| #1blueheraldSep 03, 2009 15:09:23 | My 6+ year old PC gave up the ghost, and I was forced to buy a new one which has Vista on it, so if any of the problem listed below is caused by my Vista-ignorance, I apologize. I have a 32 bit machine/Vista so I am sure this is not a 64 buit issue. I have an active DDI subscription. I downloaded Character Builder from scratch on to this new machine. I was logged into the homepage when I did it. I used the download link at www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/inside... to get 700_DDI_CB.exe Character Builder installed itself, and attempted to get an update, asking me to supply my userid and password , all seemed normal. The update failed with a white on black message in the client area that the servers were down. I went on to use CB, attempting to rebuild an 8th level charater one level at a time. I cannot go past 3rd level as CB thinks it is the Demo version. Closing and reastarting CB, I do not even get the 'looking for update' screen, it goes rigtht to the splash page , with the September patch notes in the right hand 'window'. I have no idea if I really have the update. Trying to execute either CharacterBuilderUpdater.exe or RealCharacterBuilderUpdate.exe directly from the Wizards of the Coast\Character Builder folder gives a Windows errotr that they have 'stopped working'. If the update servers are really down, thats fine I can wait, but in the meantime 1) what do I need to do to get the full version re-installed, not the demo version? 2) how do I restore my ability to look for updates. ? |
