Dec 06, 2008 10:29:29 I guess we officially have an out of print issue of Dragon and Dungeon. Has anybody seen anything about the purchase of back issues?

Still, it surprises me they didn't have this in place well before Insider ever launched. To me, it serves as yet another indication that WotC has been behind the curve, in over their heads, doesn't know what they're getting into [pick your euphemism] with Insider.

Not trying to be negative but I'm not really filled with confidence for the future of Insider. I would like for it to succeed (really, I would); if for no other reason than the ezines. It would be a shame if Dragon/Dungeon were allowed to flounder into obscurity after so many years.

It's nice they've made the (temporary) decision to allow first-time subscribers access to the entire back-issue collection. For one thing, it's a show of good will to customers (and they can use all they can get IMHO).

I am not sure if new subscribers will get access to back issues after fee. I read the barest minimum in what was said. When it was announced that back issue would be taken offline there was expressed concern about a fee payer not having access to them without going though special request, there were comments that did not like the idea. The revised policy stated is that the back issues will remain online without having to go to CustServ to request a copy. What was not said is a new subscriber would have access to back issues. Oh it clearly is possible, however time stamp could be used to limit access to back issues if time was not paid for. The ability to code paid time clearly exists, however until a new subscriber tries to access a back issue and reports results we (or at least I) do not know if they can get something they did not pay for.

We will I am sure find out soon how it will work for now.

I believe with the ezines, you should be save. the tools suite is an entirely different beast. they have programmers who delude themselves into thinking they are experienced, when their last 6-10 years of professional experience was design of m:tg and d&d. The CB was close to ready at DDXP, near to its release on gencon, and will be released "very early next year" - all statements who all plans and statements that failed. the CB is a far easier application than the gametable, and it will be finished about one year late. the gametable was said to be done last, which leaves its release schedule around 2015 at the given pace. (2009 cb, 2010 visualizer, 1012 dungeon builder?)

the current state is:
a) they don't want to give back issues to newer subscribers, that's why their original intent was to take them down after the month.
b) they don't have a system in place to enforce this, and current focus is on the CB, so
c) they currently allow anyone who has a subscription to download everything that was posted under the DDI-closed content, because else it would make some unhappy customers.
