Are the servers down, or is that just what it says when you cancel update and try again?

I'm trying to update, and getting nowhere fast. I've canceled twice after it stalled for 30 minutes; and I get the "servers unavailable message" now. Are they actually unavailable, or is that just the message that pops up when you cancel?

It's not that big a deal, really. Just curious if they're actually down or if it's just me.

Yep all day it said the servers were down....well now because I attempted to update 5 times, I am now locked out because it says I exceeded my limit.

Very disappointing.....emailed Customer Service but now I might have to wait up to 2 days to get it corrected. Yell

We have identified an issue that may cause your computer to think the servers are down, even when they are up: check your local time and hour setting, and if they are not set to the right date, update the system date.

Other possible issues can be firewall blocking access to our servers or issues with your connection itself.

Your key limit will only be incremented when you sign up with your D&D Insider account. If your computer was seeing the servers being down, you probably could not use the Update button, and as such any attempt to update in that circumstance would not have consumed any of your key usage. If you have seen the page after the sign up (the EULA), and started the download, and for any reasons your connection got lost in the meantime, you can use the Repair button by using the link "Having problems" in the updater window.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the replies - what was happening was this (and I didn't start trying it until around 4PM Eastern time):

1. Start CB. It finds the update, says, "You want dis?"

2. I say "Yeah I want cheesy poofs!" and click the get update button, supplying necessary credentials and so forth.

3. Update stalls for 30 minutes. I hit cancel, try again. Stalls for 30 minutes again. Hit cancel, and it goes to a message about the servers being down and to try back.

So I suspect the servers weren't actually down when I was trying this, but when the download stalled out, it panicked (or defaulted) and threw the "Servers are down" message.

It's a moot point now - I tried a fourth time and walked away for an hour or so to eat dinner; when I came back it was done (I have no idea how long it actually took).

The "Repair" button is grayed out - not able to click on it.

Even disabled my firewall and I still get same message I have exceeded my limit

There may have been a lot of people downloading at the same time as you, this will sometimes make the download take much longer.
