You can click on the compendium Icon to bring up the monster stat block and use a screen clip to cut in paste it into an encounter document. Evaluate the different combinations of monsters. The encounter builder does the math for working out the numbers of monsters/ traps to include. Which is useful to a point and lets you print the number of monsters and setup and tactics. I still find I'm doing a lot of manual things. Screen clipping the monster stats so I have them handy in an encounter print out. Making up initiative cards for each monster type. Looking up and noting DC's for monster Lore from MM and MMII etc. It would be nice if all of this could be included in the Adventure tools. So Custom monsters could be included too. Even if the online encounter builder included the Monster stat blocks via its links and perhaps the relevant Lore text into the final encounter print. This could even be an option so users could decide if they want the monster stats included or not. It would save a lot of time for DM's. |

Great that its a quick way to scale encounters (my group has a hard time meeting regularly so we often play on with a less than optimal number of PCs). Not so great that after building the encounter you still need to go look the monsters up in your books or in the compendium. An "encounter builder" ought to format and print out the stat blocks. Its barely useful without that. Hopefully coming soon... |
