| #1wylkynApr 06, 2010 22:08:04 | I just downloaded the update for the PHB3 stuff (I am a subscriber). I was looking at old characters, and I tried to load a Teifling Psion that I had created before the download, but it said that it couldn't load the character, and took it off my list. So I decided to create a new character. I chose a Runepriest, and a minotaur. I thought it a little strange that it held onto the name and portrait of a previous character, but I didn't think anything of it. But then, when I got to selecting feats, it was showing me racial feats for the minotaur and the teifling as valid choices. The only feat listed under class feats was for a Psion. I'm assuming this was related to the old character that wouldn't load? I don't know. Just thought you should know about it. |
| #2dieffenbachjApr 06, 2010 22:12:05 | Yeah my group's psion's file didn't load either; I just remade it. Probably just the move from half-build psion to fully built one made the computer cry somehow (there were many bugs with saving psionics in general in the character builder; perhaps fixing them broke the saved files) |
| #3PolarisApr 06, 2010 22:20:56 | The new update is full of bugs. I discovered two on my first load: 1. Focused Expertise is no longer recognized as an official feat yet to my knowledge there has been nothing published by Wotc that says this (yes they are trying to replace it with Versatile Expertise but to my knowledge Focused Expertise is still a legal feat but Char Build doesn't recongize it as such any more). 2. When I first reloaded my Chaladin|Starlock, it insisted that I had a houseruled item, a force weapon +3 (Longsword). Yet this weapon remains perfectly legal and has not changed. I had to delete the weapon and readd it. Once I did, the character then read as legal and complete. -Polaris Edit PS: In addition, one of my characters is using a horned helm (heroic). Instead of correctly noting that an additional d6 of damage should be added to charge attacks (for those powers that can be used when charging), it instead ignores this item for all powers EXCEPT melee basic attacks...and it automatically adds a d6 damage to those attacks whether charging or not with no note. |
| #4T-MackApr 06, 2010 23:00:30 | Focused is gone. Nothing will be written about it, and it will likely never be mentioned again. |
| #5dieffenbachjApr 06, 2010 23:37:09 | Focused is gone. Nothing will be written about it, and it will likely never be mentioned again. Big Lipped Alligator Feat! |
| #6mikenekopiApr 07, 2010 0:08:39 | 1. This is not a bug. Focused Expertise was never printed in any official context. It was part of the original PHB3 monk playtest article, and it did not make the final cut for publishing (obviously, it evolved into Versatile Expertise). |
| #7Asmo74Apr 07, 2010 0:12:08 | The Cognizance Crystal's are also listed with the incorrect prices. |
| #8PolarisApr 07, 2010 0:55:54 | 1. It was my understanding that anything ever published in Dragon automatically became "official" hence my comment about Focused Expertise. That leads to yet another bug: When I pick Versatile Expertise for my Chaladin|Starlock, I can not select heavy blade for both the weapon side of the feat and the implement side of the feat even though the wording of the feat indicates that I should be able to. Instead, if I pick "heavy blade" for one side of the expertise, the bonus is applied to ALL uses of my heavy blade be it a weapon or implement power....and that means I effectively get TWO feats for the price of one (since the other side can also be done the same way but for another implement or weapon or weapliment). -Polaris |
| #9AcryliumApr 07, 2010 2:01:17 | This should be no problem, because you simply can ignore the second choice of Versatile Expertise if your weapon is coeval your implement. This way you can handle it as the former Focused Expertise. Until next month this issue should be fixed I think. |
| #10dowanrodenApr 07, 2010 2:11:14 | There's also the matter of Versatile Expertise causing the character builder to be unable to read a saved Epic level character. I'm not entirely sure if it's Epic level or just by virtue of picking the feat but I have recreated the bug three different times using my build in this post. It's actually kind of aggravating. community.wizards.com/go/thread/view/758... |
| #11erleniApr 07, 2010 6:15:40 | I found another one. Demanding Talent (the MC feat for Battlemind) multiclasses you into a psion. The prerequisites are ok (Con 13) but the class is not. |
| #12zgroseApr 07, 2010 7:47:24 |
That would mean all 3 versions of the Monk are official and that's clearly not right. |
| #13rachwededApr 07, 2010 7:51:12 | i can't seem to retrain my daily either, it orginally came up as houseruled so i deselected the feat and re-chose it but now i can't swap my ranger daily for a barbarian daily and i had previously. |
| #14PolarisApr 07, 2010 10:39:29 |
Actually no. It would mean that each version of the Monk was official until the next version was published. However there was no next version of Focused Expertise published. However, I believe everyone when they say that Versatile Expertise replaces Focus Expertise. Now they have to fix Versatile Expertise in CB. -Polaris |
| #15erleniApr 07, 2010 15:28:03 | Another issue, for the Eternal Seeker this time: it seems impossible to take an augmentable at-will instead of an encounter (wanted to take Brutal Barrage to substitute an assassin encounter, but it simply doesn't show on the list). |
| #16lcjunkieApr 07, 2010 20:20:46 | I already submitted the bug, but Runepriests are not getting their class bonus of +2 to Will Defense. I checked all my other characters (including newly created psion and seeker) and there does not seem to be any problem with them, but only with Runepriests. |
| #17Kaviyd3Apr 08, 2010 14:27:06 | Another issue, for the Eternal Seeker this time: it seems impossible to take an augmentable at-will instead of an encounter (wanted to take Brutal Barrage to substitute an assassin encounter, but it simply doesn't show on the list). I am not sure that this is a bug -- I don't think the original text of that epic destiny lets you acquire new at-will powers. What does it do if your original class has Psionic Augmentation? I will have to check that out when I get the chance. Also, paragon hybrids that combine two classes with Psionic Augmentation can never be complete and legal. The builder prompts you to select a 7th level or lower encounter power, but of course there are no such powers to be had. Finally, I noticed a bug in regard to the Unarmored Agility feat for the rare character who is proficient with shields but not armor. Unlike the class features that grant AC bonuses to characters in no armor or cloth armor, the Unarmored Agility feat makes no mention of shields and thus should not be negated when a character is carrying a shield -- but in the current implementation, it is. |
| #18CailteApr 08, 2010 21:04:55 | The Brawler Fighter is still buggy. The CB doesn't recognise Unarmed as a second weapon and so the attack and damage bonuses for powers that require two weapons are not showing despite being able to make Unarmed attacks just fine with a Brawler. Seekers lost Hand Axes and Throwing Hammers as weapons they are profficient in. |
| #19dowanrodenApr 09, 2010 11:01:44 | There's also the matter of Versatile Expertise causing the character builder to be unable to read a saved Epic level character. I'm not entirely sure if it's Epic level or just by virtue of picking the feat but I have recreated the bug three different times using my build in this post. It's actually kind of aggravating. I've been having to remove a shoe from my mouth over several threads... it's neither Versatile Expertise nor Eternal Seeker that's making my save files unreadable. It's Paragon Multiclassing. I've taken the listed build above to just level 20 and had it turn unreadable, even with Versatile Expertise unselected, yet it's perfectly readable at level 9. This is terrible given that paragon multiclassing isn't even remotely new. |
| #20FredApr 10, 2010 15:06:12 | I have run into an unusual error. My 11th level rogue has a Magic Dagger +3 and a Lighting Dagger +1 (his first magic weapon and useful minion killer). On every attack power the attack bonus and damage are correct for Magic Dagger. but for the Lightning Dagger they include an extra +1 (i.e. Magic Dagger +3: +18 attack, 1d4+12 damage: Lightning Dagger +1: +17 attack, 1d4+11 damage). Also his Darkfire Attack bonus in CB is +17 instead of the +15 it should be. While writing this I played around in CB and the problems are both fixed. I have the printed sheets so I know I am not making this up. Also the Character Sheet is blurry. The other pages are crisp, just the first page (I have reduced the standard Character Sheet 2 pages to 1 page.) |
| #21Kaviyd3Apr 11, 2010 17:22:39 |
I think I see how Versatile Expertise is related to this though -- it seems to occur when you take a previously existing character with paragon multiclassing and edit it in any way, with the most common edit being the replacement of the obsolete Focused Expertise feat with Versatile Expertise. I did that with a long established character and he promptly disappeared from the character load display after I saved him. I also tried building an 11th level PMC character from scratch and saw it happen again. Bottom line -- the Character Builder will now pretend it can't see any PMC character file. |
| #22admcewenApr 12, 2010 7:22:05 | I'm finding that my accurate rod's bonus is not being added to the attack bonus for powers. |
| #23daladinnApr 12, 2010 17:09:42 | thats pretty funny about the accurate wand ... my +4 ashen wand (+1 to hit and +3 damage at paragon) which i am using duel implement spellcasting is showing up as +1 to hit ashen wand +1 to hit ashen wand +6 to damage ashen wand +6 to damage ashen wand no matter how i try i cant make the math work right |
| #24battles14Apr 13, 2010 14:20:06 | I've found a problem with Versatile Expertise. The CB won't let me choose the same weapon / implement group for both parts of the feat. So for my Swordmage, I'd want to take Versatile Expertise (heavy blades / heavy blades), but once I select it once it's removed from the other list. |
| #25Kaviyd3Apr 13, 2010 23:49:46 | I've found a problem with Versatile Expertise. The CB won't let me choose the same weapon / implement group for both parts of the feat. You don't need to select Heavy Blades twice -- that first selection gives you an attack bonus with all heavy blades whether they are used as weapons or implements. That leaves you one other choice, which you will most likely want to take for Light Blades if you are a pure Swordmage. From the discussions I have seen elsewhere, that seems to be the intended interpretation and application. So it's not a bug -- it's a feature! |
| #26battles14Apr 14, 2010 10:24:30 | I've found a problem with Versatile Expertise. The CB won't let me choose the same weapon / implement group for both parts of the feat. This might not be the place, but (a) there is still debate regarding the "intended interpretation," and (b) that interpretation is incorrect. The feat requires you to pick a "weapon group" and an "implement." It then gives you a +1 feat bonus when using a weapon of the chosen group. PHB3 then goes on to say that when you're using a weapon as an implement, you do not use the weapon's "non-magical weapon properties with your implement powers." A feat bonus is a non-magical weapon property, so you would have to choose the same weapon (staffs, heavy & light blades) as both the weapon group and the implement to get a bonus to all your powers. Because CB does not allow this, it is indeed a bug. |
| #27dowanrodenApr 14, 2010 13:04:07 | I have to agree Battles on this. RAW and RAI seem to indicate that the bonuses are different, suggesting the feat is just Weapon Expertise and Implement Expertise married in the church of Focused Expertise (sounds weird, I know). You only get the Weapon selection for Weapon powers and the Implement for Implement powers, the wording of the feat doesn't seem to do both for both. That said, it should be allowable to pick the same group for both, yet the builder seems confused on this. If I try to read the feat the other way then I get confused because my mind just can't wrap around the idea based on the feat's wording. Not quite a circle-jerk, but it's close. |
| #28azrealjgApr 14, 2010 14:47:49 | I found one with the new Armored Warlord feat. Armored Warlord which provides scale proficiency and a healing surge, is not qualifying for Scale Armor Specialization (requires Scale proficiency). |
| #29lordbgApr 14, 2010 21:02:59 | thats pretty funny about the accurate wand ... I did a lvl 16 Shardmind telepath psion and gave him 2 crystal orbs, +4 crystal orb of mental dominion and a +1 crystal orb of Nimble thoughts. with both equiped, my at-will will do +24 DMG. If I take away my +1 crystal orb from my off-hand, by DMG bonus from my at-will falls to +15. Both numbers seem wrong to me : +6 INT + 3 Feat (Psychic focus) + 4 ENH +3 Crystal orb = +16 The builder will give me only +2 from the feat, and it shoudl be +3 at lvl 11 Theres seem to be a bug with having 2 superior implements AND with the Psychic focus feat |
| #30drowbattlemindApr 15, 2010 12:45:25 | Anybody else having THIS problem I found? Since I post here as Drow Battlemind and my fave 3.5 PC was a Drow Psychic Warrior, I decided to reconstruct him as a Drow Battlemind. Now, back in 3.5, he took advantage of the Expanded Knowledge feat to grab some Kineticist (Psion) powers, so I decided to MC him into Psion and Paragon multiclass, right? So, following the instructions on p. 194 of PHB 3, I took Disciplined Talent, Psionic Complement, Acolyte Power & Adept Power. So far, so good. Right? Wrong. After choosing Paragon Multiclassing at 11th level, instead of granting me 2 power points and asking me to take one Psion at-will, it DEMANDS i take TWO (2) at-wills (not lighting up the "NEXT" button until I do), then promptly informs me that I am now a House-ruled character for taking two powers. ???????? |
| #31Kaviyd3Apr 15, 2010 13:49:26 | Anybody else having THIS problem I found? You may be in for worse news -- I will bet that after you saved that character and exited the program, that character will not even appear on your list of characters to load. There appears to be a problem with retrieving PMC characters created or updated with the current version of the Character Builder. |
| #32RavenmancerApr 15, 2010 13:56:16 | This might not be the place, but (a) there is still debate regarding the "intended interpretation," and (b) that interpretation is incorrect. Because CB does not allow this, it is indeed a bug. A feat bonus is not a "non-magical weapon property". A feat bonus is not a property of the weapon at all. If anything it is a property of the character wielding the weapon. |
| #33zgroseApr 15, 2010 14:23:25 | Non-magical weapon properties are the properties like High crit, Defensive and Reach. I've been wondering if Accurate, Deadly, etc are the equivalent non-magical properties for implements myself.... |
| #34RavenmancerApr 15, 2010 14:31:18 | I've been wondering if Accurate, Deadly, etc are the equivalent non-magical properties for implements myself.... Exactly. Even says so in the rules for them right on page 195. "A superior implement's properties apply only to attacks made with the implement. They affect only implement powers, even if an implement can be used to make weapon attacks." |
| #35drowbattlemindApr 15, 2010 14:47:58 | Anybody else having THIS problem I found? I was smart and saved at 10th level, right before choosing to level up to Paragon Multiclassing. So far, no problems there, I can still load him up. |
| #36JabbaVonHuttApr 16, 2010 10:34:27 | CB doesn't have an area when you create a hybrid monk to select which defense to apply the "+1 to any" class feature. |
| #37sabrecatApr 17, 2010 12:50:30 | Astral Symbols don't appear to give their damage bonus to radiant powers. Deathbone Rods do just fine for necrotic... |
| #38AstromathApr 17, 2010 16:59:57 | Anybody else having THIS problem I found? This may be a inconvenient workaround, but it should work for retrieving PMC characters that do not show up in the CB listing. Go directly to where the folder where the character is saved. The name should show up. Just double click on the name and choose CB as the application to open files of that extention type. |
| #39nomApr 18, 2010 4:57:13 | Mage's weapon's no longer grant their proficiency bonus. They used to count as proficient. Post-update, they don't. |
| #40carl_brisgamerApr 20, 2010 7:25:27 | I have identified an issue with characters equipped with Vanguard weapons - the CB appears to show the +1d8 charging damage on every weapon attack power, whether they can be used with a charge or not. It this just me or have other users observed this anomally? Cheers Carl. |
| #41sabrecatApr 20, 2010 7:48:52 | I have identified an issue with characters equipped with Vanguard weapons - the CB appears to show the +1d8 charging damage on every weapon attack power, whether they can be used with a charge or not. Oof. I hadn't noticed that with Vanguard yet, but I did notice it with Challenge-Seeking. +2d6 to every attack, instead of a conditional +2d6 vs. as-yet-undamaged monsters. ^.^; |
| #42cormicApr 20, 2010 22:36:55 | Problem with Dwarven Weapon Training. Take DWT as an early feat with any class and able to use simple Military weapons. Retrain out of DWT later on and loose proficiency with all Axes and Hammers even if your class can wield them normally. |
| #43erleniApr 23, 2010 4:24:01 | Another issue, for the Eternal Seeker this time: it seems impossible to take an augmentable at-will instead of an encounter (wanted to take Brutal Barrage to substitute an assassin encounter, but it simply doesn't show on the list). I agree, but I expected you could take the powers as encounters, more or less like the powerswap feat does. Probably they'll need to update the Eternal Seeker too. |
| #44lawryNov 10, 2010 5:32:50 | I created an Archer Warlord. When I clicked on the Chainmail Proficency, it was not selected, and the selection jumped to the first feat. I was able to select it as a 2nd level feat however. To make matters worse, it was stil red in the Shop, and imposed a -2 penalty to my attacks. As a workaround I deselected Archer Warlord and took the Longbow Proficency. And keep the basic attack values in mind. Edit: If I chose Combat leader instead of Battlefront leader, I can take the Chainmail at first level, but it is still red in the Shop |
