Dragon changes haven't bothered me as much but Dungeon is truly sad now. |
| #2ImruphelNov 22, 2010 22:59:03 | While I'm happy that Scales of War is over (it really proved that the total absence of adventure and adventure path design skills evident from the appalling series, Keep on the Shadowfell through to something about Orcus, was no fluke), I'm incredibly browned off by one adventure every two to three months but with space taken up by two or three delves each month instead. Dungeon should be renamed Delve until it has content once again. |
| #3Dragon9Nov 22, 2010 23:56:57 | Yeah, Dungeon went downhill when they started bumping actual adventures in favor of wasting 2-5 pages on an encounter or some mini-delve. The Chaos Scar is so much wasted space. Bring back adventures. It might get me to resubscribe. (that and realizing this whole Essentials thing was a crappy idea and goign back to classic 4e). |
| #4Style75Nov 26, 2010 20:31:51 | I think the last few months of Dungeon have been great. The latest Chaos scar adventures are much better than the first ones, the Dark Sun content has been excellent, and this months adventure "Lord of the White Field" is truly excellent. I've been really happy with dungeon and in fact after the CB fiasco it's one of the few reasons I still subscribe to DDI. The problems with these digital mags is that you can't please everyone. When they did Scales of War, some people complained and wanted Delves. Then they did Delves and some people complained and wanted adventure paths. There will always be someone complaining, but go read the reviews for the individual articles and you'll see plenty of positive comments. |
| #5AegeriNov 29, 2010 6:51:18 | "Lord of the White Field" is one of the best Dungeon adventures in months with a "period" on the end there. The dungeon delve adventures have all been pretty terrible in general, but finally Lord of the White Field is what we should be seeing more of, more often. It's truly great. But unfortunately we'll be back to terrible delves with dungeon tile maps, instead of excellent long adventures with interesting new cartography. The Chaos Scar adventures would be okay if it wasn't for the fact we now have billions of heroic tier adventures and nothing in paragon/epic just about. We could afford to give the Chaos Scar a good rest for a while in favor of some paragon/epic tier adventures. |
| #6mikronDec 09, 2010 23:42:46 | Does anybody know if the Chaos Scar will be continued? |
| #7HuscarlDec 10, 2010 16:20:31 | We'll continue doing Chaos Scar material, but not every month. Steve |
| #8The_JesterDec 10, 2010 19:07:37 | I like the new direction of Dragon and the fewer power-of-the-week articles, but Dungeon continues to unimpress. But then, I never liked Dungeon as I seldom run published adventures. Dragon has great stuff for different types of players but there's still little to Dungeon unless you want an adventure or get a little expansion on the many campaign worlds (which I do kinda like, but don't use). Dungeon, now the DM magazine, should have varied content aimed at DMs. The optional rules (Unearthed Arcana) feature is one great idea for that and I'm hoping we see more of that soon. |
| #9hunterian7Dec 30, 2010 11:51:13 | Dungeon Magazine does seem skimpy- not deminished, just less. I miss articles like the Demonicon, Codex of Betrayal & the Court of Stars. Online in Dragon Magazine how they separate Essential material from Players Handbook with the icons -pleasing to those who loved organized material. I've been on the fence about dropping DDinsider but not because of the material. The demise of minis makes me sad. Pogs are the only thing keeping me interested. |
| #10lokiareDec 30, 2010 14:46:45 | I agree. If I want a dungeon delve, I can throw a compelling one together on the fly while I DM. I want well thought out adventures where the players have more choices to the outcome than "we win" or "we lose". How bout some dynamic changes. Here is a simple idea: A powerful lord of the undead Zargathon(non-E Necromancer) is gathering the twelve skulls of the Ancient Kings so that through dark magic he can rule the armies of the twelve cities. The players are tasked with stopping him. The goal of the adventure is to gather as many of the skulls as they can before Zargathon. In the end if they gather no skulls they must face an all powerful Zargathon, if they gather a few skulls they must stop a less powerful Zargathon, if they get all but one skull Zargathon flees promising to return one day with death himself on his side. Each skull grants Zargathon a power he can use in combat and allow him to control 1-3 undead in the final battle or allows him to set more undead up in his lair. The skulls are all guarded by different things, one is guarded by the royal family, another is guarded by a priesthood, yet another has been captured by a tribe of orcs or gnolls, a few more are in dungeons, etc etc... Some would require roleplaying and non-combat action to retrieve others would be a mini-delve... Just a thought. If you like that check my sig there's more... |
