and clicking on "run as administrator" and then procede as normal. I've been trying all the tricks suggested for a week and this fixed the problem on the first try and it loaded right up. |
| #17rinehartOct 24, 2010 22:13:16 | i have tride that among with many other things but the downloader still hangs there and i tride to leave it running for several hours too and nothing :/ it seems though im not the only one with such an issue,i sent an email in and they said they have there teams working on a fix but when that will happen i have no clue :/ |
| #18old_joshOct 25, 2010 12:52:04 | Hey everyone, Customer service has been working with the devs on this issue, and we've found a few different fixes that seem to work for some people. Firstly, make sure that the files in your Character Builder or Adventure tools directory are not set to read-only. If they are, the update won't be able to finish making file changes. Secondly, try removing any versions of Microsoft .NET above 3.5. Previously, version 4 was not conflicting with our tools, but the latest version seems to cause problems for some customers. You can reinstall it afterwards. Thirdly, some customers with Win 7 have reported trying this, and it working: -Go to: start/control panel/programs and features -On the top left you should see "Turn windows features on or off" click on that -Find "Microsoft .NET framework 3.5.1" when the window opens -Click the + sign next to it to expand it so you can now see: -"Windows Communication Foundation HTTP Activation" -"Windows Communication Foundation HTTP non-Activation" -Make sure there is a tick in both boxes and select OK. We've reported the errors to the developers and they are looking into them. Sorry for the trouble! |
| #19rinehartOct 25, 2010 13:18:39 | yea i tride the last one but at the moment ive downloaded to many times so now i cant update any more and they wont give me more download passes? to try any more :/ |
| #20mudbunnyOct 27, 2010 21:42:09 | If you have run out of updates, contact CS and they may give you additional updates. |
| #21rinehartOct 28, 2010 0:17:58 | If you have run out of updates, contact CS and they may give you additional updates. i did and they wont cause they are working on fixing the issue so they see no point in giving me more updates :/ |
| #22rinehartNov 06, 2010 2:16:47 | still no update on this yet from there tech department :/ |
| #23azirithNov 10, 2010 11:31:26 | Just bumping the topic, as I'm still having the same issues - is anyone else? |
| #24rinehartNov 14, 2010 1:49:26 | Azirith are you from snakes and berrels? lol |
| #25JhariiNov 14, 2010 4:36:46 | These suggestions did not resolve the issue for me. What is the status of the issue? There has not been a response in 3 weeks.Hey everyone, |
| #26rubicantxNov 20, 2010 14:58:01 | I had this problem with the CB. Stalled at 99.99% forever. Here's what to get it to work: Uninstall .Net 3.5 sp1 Set Adventure Tools to run as admin Run AT and click update, it will install .NET 3.5 sp1 then update the AT progam. It's odd that worked for me because before I did this with the CB I had uninstalled then re-installed .net 3.5 sp1 from the MS site. |
| #27searforge_agentDec 14, 2010 18:30:36 | I'm having the same problem. In the process of installing, uninstalling, fighting w/ .NET and trying again, I've maxed out my limit for updates. This is pretty unacceptable. UPDATE - WoC was kind enough to forward me a help document and give me three more updates, but despite going through the document point-by-point and trying other recommendations, still nothing. What a fine example of DRM making a product more trouble than it's worth. Here's what I'm running: Windowns XP SP 1 in a Virtual Box window in OS X - Snow Leopard Firewalls and anti-virus software turned off in both OS X and XP Here's what I did: I uninstalled .NET 4.0 and .NET 3.5 I uninstalled Adventure Tools. I reinstalled .NET 3.5 SP1 I deleted all Wizards of the Coast files in the program files, user files, and registry. I rebooted Windows XP I deleted all temporary internet files and cookies I logged in to DDI on the wizards.com website using IE. I downloaded the Adventure Tools Downloader I ran the Adventure Tools Downloader. I checked and double-checked the program files for read-only status. I ran Adventure Tools as admin. I ran the update. It locked up at 100%. |
| #28pyrothropeDec 18, 2010 10:09:02 | I'm having the same problem, it's very frustrating. At first the launcher window just froze up when I tried to update it, so I looked on here and tried following the suggestions of uninstalling .NET 4.0. It helped a little. The launcher started updating. But then the progress bar got to the very end and stopped. Says it's still trying to download the update, but from what I can tell it's doing nothing. Been like that for about an hour now. I'm running Vista btw. |
| #29pyrothropeDec 19, 2010 9:29:29 | Okay, so during my last attempt at getting this thing to work, the bar got to 100%, then stopped and did nothing, so I closed the downloader and started it up again... Now it tries to install the files that were downloaded, but tells me that the files are "unverifiable". Lovely. I'm sorry but this is unacceptable. I paid for a month subscription two days ago, and still haven't been able to get the part that I'm most interested in to work! And from what I can tell, absolutely no word from Wizards for a fix. Goes to show how much they care about their customers. |
| #30organicveggieJan 02, 2011 14:50:29 | Same problem here. Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit. First time I installed Adventure Tools, it said it was downloading the data update but there was no network activity. I let it run for hours and eventually it got to 100%, but nothing changed. I uninstalled Adventure Tools. Uninstalled .NET Framework (SP1). Reinstalled Adventure Tools. Launched it. Started downloading the update. This time it showed network activity and the download progressed very rapidly. After the progress bar filled up the network activity stopped, but nothing else happened. So I installed Adventure Tools and the .NET 3.5 Framework (SP1) again. Re-downloaded Adventure Tools as of 1/2/2011. Launched the installer as administrator. Launched Adventure Tools as administrator. Same thing - progress bar fills up and then nothing happens. Meanwhile I can't even launch the tool itself - the button is disabled. Why do I need to apply an update when I just downloaded it? Very very disappointing and very frustrating. |
| #31tipforgeJan 30, 2011 20:32:10 | I don't understand where WotC Customer Service is on this issue. I still can't use a tool I'm paying for, and now they expect me to update my subscription again? WHEN WILL THIS BE FIXED? |
| #32JhilahdApr 21, 2011 17:53:28 | And now... I can't even get in it to print out some of my modified minions. Booo |
