| #1rachwededJul 13, 2010 10:11:35 | i have just had my group fo through the githyanki battles part of this module, the fights were great fun mostly and the whole group really enjoyed it. the last two the party had no short rest between them as they knew lives were being lost on the other side of the fortress (votes of 5 pcs one dmpc were 4 for 2 against no rest) group used to be 4 pcs and one dmpc but got a new player who will replace dmpc but wanted to do this after these fights, made no sense otherwise. new play is playing Tokk' it as a githzerai monk.
anyway point of this post is the assassin fight with Brann' ot. the adventure as written has this encounter happen during travel between fortress ak'ma ad and city of sayre but it is a level 12 fight when party are level 13 and the fight just is no challenge at all. 2 normal githyanki soldiers and a level 15 i think elite skirmisher with no real damage capacity...
(after a full rest etc)
where is the challenge?
so i fixed the assassin to make it more deadly, and added reinforcements to the fight. i added the following: 4 minions as per rest of adventure, one mindslicer (party hates the lose encounter and daily powers ability. especially as this stops healing powers), the usual 2 soldiers and finally another dragon rider(!) idea being dragon rider finss them and leads rest of them to pc's.
used map from the trollhaunt adventure pack but explained they were not in a cave just broken badlands.
made the following changes to brann'ot: added skirmish 2d8 if moved 4 squares away from starting position minor action shifty as per kobolds another minor action i found on monster builder attack vs will ranged +18 vs will on hit that pc grants CA and cannot willingly move towards monster (on defender) made the forceball at will only one target after all and added push 5 to this otherwise altered defences as suggested by the monster builder and went at it.
fight was great and on round 7 added Odos in at his initiative roll whereupon the assassin and dragon rider, all bloodied, fled for their lives.
so if anyone else thinks the encounter is pointless, except as closure on the escaped assassin situation, feel free to use above. now i'm deciding whether to add the assassin to telicanthus' manor somewhere and possibly level it up for a later module as a recurring assassin! |
| #3rachwededJul 17, 2010 1:32:51 | as i'm looking through the mansion combats i'm getting a bit bored of all the same enemies appearing as from the rest of the adventure (except mindslicers, my players REALLY hate them!) so looking through the adventure tools i'm noticing a ton of alternative monsters for the same level ranges and am going to supplement them instead.
