Please remove all the workspace columns and especially all of the information about what different powers do at different levels. None of that information is useful when actually playing the game. And "Power Cards" are only helpful to people who use them. Which I don't. They are a huge waste of space and there are no options to reduce them to the two or three lines of text that they should actually be. The most recent D&D Game Day character sheets are BEAUTIFUL! Everything I need to know about a 6th level character on the front/back of a half sheet of paper. And half of the front is a picture! All that said, I'm very impressed with the program you all have put together. I just wish the output was condensed to about 10% of what it is now.

| #3ShermanSep 13, 2009 2:19:36 | Not true. I've broken the character sheet down as much as possible, I think I know the limitations, but if I'm wrong please point me to where I can fix what I think is wrong with the character sheet output. You're still stuck with three or four useless numbers for every useful one. D&D 4e has done a marvelous job of making crunching numbers a background chore. You don't need to know where anything comes from like you did in 3e. It doesn't matter that you add half your level and an armor bonus and a feat bonus and a magic bonus and a whatever bonus. All that matter is what your final AC is. That's one number. Your defenses should be four numbers (one for each) and take up an according amount of space on your character sheet. Everything else just makes the important stuff harder to find, either because it adds to the clutter or because you have more than the half page of useful information you need to flip though. If you can get your hands on a copy of one of the D&D characters for this Saturday please take a look at that and you'll see what I would like to see for my character sheet... |
| #4ShermanSep 18, 2009 2:55:38 | Just showed the character sheets for Saturday's D&D game day to a bunch of people today and everyone agreed that those are amazing and that Character Builder would do well to make output like that. The only point of contention was whether or not having only those skills that the character is skilled in listed is a good idea or not. I'm all for it personally. The simplicity, utility and beauty of those sheets is amazing! |

| #6ShermanSep 19, 2009 17:44:44 | No, not remotely. You mean the character initiative card or whatever? Still need skills, weapon attacks, equipment, etc... Really it just needs to have everything reduced by about 75%. The character sheets are just hold overs from pencil and paper gaming (which I've been doing for 29 years, so I'm not opposed in general). My issue is that I don't need all the figuring that I can't change during a game anyway. Seems like a character sheet that just allows me to play the game is all that is needed. I can optimize and look at options on the computer at home. Doesn't have to be spelled out in such laborious detail for when I'm playing. For instance, my 1st level character doesn't care that attacks increase in damage at 21st level... Probably won't ever care for that matter. All I want to see is less clutter. |
