I know that the 4th makes a big (even the biggest so far) difference between PC and NPC (and monsters) but I don't understand why the Umbral Savage Ogre's greatclub attack deals "only" 2d10+3 with a str of 21... any comments ? did you change this in your game ? my caracters reached the 6th level before they entered the umbralforge and,as far as I can see, there is no real challenge for them overthere... |

It's supposed to be an interesting fight with terrain issues and a bunch of atmosphere, so if the PCs aren't challenged to within an inch of their lives, that's okay. On the other hand, the ogres have reach 2 and can do a push-and-knock-prone with that attack, opening up the opportunity for the other one (and their other allies) to attack the prone opponent; their allies have an entangling attack, so a particularly pesky fighter can be pushed, proned and immobilized, then ignored until he breaks free while the ogres do truly unfortunate things to other PCs. In the long run, how much damage the bad guys do in 4E is much less important than how much they can mess with the PC's strategies. |
