Any fun ideas for Dragon/Dungeon?

I’m a big fan of Dragon/Dungeon.  Lately, the ezines have felt kinda ho-hum.  Here’s how I might make Dragon/Dungeon ‘fun’ again.

I’d love to see the return of the Campaign Workshop articles.  Stuff like ‘101 things you might find in a wizard’s laboratory’, ‘10 cons to watch out for’, ’10 ways to start a tavern brawl’.  This kinda stuff never seems to go outta style in fantasy settings and games.

I’d love to see webcomics, either a single lengthy feature or smaller multiple comics.  Some might be serious, some for laughs, or even a mixture of the two.  ‘Goblins’ and ‘The Order of the Stick’ are two solid examples of D&D inspired webcomics; there are, of course, many others that I’m not aware of.  A lengthy feature might entail the hiring of a more expensive artist/writer, while smaller features might keep the payroll low.  There are advantages and drawbacks either way.

In a similar vein, how about animated toons?  We’ve already seen a few excellent ones on-site.  Whatever happened to that fella anyway?

I already enjoy Dungeoncraft, Save My Game, even Confessions once in a while ;).  I just think there’s more that can be included in the way of smaller, ‘friendly’ articles.

And finally, how about a rotating series that features content for the various D&D worlds (Forgotten Realms, Eberron, Dark Sun).  Don’t guess I need to say that D/D is the perfect place to support these settings.

I end up rambling (despite my best efforts) but in essence, I envision Dragon/Dungeon as the place to turn to for fun, informative content.  Short, friendly articles, webcomics, setting supplements, DM advice, even some fiction pieces.  All in support of D&D of course.  I’d love to hear the ideas and thoughts of others, how you might make the ezines ‘fun’ again.

Here's a few more ideas:  It's been two years now (?) since the launch of Forgotten Realms for 4e.

"Hey guys and gals!  Rest assured, we've not forgotten the Realms, even in the face of the newest D&D world, Dark Sun (releasing later this month).  In the Forgotten Realms Player's Guide we discussed several classes and races and how they appeared in the setting.  That was back before Player's Handbook 2 and 3 were released.  This month in Dungeon we'll be updating the original info with new info for the races of PH 2 and PH 3.  For instance, Devas were covered only in brief, now you'll get a bigger picture; githzerai (from PH 3) get similar treatment.'

Yes, I typed that up right off the tip of my head.  Its not in any way 'good copy'-- I'm not really trying here ;).  Still, the message should be clear.  Let's hear from the folks of WotC themselves.  If the Forgotten Realms Campaign Guide were released today, how might you cover the classes seen in future Player Handbooks?  Revisit those original pages in a new light as it were.

I might change the look of the ezines to give them a more pronounced fantasy feel.  These are ezines inspired by Dragons and Dungeons ;), shouldn't they look the part?  The plain, vanilla white doesn't really do it for me.

I'm just throwing out ideas here.  I'd love to hear from others.  What would you suggest for adding a bit of fun to the ezines?  Unearthed Arcana style articles are a start.  They should help shake up the format that the Character Builder has been holding the most recent articles to.  I think there's more that can be done.  How about you?

I'd love to see a more personalized response letter to submissions, particularly if a submission is going to be rejected fairly quickly. I've got several things I'm working on, I'd like to know pretty early on if they won't ever make the cut.

Get rid of the Chaos Scar and put in, you know, real adventures.

oh, I like the CS adventures. I'm looking forward to having a complete collection one day.

However, I think that a much better idea may be to create continuing adventures as follow-ons for the D&D encounters seasons. That could be much more enjoyable because I'm creating a collection of DDE adventures that will always be viable.

I understand that Scales of War had some issues, but another complete adventure path would be really nice to see develop.

One of the troublesome elements of the published adventures is the certain lack of player interest. Sometimes the players just don't get hooked in and the published material has to go on a back burner. Sure, I can use portions, but not the entire adventure as written. So, it doesn't save much time overall.

So, a larger variety of hooks being developed could create published adventures that are more useful in a wide variety of groups.

This. While I was hardly the biggest fan of certain other aspects of Paizo's run with the magazines, I find myself missing the days of being able to get my hands on three new (and complete) adventures each month, whether to run wholesale or just to pillage bits and pieces from. Any putz can toss together an infinite treadmill of throwaway level 1 encounters. Give me something with actual substance.
