| #1atrasDec 11, 2009 16:38:41 | I have an 18 INT Artificer who uses a +1 Thunder Wand, which gives him the Wizard At-Will Thunderwave once per encounter. At level 4, the power card for Thuderwave says "Unarmed: +6 attack, 1d6+5 damage" The +6 is 4 from INT, 2 from level, and the damage is 4 from INT, 1 from the wand's property. Why wouldn't the +1 enhancement bonus be showing up? |
| #2melosDec 12, 2009 0:00:22 | If you MC to Wizard the bonus shows up. Maybe you need to be able to use Wizard implements in order to use an implement with Wizard powers. |
| #3atrasDec 12, 2009 23:33:31 | Maybe you need to be able to use Wizard implements in order to use an implement with Wizard powers. That's what is so odd. Artificers are wand users, so the bonus should be there without multiclassing. |
| #4xcaliberDec 15, 2009 11:55:25 | I encountered a similiar situation with my Artificer and a Wand of Fireburst. I *think* the issue is that while an Artificer is a Wand user, they are unable to use Wizard powers with a Wand. Kinda lame, but I think correct by a strict RAW interpretation. I'd certainly be happy to be proven wrong though! ![]() |

| #7xcaliberJan 14, 2010 8:34:53 | Any follow up on this? I'm curious what the official rules position is? |
| #8atrasJan 21, 2010 13:11:41 | I keep forgetting to double-check this... |
| #9melosJan 21, 2010 13:58:52 | I am pretty sure this is working correctly according to the rules. Artificers are only allowed to use their implements for artificer powers or PP powers, not wizard powers. You would need to use something like Arcane Implement Proficiency, or multiclassing to gain the use of an implement with wizard powers. Eberron Players Guide: An artificer wielding a magic rod, staff, or wand can add its enhancement bonus to the attack rolls and the damage rolls of artificer powers, as well as artificer paragon path powers, that have the implement keyword. |
| #10atrasJan 21, 2010 15:43:57 | That's a good point, except that the Player's Handbook has this (page 225): Magic weapons and implements grant their enhancement bonus to attack rolls and damage rolls only when you use powers delivered through the weapon or the implement (or directly from the weapon or the implement, for items that have attack powers). On the flip side, there is also: Each class description in Chapter 4 indicates which implements (if any) a character of that class is allowed to use when delivering powers. So the Implement section of the class' summary block just says that they can use the implements, and in the description of the class (I just checked, and the Warlock has the same sort of text that you referenced) specifies that the use applies just to the class' powers. I think this is probably working as intended, but that really kind of stinks, especially at later levels when you really need that enhancement bonus to keep up with the defenses of enemies. I guess these power implements are really only meant for early levels. |
