#1 nightwalker450 Feb 24, 2011 11:15:19	I've been thinking of getting either a netbook, or tablet, basically something smaller than a laptop so it would have less of an impact at the table.  Whenever the laptop is open, I just feel like it builds a wall between myself and the DM/other players. So I was wondering what other people use, and how they feel about their experiences with them.  What's good, what's bad, and what could of been done just a bit better. Key Points: Character Builder functionality is not necessary, so please avoid that topic.  The character builder is just that, a builder, so its not something I need at the table my character should already be built at that time.  If you use some other app though that imports from the character builder though I'd be happy to hear about that.  Compendium functionality on the other hand is a definate plus, not necessary but a plus.  (I use Sylloge on my phone, but its far from ideal) iPlay4e Possibility, I'm already familiar with iPlay4e, I use it on my android phone, and my laptop.  So feel free to tell how this works on your device if you use it. Price, I'm hoping to have money left after bills with my tax return, but still if I want to get this approved by the wife I can't get too crazy. Online/Offline functionality 90% of the time, I can get a wifi connection, but for the other 10% of the time, if you have another option let me know. Anything Else I'll add here, if I see common comparisons appearing.
#2 tasiefer Feb 24, 2011 12:47:15	A few weeks ago I picked up a Nook Color from Barnes & Noble, then promptly rooted it and installed Android 2.2 (Froyo) on it. So now I have a wifi tablet w/ a capacitive screen that's running at 1.1 GHz and that only cost me $250. Now to go down your list: Compendium functionality - Doesn't work in a browser, but there's search apps available. iPlay4e - Obviously a big fan of iPlay4e, but the fullscreen view is not really usable on Android due to iframe scrolling issues outside of areutter's control. iPlay4e's mobile view works just fine, but doesn't make good use of the tablet's screen. KSheet is on the android market and works nicely, but again is designed for phones and doesn't make good use of the larger screen that a tablet affords. I've started writing my own character sheet app that does work better, but most likely won't release in the wild due to its niche use (large Android screens only). Price - No contest, the NC is a great little tablet for a really low price compared to most others. At least the ones that are usable. Online/Offline functionality - Shrug. KSheet doesn't require a connection. Almost everything else does.
#3 armyvetdm Feb 26, 2011 20:59:56	I use the iPad for all my D&D needs. The character builder does not work on it unless you install some sort of VNC client and can acess your home computer to get into it but since it's not a need for you I will say no more. The compendium is easily accessed on the iPad with a free app. iPlay4e works great on the iPad there are also character sheet apps in the app store that are made quite well. Price is about $500 The iPad of course has online capabilities and depending on what you use can be used offline in a snap. The other nice thing about the iPad is it does a very good job on PDF files so if you have D&D pdf files like dungeon or dragon magazines it gives a very clean, clear and crisp view of them and has the power to load each page very quickly. Overall its a very versitile device that I use for tons of stuff.
#4 nephelim Apr 25, 2011 7:05:38	I'm planning on picking up an Asus Transformer tomorrow.  Running Honneycomb, you get a 16GB tablet with a keyboard dock for those times that a decent keyboard is needed, IPS display (crazy-good viewing angles) with Gorilla glass, and 16 hour battery life (when docked) for $550. Possibly the only real issue is that its Wifi only, but with a jailbroken Androidphone or iphone, its easy enough to get online via wifi.
