Minimally, put a radio button on the screen to allow those who want to add material that the DM has not had time to review automatically and for those who want to check it out first, let them add it once they approve it. 2) Automatically changing what I have selected. If I have Players Handbook selected in Campaign Settings, don't unselect it or partially unselect it because I selected something else. What a pain in the butt. I cannot select what I want if the software is going to select and unselect material for me. Let ME decide. Stop deciding for me because I don't want that crap in my campaign. 3) Drop Downs. Don't automatically drop down stuff for me. When you have dozens of dozens of drop downs, and dozens and dozens of entries per drop down, it means that I have to go through many screens of them to get where I want to go. As an example, feats. Have NONE of the feat drop downs automatically open for me. That way, I can quickly go to the feat drop down that I want to open, not the one you want to open for me, and I can open it. If the Racial feat drop down and the Class feat drop down and a half a dozen other feat drop downs are automatically open, it takes a while to get to the Paragon feat drop down or the Armor feat drop down. If you automatically close them instead, I can in seconds go to the one I want and open it myself. Instead, it takes time to scroll through all of the open stuff I don't want to go to. Ditto for powers. As you add more and more material, you have to stop giving people auto-features because the auto-features are not omnipotent. They actually slow down the user and frustrate the user instead of helping the user. Organize it and then let the user pick what he wants to go do. Stop trying to guess what the user wants to do because your software guesses are wrong 90+% of the time. |
| #2karinsdadSep 18, 2010 23:24:36 | As an additional issue, the Campaign Settings page has so MANY items listed and it takes about a second or two for it to remove each one of them, it takes a LONG time to go through an entire list and remove or add content. Instead, you should have multiple tabs, or a single page with a drop down that allows the user to pick different types of content to choose from, and a single check box to remove all content of that type. For example, have a Dragon Magazine Campaign Settings page that allows the user to either select individual Dragon Magazine content, or to select a single check box to remove all Dragon Magazine content. Ditto for RGPA, Dungeon Magazine, books beyond core, etc. Have a button to either auto-add all new content, or auto-do not add all new content. I don't want to go in every single time an update comes out and remove new content from my PCs for a campaign that already has set defined content. This makes the software harder to use. The design of the software has to keep up with the quantity of content. Stop making decisions for your customers and stop making the software more difficult for the customers to use. |
