Anyone else not impressed with the Emags?

So after a week of releases, we've gotten one good article, and the rest all sub standard.

One was REALLY late being released.

To me it feels like this content isn't made to be paid for like the old dungeon and dragon articles, these all feel like the hastily made web articles, extras, info, and asides that WotC used to put on their page for free not more than four months ago. Almost every adventure they released had a web extra that went with it for free, now suddenly this web extra is called Dungeon or Dragon material, and we will have to pay for it?

I disagree. I am impressed with the quality and content of them.
Which one was REALLY late? The monday one was released on Friday and the Wednesday was wednesday evening but still on a wednesday.

I agree with Rhianni32 that the content has been good, but I am rather dissapointed with Dungeon vs Dragon. Dragon has produced three articles that interest me and I can see finding ways to use in my games (especially because I am a Warforged-aholic). Dungeon, on the other hand, just took up three articles to convert the first module to two worlds and make it longer. Not thrilling to me.

I fall in the category of disappointed thus far. I leaf through some of my old issues and then cruise through the content here on the website that is supposed to replace it and I just sigh. Two great magazines have died to give birth to this monstrosity, a permanent black mark against WOTC.

Dungeon has certainly gotten the short end of the stick, which is a shame considering they want to encourage people to play, yet they haven't provided DM's the resources. No 1st level adventure, in fact no adventures, just an add on to one they have to buy. Dropped the ball there I feel.

The articles look good, but they arent of a caliber that I would give money for at this point. web enhancements of products you have to buy should be free IMO.

But none the less they do look good

What Dungeon doesn't release in quantity it will release in quality. Look at the TOC of each.

Dragon has more content by article but less pages per article.

Dungeon on the other hand has fewer articles but more page count for each.

Both will be about 80 pages per month.

I just looked at a 40+ page adventure that will go out soon (Monday I think) for Dungeon and it looks awesome.

I liked the Emags and the quality was good, they are slow to start but Rouse mentioned a lot more are coming next week so I look forward to that.

Now being they were free currently... I would say I was impressed with the Emags, once I start paying... then I will let you know my thoughts.

Then let me pose this question to you..

What content will WotC release for free now?

With all their content going into Dragon and Dungeon, and for people paying for that content, what will they be releasing for free additional content like they use to do?

Scott, thanks for the reply. But, it is another marketing goof by you guys.

You need to set expectations, on the site, about what people should expect. This really shouldn't be that hard.

I also agree that at launch, you should have had all kinds of tools out there for DMs to use, especially an adventure that didn't feature kobolds

As to the OP: I disagree. The dungeon conversion article was three articles in one compared to the old days, and the conversions were the best conversions I've ever seen (i've been buying the mags since the '80's, plus the Dragon CD). The Dragon articles have been good. No better than Jacobs' great articles, but certainly no worse. Plus, they mix fluff and crunch better than the Paizo articles did (so far).

I have to be honest in that I don't care about the conversion articles. I wont be buying the module ever, especially after seeing that it should have been a hard cover instead of a $35 folder that resembles the ones I buy my daughter around back to school time. Original content is what I want, and fluffy stuff like 100 Tavern Names and such.

As someone who pretty much left the game around 1985, and only recently returned for 4E (and DnDi ), I have to say that I find the quality very impressive. I definitely think it will be one of the worthier efforts in D&Di. Then again, I guess I can't really compare it to the old print publications having never picked one up, ever (seriously!).

Having said that, could someone explain to me why there are two magazines in the first place? Is one geared toward DMs, and one towards Players? A bit embarrassing to even ask, so please be gentle.

Yes dragon is for the players and dungeon is for the DM's, both good amgazines, and for hte original poster, you cannot make a judgement yet on the quality, the first issue isnt even done yet. we still have 3 weeks left to see the rest. As for me i have never read either magazine, and with this will probably read a few areticles here and their but it doesnt interest me much anyway.

I find the magazines so far to be of pretty high quality. The Warforged article was top notch, and I like the conversions of Keep on the Shadowfell. Though, I do dislike how much more flavor was put into the FR version over the Eberron version.

The only thing that really disappoints me about the articles is how sporadically they're being released. No way will I pay even for this content unless some frequent schedule (Like MWF) can be met.

I have a few Dungeons from an eBay purchase, and they were some interesting adventures. While one may be 40 pages long, right now it needs to do what I think I recall from 3rd edition transition.

Walk people into the game. Give level 1 adventures that show how the game works. KotS seems riddled with errors form what people say because it was printed prior to the completion of the actual rules, so now would be the opportune time to actually help people play.

To be quite honest the maps are nice and all, but people also need printable maps. Not everyone can afford to give a map as a handout to players with all the vector graphics and full colors from their own printer.

Anyway, people should be seeing adventures geared towards the level of charactes they should be dealing with. For new players that would be 1st level. Since this is a whole new game, that would make everyone new players.

You don't need quantity of 40 pages to make a good adventure, just a quality adventure that actually helps the players out when they need one.

And waht about user adventures? Are fan creations a thing of the past of Dungeon and Dragon?
