As we mentioned several times, that "100 character mark" refers to the length of the character name, not to the number of character slots you have. Unfortunately different things have the same name

Thanks for the update. Finally Inherent Bonuses ! Any news on the Core 4E Character Sheet ? Its still in process right ?

Also,

Today's D&D Insider update addresses several bugs and stability issues, and comes with some much anticipated feature updates. You can find a more detailed list of bugs addressed here.

Character Builder

  • Multiweapon selection for power cards

I fail to see where this happens ? When right-clicking on a Power Card's Character Sheet, it still read:  Silverlight and i cannot do a selection myself like the CBC was.

EDITED Nevermind i found it.

I believe this option actually is presented in the Get Equipment/Inventory section... to the right of your weapons should now be a check box to indicate whether or not you would like that particular weapon to appear on the power card.

It doesn't appear so.  There should be (but isn't) a selectable option on the class screen for it.  I'd report it as a bug.

Thanks for the update WOTC more stuff getting fixed is good !

My biggest bugbear though is still not right. A4 printing still cuts off the right hand side of the sheet. Before it even prints it changes the image on the screen and the right had side completely disappears.

Yeah, in the broadcast they mention that they are planning to fix this in the next update.  In the mean time, changing the paper size to Letter has worked for me.

I really hope that in feature updates they can insert such an option for the Weapons Tab to choose which hand the weapon/ implement goes to.

So, at least another month before items from the monster vault adventure get added in, and likely have to input themselves at that...this is starting to get annoying.

The issues that I continue to see:

1.  No "Original" / PHB1 character sheet available.  Please bring this back.  I loved it;
2.  Power Swap feats.  While they do show up correctly in the character builder, they do not transfer to the printed character sheet (ex: I trade out Resurgent Smite for Come and Get it, Resurtgent Smite still shows on my character sheet);
3.   Cavaliers with the "Call Celestial Steed" power who use an improved steed feat still only show the Celestial Warhorse on thier character sheet, not whatever steed they upgraded to.  It's important to note that the stats on these upgrades also aren't in the compendium or in the character builder, so the only way to have those stats available is by printing up a copy of the Dragon article they appeared in;
 4.  Warforged trained in Superior Crossbows weilding a Superior Crossbow Armbow are still having that crossbow treated as a 2H weapon, instead of as a 1H weapon per the property of the Armbow.  Unsure if this is for all 2H Crossbows, or just Superior Crossbows;
 5.  A non-essentials paladin can't retrain a utility power to get the 4th level Cavalier utility "Summon Steed".  Unsure if this is endemic to retraining from non-Essentials to Essentials or just isolated to this instance.

No, they pulled a switcheroo on us -- apparently the new assassin build does not become official (or available in the Character Builder) until Heroes of Shadow is published next month.

A switcheroo would imply that something was put in it's place.  More like the rug being pulled out from under us.

And number 5 never should have been available to non-Essentials Paladins. The power was meant to be taken in place of a Cavalier class feature, so the non-Essentials Paladin can't give up Pace of the Virtuous Charger to take it. Also, if you look at the utility now, it's an un-leveled utility so the Paladin definitely can't retrain another utility to take it.

Either I'm confused, or there doesn't appear to be any way to equip a mount with barding. I have a Cavalier with a mount. Whenever I equip the barding, it unequips my plate armor and lowers my armor class. Is this a bug, or is there a step I'm missing?

I have an issue:

The new Essentials books do away with masterwork armor in favor of a rising AC for armors of higher levels. However, the new inherent bonus option does not factor in the rising AC for the enhancement bonus, which I assumed it would. This is particularly problematic because the enhancement-less masterwork armors are not included in the new builder.

However, I would not like to see the enhancement-less masterwork armors put back in. What I would like to see is the armor bonus of high level characters using the standard enhancement rules go up like magic armors now do.

Thank you!

Whatever, there are better alternatives to this online character builder.

Really?  I know of nothing that is legal, does all the math, and has current rules.

Mind you, I still am using the old CB becasue it is still superior even without the fully-current rules.  But that's not a very good solution given the lack of currency for the rules.

BTW:  I want the weapon displays for powers fixed - a monk has no way to supress showing ki focus (if equipped) or a second weapon (if equipped) for powers.  It simply won't let you.   All I want to see is my Ki Club.

My powers really should only show the Ki Club and the dagger I carry for ranged basic atacks.  All the rest is just clutter and I can't suppress it like I could in the old builder.  ...sigh...

Well there is an arguement that says it does. It provides an essentials character sheet and a sheet that WOTC clearly believes is a 4ed character sheet. My group uses both with no problems so i really dont see what the issue is here.

In your opinion. There are a lot of people on the forums who are using it with no major problems. It is certainly no worse than the old builder and is starting now to move to being better.

I guess the old quote "you can please some of the people all of the time and all of the people some of the time but you can't please all the people all of the time" holds true with the character builder.

Out of curiosity, is anyone else having a problem unchecking the "show on power cards" checkbox for an equipped off-hand item? I click, it goes away, browser briefly pauses while the file is sent to the server, and then I find it freshly checked as thought nothing has changed.

Have they put up the new assassin yet on the character builder?  That was from #394, and should have been up last month.  Unless I'm just missing it somewhere?

It'll be up the month after Heroes of Shadow.

Actually next month we're syncing up the book release with the DDI release, so you'll get Heroes of Shadow content in the Character Builder on April 19th.

I disagree. The article still has the mount as a paladin level 4 utility. The fact that it doesn't say that in the character builder is part of the problem. The warlock level 4 utility is selectable by other warlocks (at least it was before the update, I don't know about now). If the old paladin is not meant to have that mount, they need to change it in the article not the charactre builder. The character builder is not a source of rule validation.

Annoying, ain't it?

You cannot "uncheck" a Ki Focus that is equipped either.

The old way was far superior - I hope they can figure out a way to get the equivalent functionality.

The issues that I continue to see:

1.  No "Original" / PHB1 character sheet available.  Please bring this back.  I loved it;
2.  Power Swap feats.  While they do show up correctly in the character builder, they do not transfer to the printed character sheet (ex: I trade out Resurgent Smite for Come and Get it, Resurtgent Smite still shows on my character sheet);
3.   Cavaliers with the "Call Celestial Steed" power who use an improved steed feat still only show the Celestial Warhorse on thier character sheet, not whatever steed they upgraded to.  It's important to note that the stats on these upgrades also aren't in the compendium or in the character builder, so the only way to have those stats available is by printing up a copy of the Dragon article they appeared in;
 4.  Warforged trained in Superior Crossbows weilding a Superior Crossbow Armbow are still having that crossbow treated as a 2H weapon, instead of as a 1H weapon per the property of the Armbow.  Unsure if this is for all 2H Crossbows, or just Superior Crossbows;
 5.  A non-essentials paladin can't retrain a utility power to get the 4th level Cavalier utility "Summon Steed".  Unsure if this is endemic to retraining from non-Essentials to Essentials or just isolated to this instance.

Number 3 definitely works for me. I just made a new Cavalier and selected the feature and feat at level 4 and my battle tiger shows up on my sheet.

Didn't work for the Silver Dragon.

Also tried with a lower-level cavalier who has the tiger, and that one didn't work either...

Mine seems to be working for everything but the Silver Dragon. I made a 21st level character who took all the steed feats (the page only showed the Warhorse, the Battle Tiger, and the top few lines of the Behemoth, so I think there's a bug there too, but the next one always moved up after I  deselected the feat that was showing the mount on the page) and they all appeared except for the stats on the Silver Dragon.

I think you meant to quote me, and I checked the article and you are right that it does list the utility as a Paladin Utility 4. However, I believe that it was meant to be a Cavalier only power since it requires that you give up a Cavalier class feature to be able to take it. Therefore I think that the article is the one that's wrong and that the character builder isn't being buggy here.

I don't think you have to retrain at all. When I was testing I didn't retrain, I selected the Battle Tiger feat at 4, the Behemoth and Pegasus at 11 and 12 respectively, and the Silver Dragon at 21. It did show the Warhorse, Battle Tiger and a bit of the Behemoth but then the page was cut off so the powers page could start. Then I took away the Battle Tiger feat and gave the character Improved Initiative, and the page showed the Warhorse, the Behemoth, and a bit of the Pegasus.

Woops! I did mean to quote you. I read that article to mean that the alternate feature gives you that power. This is the same for the Hexblade. They get the unseen servant as a class feature, but PHB warlocks can take it as a 4th level utility. If they do mean for it to be Cavaliers only (God! I hope not), then they really need to make that more clear.

Well in this case the Lesser Planar Ally power isn't given "instead of" another class feature of the Hexblade, that's why I think that other Warlocks can take it. In the case of the Paladin, it's instead of, and that's why I think it was intended for Cavaliers to only be able to take. Wizards definitely needs to let us know what their take on this is, and they should update the article if the article is at fault.

Yes.  Though there's really little reason for them to have changed it.  Nothing was wrong with the old version.

Not that there is anything wrong with the new one either.  IMO, the new one is more interesting, but it could of just been a new spell.

Yes, and don't use the old damage expression with the auto-hit rule.  Check the new entry in the compendium.  It does 2+Int mod at first level and benefits from your implements enhancement bonus, but nothing else (weapon foucs, dragon shards, anything really) because it does not have a "damage roll".

There are 1 or 2 things that will work on it.

But yea, the vast majority of things either increase "damage rolls", or happen "on a hit".

Sigh. Selectable at the Weapon (excluding Unarmed!) level NOT per Power Card [as Offline CB].

On a goof I decided to create a 30th level character always having the builder pick things for me so that I could see what kind of result it would come up with. It created a 30th level human warden, but it won't load the character sheet though. I hit the character sheet button, it shows me the top of the sheet like it's been loaded, but everything's locked up and if I tab away the window goes white. I have to reload the builder to be able to do anything again, but all my other characters load fine.

The only other bug is when I try to give my 15th level druid his free rituals - I'll hit the market place button, hit the bonus items button, and then I'm shown a list of all the rituals, alchemical formulas, and martial practices only it's not scrollable and I can't select anything. It doesn't lock up, so I can switch to other sections in the market place and back to the character creation stuff. I did create the character as starting at 15th level. I have no idea if that affects this or not, but it's always pertinent to throw in that kind of information.

Anybody else running into stuff like this?

No, you don't.  It's sensible, because it's fairly pointless eating feat slots with mounts you're not using, but nowhere in the article does it even suggest retraining the feats, let alone mandate it.  You could leave yourself options by taking them all, if you wanted to.  In a forest?  Tiger.  Facing a lot of groundpounding enemies?  Behemoth.  Etc.

I'm aware of that. I tried that, and there were no mundane items showing up when I tried it last night. The first item in each category was a +1. I tried creating several characters and buying equipment, and it was that way each time. I even chose the Build A Quick Essentials Character and let it choose everything for me. It equipped the character with mundane items, but when I went back to the marketplace they weren't available to purchase. The only thing I can figure is something didn't load right when I was using it last night because it's working correctly now.

Can anyone confirm whether non-essentials paladins can take Summon Steed and the steed feats, officially as a rule or in the online builder itself?

thanks.

I am pretty sure the addition of a level to the power in the Dragon magazine was a mistake and that the compendium version is correct. If you read the article you have to give up a class power of the Cavalier to even gain the power.

It has been reported for almost 3 months now and nothing has been said or changed so I am pretty sure that I am correct in saying that the intent was not for the power to be a leveled utility power.

To offer the converse view, by the rules as written the O-Paladin CAN take Call Celestial Steed in any utility slot after level 6, because the power has a level in the compiled Dragon 393, which is the official rules source.  Currently, absent any errata, the CB and Compendium list this power incorrectly.

As Mith says, it's been reported and not fixed since the release of D393 on the digital tools - but then, so have many, many other bugs and errors, so that's not exactly a reliable metric.

Mith: if the power wasn't intended to be accessible to O-Paladins, why was the prerequisite of 'Cavalier' removed between the initial article and the final compilation?  That, even with the Paladin level on the power, would have effectively restricted it only to Cavaliers, but they took it out.  Why, if not to make it accessible to O-Paladins?
#74

thespaceinvader

Mar 24, 2011 12:56:47
Yes, that is correct.

And yes, if they wanted to limit it to only the Cavalier, it would have been very easy - just leave the prereqs as they were in the preview.  Or remove the level.

    Firstly, this is still broken.  Secondly, why can't you guys test this yourself?  It's fairly easy, just set your regional settings to UK and your printer defautls to A4 then try printing, it will chop off the right edge.
