I am working on making MapTools maps for this adventure and I need to ask a question. In the encounter "The Gauntlet" there is a mention about the Iron Defenders moving to intercept a PC that goes for the "control panel." There is also a mention of a "control panel" in the crossbow trap description. However, there is no control panel located on the map. I have a blown up copy of both the encounter map and the overall vents/nexus map and there is nothing indicating the "control panel" that will turn the trap off.

Any ideas for those that have already run this? Where is it?

About half way down the right hand wall seems sensible.

I actually put it in the lower left corner of the first area, with the thought that if the defenses go haywire you don't want to be under heavy fire while you're trying to turn them off.

Bottom line: wherever it makes sense to you. You'll find there are a few such things you'll need to improvise throughout the path.

I put it right next to the door and my players were able to get to it, but in hindsight I think I should've a second secret control panel near the entrance so that the dwarves that built it could turn off the traps from either end.

I wrestled with that too. Eventually, I decided the "control panel" would be simply the pressure plates which set off the trap. However, I discovered that my PCs didn't actually care about disabling anything. They set off the trigger, and commenced breaking everything in the room. Control panel? What control panel?

My party is getting ready to have this encounter and I was thinking about placing a remote control panel on the back of the iron defender, just for kicks.

Actually, that is a very good idea. Kudos! I think I am going to set mine up that way with panels on both sides now.

the control panel can be any where, the traps etc do not attack dwarver after all so they never need to be turned off.
being on a defender is a good idea though i might do that.
my party has 2 dwarves so the remaining 3 party members are going to get hurt!!

I put it next to the exit door as well, made it hard to get to. The party finally realized they needed to disable it, and the Rogue was under heavy fire the whole time. The dwarf granted him cover at one point finally - they realized it wouldn't target him. Took a lot of damage in that room because no one listened when the Warlord said "Retreat". Well, not no one - he and the Warlock hid around the corner while the rest got beat up bad!

I had 6 players, so I added another Iron Defender....
