| #1CorrinAvatanAug 06, 2011 18:33:06 | I just wanted to report that I created a Warforged level 1 fighter, and it is treating my light shield as if I am not proficient, listing it in red text. |
| #2JaraxalAug 09, 2011 9:31:57 | I noticed the same thing with a Fighter (Knight). |
| #3jnloAug 09, 2011 10:09:41 | Same issue here. And I don't think this is just a cosmetic issue... my defenses don't change at all when I equip and unequip the shield, so I think the stats are not taking the shield into consideration either. |
| #4RedSiegfriedAug 09, 2011 20:08:35 | You may have read one of my other threads, but for what it's worth this is happening to me too only the math works out normally. What I was finding was that any shield that goes in the off-hand slot (as opposed to some of the Essentials shield listings that go in the Arms slot) shows up in red everywhere in the CB, but when you equip it it gives you the correct bonuses. If you look at the Shield of Deflection, however, the object that just gives you stuff and not the AC or REF bonus, that works fine and goes in the Arms slot. But to get a shield bonus to AC and REF you then have to equip a mundane shield in your off hand slot and that's where you can choose whether it's a heavy or light shield. That works out fine because the Shield of Deflection doesn't weigh anything and doesn't indicate if it's heavy or light so it's like a placeholder object. But yeah, the off-hand slot shields always show in red for me, even in search lists, but they always give me the right bonus. So JNLO, check to see if you have a mundane sheild in your off-hand slot. Shields with properties or powers are supposed to be Arm slot items, but at some point they appear to have become a placeholder magic item slot item and to get the actual shield bonus to AC and REF I think you need to equip a mundane shield in your off hand slot. I'm not sure if that's the way it's supposed to work by design or not because I never read any notes on it from WoTC, but IMO it's actually a good way to make shields take up the Arms slot and yet still indicate that you are holding something in your off hand. What's really weird is I have an older character that has a Silver Shield Heavy Shield. That shows up in red and only equips in the off-hand slot item, but other than being red it works normally. That tells me that at some point, maybe post-Essentials, they changed how some shields work so that they only equip in the Arms slot, but older objects will only equip in the off-hand slot. The redness issue does not appear to have been fixed after today's update, however. But for me it IS purely cosmetic if you use the method I described. |
| #5jnloAug 09, 2011 22:15:41 | Hi Red Siegfried, Thanks for your post! The particular shield I am trying to equip (Crowd Killer Shield) only shows up under the offhand slot. The CB still allows me to equip gloves in my arm slot and the shield shows red whether I do that or not. I don't think it is cosmetic in my case since if I completely remove the shield from my inventory my defenses don't change at all. Hmmmm... |
| #6RedSiegfriedAug 09, 2011 22:59:47 | Hi Red Siegfried, That's weird. I can only pull up a crowd killer shield as an Arms slot item and only equip it in the Arms slot. I can't find one that goes in the off-hand slot. I dunno, maybe delete your shield and add a new one and see if it works differently then? Officially, magic shields should take up the Arms slot anyway, so if you have something else that goes there you should only be able to equip one at a time - most common choice is between a shield and bracers. And I don't know of any gloves that go in the Arms slot - only the Hands slot. |
| #7jnloAug 10, 2011 15:44:25 | Not sure what was up with the Crowd Killer Shield, but having switched to a different shield I am now getting the purely cosmetic issue described so well by RedSiegfried. The magic shield can be equipped in the arm slot. I then have to equip a heavy shield in the off-hand slot and even though it still shows up in red, the stats are correct. Thanks RedSiegfried! |
