#1 harana Jul 20, 2009 18:52:58	Me and my DM are currently disscussing a few issues concerning the spell Alter Self. My 8th lvl Human Mage is trying to use Alter Self to turn inito a winged elf, or Avariel, from Races of Faerun. Under the Alter Self spell discription, it says that you gain the mundane movements of the creature you are turning into, and later it says that you do not gain the exceptional abilities of the creature you are turning into except where noted above. Under the Avariel racial description, it has the EX tag next to the description of their flying. I am basically wondering if you would gain the Avariel's fly speed with the spell Alter Self.
#2 dalzig Jul 20, 2009 21:26:48	Flight of the Avariel is an extraordinary ability. Alter Self specifically denies you extraordinary abilities of your new form, outside of certain exceptions. One of those exceptions is flight with wings. So, assuming that you can choose Avariel as a form to change into with Alter Self, then you would indeed gain the flight ability.
