With all the gnashing of teeth over the move to an online only character builder there is an excellent opportunity for a low cost useful tool that will restore most of what's been lost without going back to the offline CB.  What is needed is the following: 1) Get the export feature up and running for the new CB. 2) A suite of character viewers for different platforms such as Windows, Mac, iPhone, Andriod that don't do much more than provide an interface to the (XML is probably easiest) character and his powers and for fun add a random number generator and tracking for: Powers, HPs, Surges, Magic item dailies, etc. The viewer app would be easy to develop for several/many platforms, maintains your IP (online CB), and eliminates most of the complaints about the lack of the offline builder.  Forget laptops at the table (except maybe the DM) and instead you could have smaller electronic devices such as iPhones. 3) Last and most important is the viewers must be free.  Because the viewer isn't much use without a subscription (or a member of a group that has one to make updates) it becomes a reasonable PR investment. If you already have something like this planned, you should move it up the priority list as a measure of faith to the community over the recent mess.  If you don't have this planned feel free to steal this idea and use it soon.
