A month ago 1 person mentioned the Kindle.

I would especially love it if it had the 3.0 and 3.5 books.

The number of times I've gone looking for a rule in the PHB and then realize later it's in the DMG or MM (for example: poison stat damage recovery).

It would be nice to have one search box to type into and it would find the rule, no matter which book it was in.

I don't care about lack of color, I just need to be able to quickly find and read the rules. (Printing out small chunks, like the details of complex spells for player spell books would be very nice.)

I personally have a Sony reader, and had a Sony LibriƩ before that. The LibriƩ had a qwerty pad like the kindle does. They are great for novel reading, but the current level of e-paper technology makes searching not very user friendly.

Whether I am gaming online or on a table, I game with a laptop, and I have purchased a few PDF books, but usually I am searching on the online SRD.

Granted I can use Acrobat to search all open PDF files too so that is similar, but I don't own THAT many PDF files. Though I expect to in 4e.

Bought the kindle. It's awesome.
Downloaded some PDF versions of the 4.0 books and tried converting but they don't convert well due to the messed up layouts WOTC makes of their books instead of just free flowing text.

I use pdf's on my tablet, and search that way.

I bought it used, so I actually it's cheaper than the kindle...
Helluva lot shorter battery though. :p

I suspect you can do a hell of a lot more with the tablet tho.

If I received a kindle for free, I'm still not sure I'd use it.

Talk to me when its color and natively supports PDF..a.nd if I had to buy it, drop $200

it can do pdf,s but it converts them into a free flow text document and it doesn't work well for things formatted like reference books. Charts and images get all out of alignment.

The big benefit of the kindle is the fact it's easier to read than a book and the battery life. You won't get that with color. the display doesnt use power when it's not doing anything.

native support for pdf the way they look would be nice but honestly i doubt it will ever happen since pdfs rarely ever fit on a huge screen as 1 page nevermind a small screen.

I own a Sony Reader. Love that thing. Read tons of books on it. But.. none of the ebook devices are really made for reference books, which is what D&D books are. Sure, if you want to read a D&D novel, get an e-ink device. If you want to have some fast and easy way to get information.. don't.

The search is NOT fast, the page rendering is a second or two per page, etc. It's not BAD for reading.. but it's not useful for research.

Talk to me when color screen ebook devices can last over a week on battery and come with a lifetime no-fee subscription to an online network accessible by Sprint cell phone towers.

I prefer the kindle because of all that, anyday.
