Baldur's Gate/Icewind Dale character portraits

Nov 10, 2008 17:39:25 Just got done with my first spin of the character creator and I'm very pleased with it. When I was going through the character portraits it got me to thinking; does anyone know a place where I can get the character portraits from the Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale games? They had some nice character portraits. I think it'd be great to see them in the full version. I'm not sure if there'd be any licensing issues with this though.

Neverwinter Nights portraits weren't bad either come to think of it.

Nov 10, 2008 19:12:10 We are going to improve the default images for the full versoin, we just put some temporary stuff in for the beta.

I don't know about the old Baldur's gate stuff though, I don't know if it would match the 4E style.

Nov 10, 2008 19:21:16 The way it is set up you can just drop images, or folders of images, into the character portraits folder (which exists in your system Pictures folder, My Pictures under XP).

Aug 04, 2009 4:49:04 I too am looking for Icewind Dale portraits, one in particular that was not part of the full release images. One of the pics for a gnome or halfling, I've never been sure which, but I used it for my halfling. He is looking rather dapper in a white shirt with black pants. Ever since Icewind Dale that image has been my defining view of the character, but I can't seem to get the pic out of Icewind Dale 1 or 2, it isn't part of the CB portraits, and I can't seem to find it anywhere online either.

Download the two .rar files (you need both as they are linked). Unrar them. Install the portraits to a handy folder.

They are in .tga format so this may help you browse the files in explorer:

I believe the file you are looking for is:

po_m_d_10_iwd.tga

I then downloaded IrfanView: http://www.irfanview.com/ which can convert the .tga to .png and then deleted all the (slightly dodgy) fan art pictures from cmd window (del *cep2*.png)

I then copied all the images into My Pictures/ddi/Character Portraits/Sample Portraits.

Robert is your mother's brother.
