I need some help. My last session of Brodrin’s Watch did not go how I expected. The party went into the final encounter very hurt (down HP and VERY few healing surges) and should never have attempted the final encounter in the state they were in. Long story short, two of them died and two are now prisoners of Tusk, as is Kalad the Paladin. Now I’m stuck with what to do next. I’m pretty new to DM’ing 4E and have never been very good at dealing with situations like this. I’m working on this.

Any ideas or help with how to move forward with the adventures would be great.

Here are a few of my questions:
How would you handle a rescue attempt?
Should I
Should I have them play one of the other bands of adventures from the adventure?
They were all 4th level. If they make new PC’s, how do you deal with magic Items?

Thanks in advance for your help.

hello !

there are few way of getting your players out of this, but the most important point is to make them the actors of the rescue (in other words, don't just send some dwarves to rescue them)

that can be cool and simple. send this group against the nexus again, and find the prisonners not far away.

easy question. You'll find the answer in the DMG. the rule is 3 objects. 1 of character's level +1, 1 of character level, and 1 character level -1. Of course, If your actual caracter are less equiped than this, feel free to reduce those number.

When I ran the nexus, two or three members of my party died, the other two ran away. I had the freeriders come in and finish the job, and retrieve the corpses for a raise dead.

I'd suggest that you have your characters tied up and questioned back in an upper area, and the freeriders bust in and save your characters. The PCs will owe the freeriders one which plays well into future events in the path. The heroes can rest up and head back in, this time to finish the job.
