| #1dreadarchonFeb 11, 2009 14:43:49 | As of yesterday, I cannot open Dungeon and Dragon articles from the site (PDF's elsewhere work fine). I tried on Chrome, IE, and Firefox in 64-bit Vista, and Firefox in Ubuntu. I tried two different internet connections. This is happening with both new and old documents. Suggestions? |
| #2mudbunnyFeb 11, 2009 14:46:06 | What error does it give you? My first guess would be to tell you to delete all your cookies and temporary internet files and restart your computer. If that doesn't work, I would contact WotC CS. |
| #3dreadarchonFeb 18, 2009 12:58:01 | I'm still getting a lot of "this file is broken and could not be repaired" errors. I got the Shadar-Kai article and the Masters of the Planes article to work eventually, but I want to run the Madness Arc, and I can't make them open. Clearing cookies, using different browsers, updating Adobe, restarting my computer, changing internet connections, and changing operating systems are all still failing. Does anyone else have any idea what's going on, or should I contact someone official? |

I got the Shadar-Kai article and the Masters of the Planes article to work eventually, but I want to run the Madness Arc, and I can't make them open. Happened to me with an article recently - uh...the one about the Adroit Explorer paragon path. Adobe would crash and burn. I was able to open it with Foxit Reader. My guess is that there's some source of, basically, noise on the line that's corrupting the download somehow. If that's the case, I don't know that there's anything you or WotC can do. I recommend downloading Foxit Reader and seeing if that will open a download (make sure to download the PDF, rather than trying to open it in a browser). |
| #5dreadarchonFeb 18, 2009 16:13:13 | (make sure to download the PDF, rather than trying to open it in a browser) Ooh, thanks for the reminder-- The above suggestion works well for me when I have trouble with PDF's in general. However, since WotC obfuscates the path to the PDF with a redirection thingy, I can't find a way to download the PDF--it's browser-only. Does anyone more competent than me know of a way to download the PDF instead of opening it? |
| #6PaulonFeb 18, 2009 16:34:09 | I'm not a subscriber, but I had trouble when they first went to the redirect system during the free period. On the recommendation of people here I did the following: If you're using Firefox, select Options from the Tools menu, then the Applications tab. In there select all the Adobe/PDF listings and change them to Save File. When you next use a link to a PDF or one tries to open, you should get the Save File dialogue instead of having it just open. I don't know how to do the same with other browsers though, but logically the process should be fairly similar. |

| #8mycroftbFeb 19, 2009 21:58:49 | Ooh, thanks for the reminder-- In Firefox, I just disabled the Adobe Acrobat plugin. It prevents documents from loading in the browser, and instead prompts you to open or save the file just like a regular download. (I also do this with quicktime, windows media player, and others so that direct linking to an mp3 or video file will prompt me to save locally, instead of trying to stream it.) To disable plugins (which is *totally* reversible in case you change your mind) in Firefox: * Click Tools, then Add-Ons * Click the Plugins button/tab thingy on the right, looks like a lego brick * Click on the plugin to highlight it, and then click Disable (or Enable to undo) beside it * Just close the window when you're done * You may need to restart Firefox for changes to take effect To disable plugins in IE7 (also reversible): * Click Tools, then hover overManage Add-Ons, then Enable or Disable Add-Ons * Click on the plugin name to highlight it, and then click the Enable or Disable radio button at the bottom * Click OK to save changes * You may need to restart IE for changes to take effect I didn't see a way to configure plugins for Chrome or IE6, and I don't have Opera, IE8, Safari, Konquerer, SeaMonkey, or other browsers to try. I hope that helps. |
